@@LeiaInc Damn, we are getting a demo of the device here in Japan in a couple of hours, and I was hoping to try our 180 VR shots. So it won't work, then.... I hope this is coming soon! We want to load 180 VR stills and videos and play them locally on the device without a Net connection. If it works we'll introduce to museums that use our 3D models and VR stuff :)

VR180 works. As I showed in the video. VR180 video just add VR tag at the end (close to the end of the video for instruction). For VR180 photo, I have the Nightly built LeiaPlayer - that should be a link in the forum you can download. As you see in this video, it also work great with crazy high quality. Highly recommend you try it when you have your LumePad2. All instruction on how is already covered in this video :)

Wow, we just got a long demo of the device here in Japan. We do high-end 3D models (cultural heritage stuff, like ceramics etc.), and our models looked stunning. I also had them play an SBS 180 video shot on my little Insta EVO, and it looked great too. It's an interview with a fitter, a wood craftman who shows his things close up to the camera, at just the right distance. It looked really good! This can be a great complement to VR headsets, which we need to have people experience spaces (temples etc.). It only takes seconds to pull out the device and show of models without glasses. We didn't like the 3D movies much, though, especially the 2D to 3D converted ones. Anyway, great potential, including institutional buyers, such as museums. They said they were working with the National Museum to capture mummies in Egypt and Morocco at the moment, for example :)

The "Too much depth" feature of the Lume Pad 2 is great! It's a good idea to use it as a warning when using other stereo/VR 180 recording equipment. However, the lens separation on the devices are not the same. The lens centers on the Canon VR lens is wider (more hyper) than on the Lume Pad 2, so the Lume Pad 2 will indicate that you are not too close, but you are too close for the Canon lens. Also, users can use StereoPhoto Maker to add the suffixes to file names. That makes it easier to bring your content into the Lume Pad 2. Also, it was nice bumping into you at Burning Man. 😀

Hi Hugh - I have no luck viewing 360 3D photos taken with my Insta360 Pro2 using the suggested naming conventions you offered... or any other naming. Have you been able to successfully view a 360-3D photo? My videos display correctly, but can't get the viewer to display 360-3D, top/bottom. Also, is there any way to scroll around the video using your finger? instead of having to move the device around?

I have just got a Lume Pad 2 and totally agree you should be able to save conversions after they are done once. I’d also be interested if Leia can extract the depth information from a Canon with DPAF RAW files to create a depth map, similar to how it does for iPhone

I think they are working on extract depth map on all camera - not sure raw fisheye but standard VR180 for all cameras should be supported. They also told me the saving feature is coming. It is a pain to convert it over and over again lol.

We need Ai assisted 3D overlay for general ui and all apps. Id love to play any game with 3D even when it wasnt meant for 3D. Ive already bought one today just having my fingers crossed that they achieve this. I have a 3D monitor for gaming on my PC but i like the fact this is an all in one device. No comparison. The built in camera is stock android. It is good for concept photo but if you serious about 3D Photography - Canon is the best or any DSLR. It is like a cellphone camera vs DSLR kinda thing :)

Lume can not convert the live feed from Canon yet. So you only get dual fisheye lens.

Actually the phone is Red Hydrogen One. The company Leia Inc who designed the Lume Pad 2 is the same company behind the 3D Mobile phone. That was 4 years old tech now. This is their latest display for 3D with AI. The Wow is absolutely there and the quality (if watch locally with 8K 3D source file following this tutorial) is amazing. It is not without drawbacks, but great step ahead of the 3D game and it is one of the best display I have seen so far and def the lightest.

Thank you for this. I missed a discussion on quality, but found a bit in the comments. I will test in a couple of days, but already conclude it will NEVER replace headsets. It's a completely different product and experience. You can't be fully immersed in a rectangle :) BUT, if the quality has wow it will complement full VR as an intermediary step towards fully immersive experiences and will be a great sales tool, far better for showing off outr 3 models than a standard display. So I think your "forget VR glasses" is clickbate, Hugh, but I forgive you :)

Haha I do need "some" clickbait to get people attention at this crowded Internet space (also AI suggested this title to me - blame ChatGTP). But you are absolutely right - it is a different experience. This is more like looking tho a windows of another world and VR headset is fully immersive. VR headset is still the best immersion no media can replace that. But this is great for between READY for fully immersion and not want to immersive at all. Lots of people just has a thing and refuse to try VR headset - at least this let them experience "part of" the story and hopefully enough to convince them to put the headset on and full in. Selling the idea to viewers is half the battle for VR content creators and any tools to help achieve that is appreciated.

Every time I try to open an *already 3D* KZbin video with the Lume Pad 2's "LeiaTube" app, it says "converting 2D video to 3D using AI". So it somehow doesn't know if something is already in 3D! Am I doing something wrong?

I think that is just transcoding into Leia Tube playable format. This is a bug they will need to fix. I believe after the 1st time buffer, the second time should play smooth without that screen. At least the newest version of the app suppose to fix that bug.

It will say "Converting 2D video to 3D using AI" even if your video is SBS. This is because SBS is two 2D images next to each other, and it's being made into 3D. The first step of LeiaTube is identifying the format of the video, then playing it back.

One of the problems I can see already is the lack of memory storage and support for memory cards. This makes it difficult to play 3d files directly without transferring from a pc into the limited internal memory. You cant even play directly from a usb drive.

How much is the loss of resolution in 3D mode? I have the LumePad1 and in 3D mode the resolution is quartered for technical reasons. So 8K 3D in VGA resolution per eye is pointless. VR180 videos from the Canon R5 look terrible.

If you sideload the 8K file into the local memory - it is playing in native resolution. Like Meta Quest Pro. It does not use the quartered view tech anymore (that has be sunseted) and use AI eye-tracking instead.

I tried a Lumepad 1 the 3d was great but the resolution and color sucked due to the lightfield and had a strong screendoor effect. Having seen that their resolution specs haven't changed I'm not buying. Luma AI looks great too bad it's apple only, make an android version.

The 3D resolution has increased significantly in Lume Pad 2, it's over 2x the resolution of the original. The 2D resolution has stayed the same, but we've doubled the framerate to 120hz.

I spoke to the CEO a long time ago, the first one was 999$ then went down to $299, it was only what they call 4-View and it’s a display thing, but they also make $20k displays for light box for NFTs with 20k views, how many views on this one? I never met their CEO lol. But this is their latest display - not 4-view but AI-assist eyetracking. It is really high quality compare to the old one. So I think it is great for NFTs? I am not in the Web3 world so I don't really know.
