As someone who has been actively involved in stereoscopic photography for about 60 years, and has experience in just about every format since 5-perf and 7-perf I found this review refreshing Unlike other reviews, you didn't just go bananas about "Wow it's in 3D and like nothing you've ever seen". You went into details that we want to hear, without getting too technical that you needed to be an electronics genius to understand. In particular, I wanted to know why I would want to buy a LumePad 2, already having used a LumePad1. You explained that very well. I like the forward and reverse lenses, but mostly the fact that the inter-lens separation is increased. I've never been happy with recent stereo cameras that have ILS less than the average human interocular separation. Yes, for closeups sometimes a reduced separation is useful for hypostereos. If I could improve upon this tablet I would use three lenses, with the ability to switch between two or three interlens separations, as needed.

Wonderful, excellent video. Thank you! I have RED Hydrogen 1, and plan to buy Nubia 3D Pad II (Lume pad 3?) soon, and I only wish your video had millions of views & more people knew about it... Leia really should put this video on the front page of their site, because a lot of people (including myself) were thinking, that Lume tablets use lenticular films over standard screens, like some "3D screen protectors" available for iPad-s, so paying $1000 for the tablet while "in theory" the same can be achieved with $25 film & any regular tablet, probably scared off many buyers, who were simply unaware of the completely different technology here. You are great! Thank you. 🐉

Superb presentation and very educational your video. I can't wait to get mine tomorrow for the first time. Always a pleasure to watch your videos. PS: small question however, if I followed your reasoning correctly, this tablet is certainly the best you have to be able to not only view stereoscopic 3D but at the same time simulate images in holographic mode and not to mention artificial intelligence, correct ?!

Great video! I wonder if you could support two viewers as long as they didnt occupy the same view points. I guess to reliably do it you would need some way to dynamically change the angular divergence of views so you could ensure both viewers had a unique viewpoint by expanding and contracting angular divergence as necessary. This tech is already cool enough, we'll save two viewers for another generation ;)

Can the Lumapad also work from a HDMI ( SBS ) input stream into the device, or does it need to be an online stream as KZbin. #Leiaviewer

@@ANAVision I converted these movies from blue ray back when I had a 3D TV, this was before Lume 1 came out, and they worked fine on my 3D tablet (Proma) and phones (Rokit). That's because I could use the sview app for movies where you can change the aspect ratio to whatever you want in a simple drop down menu. When I got the Lume 1 I tested it with a few movies that weren't very wide so it was more acceptable. Then I got the Lume 2 and this time the movies were in a very wide format, and they looked terrible (squeezed horizontally). Same thing on Lume 1 it turns out. I was able to reformat the movie to fit correctly using OpenShot (free) but the file went from 2 gigs to 15, so I used Handbrake (free) and was able to get it back down to 2 gigs, but now the movie looks fuzzy. So to really fix this I have to re buy the blue rays, I sold mine with the 3D TV, and convert them the right way, OR, I could just go back to the Proma tablet and hope that someday they'll update the Leia Player to include a little drop down like sview. Early adopters like you and me are always going to have alot of videos laying around that they want to play. It's a shame because that's where positive word of mouth advertising begins. There's nothing like showing someone Guardians of the Galaxy on a 3D tablet to get them to want one, instead I have to explain why the picture looks so weird.

I just got one of these. The eye tracking on my device doesn't work very well. I've tried different lighting, viewing positions and distances and Iget lots of flickering in different parts of the image. There are several small sweet spots. IfI don't move my head or the tablet the edges will start to flicker for no reason and then stop. Its like its very easily losing the eye tracking and then gets it back. All the 3D apos. do this, some images are worse than others. No one on realy complains about this so I'm assuming theres something wrong with my device . Otherwise it would have been fine. Very disappointed.....

It's possible you're too close to the device which makes it hard for the camera to see your face. If that's not the case, then just reach out and get it swapped so you can get a non-defective one. Mine doesn't do what you describe.

Can you watch a KZbin Livestream in live 3D or is it just for uploaded videos?
@NimaZeighami
@NimaZeighami Жыл бұрын
Livestreams that are currently live work from any source, including KZbin. The only thing that doesn't work is a livestream AFTER the livestream ended. You have to wait for KZbin to process it into a regular video before it starts working again.

Cool tech but it has to be a display not a tablet to have some reach for the likes of me, cant do development with limited 3d processing power, I would expect to have a 3d scene in unity, unreal or touchdesigner, just pipe it in with a displayport and have the 3d work. It might sound a bit cocky but Looking Glass got the point really well on execution, highly compatible higly accesible, especially their 300$ display, i hope these guys will move forward tword an realistic scalable approach and not as a "everyone will have it in their pocket" mentality.

I don't believe the Lume Pad 2 is a true ight field display as you stated. The essential feature that creates a light field image is multiple (perfectly registered) layered displays. You correctly said early in the video, a light field image is created with color, intensity, and light ray direction (vector). The tech you described does not have multiple displat layers and cannot reproduce a light ray direction. If Lume Pad does have layered display then I think you should another video about how that creates a light vector.
@ANAVision
@ANAVision Жыл бұрын
@jcjensenllc the Lume Pad 2 does indeed have display layers (LCD/ DLB / Backlight). See diagram on ztedevices.com/en-gl/nubia-pad-3d/ Is this what you mean by layered displays?
@jcjensenllc
@jcjensenllc Жыл бұрын
@ANAVision yes, i see the Lume Pad has dual display panels (a sandwich). In that case, I hope you can do a follow-up video to explain how a light field (3D image) is created using the stacked panels because it is very interesting. In overly simple terms, the inner or back panel functions to reproduce the light ray direction (vector) or the third component of a light field image (color, brightness, direction). To accomplish this, the back panel is probably a one-bit monochrome lcd panel that either blocks or transmiting light. To visualize this, imagine a ray going from the right eye back to the monochrome panel pixel that is trasmitting light. In this case, you get the three components of a light field because when image pixel P2 is on and is illuminated by mask pixel A1, it creates a ray of light directed at the right eye as follows: _________ back light_________ A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 A6, A7, A8 P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, P8 I I I I I I O O right eye

@@jcjensenllc great diagram - love it! Yes, the backlight (DLB) is directional (the vector part) and the LCD is the color, intensity part. The optics are quite fascinating stemming from quantum computing nano technology. This is quite unique and different to lenticular and parallax barrier displays.
@jcjensenllc
@jcjensenllc Жыл бұрын
@@ANAVision Thanks. I enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. BTW, thought you might be interested in knowing that Leia founder David Fattal did did not invent the lightfield display technology, he just refined it so it could be commercialized. The inventor of the the concept of using multiple transparent panels to create a 3D effect and display different perspectives to different eye positions is often attributed to Douglas Lanman and his team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Lanman, along with his colleagues, developed a technology called "Tensor Display" that utilizes stacked transparent LCD panels to achieve a glasses-free 3D display with a more realistic and immersive experience. The research on Tensor Display was published in 2010 in a paper titled "Polarization Fields: Dynamic 3D Display using Multi-Layer LCDs." The technology relied on manipulating the polarization of light passing through the stacked transparent LCD panels to present different images to different viewing angles, allowing for an autostereoscopic 3D effect without the need for special glasses.

@@jcjensenllc What you just described seems completely different than the technology used in the Lume Pad 2, I don't think they're related at all. You can read more about the display technology in a peer-reviewed article in the scientific journal "Nature" which is called "A multi-directional backlight for a wide-angle, glasses-free three-dimensional display".

Plays videos in "ISO" format? True 3D is a RIP of the original bluray in ISO format.
@ANAVision
@ANAVision 11 ай бұрын
The Lume Pad does not natively play from a Bluray ISO image, you would need to extract the video from the ISO image first. You may also need to convert the video to a more universal format like MP4 SBS using video conversion software and then play that on the Lume Pad.
@jorgediaz4863
@jorgediaz4863 11 ай бұрын
@@ANAVision Hello, I am a 3D cinema collector, doing this conversion step loses a lot of quality, the "side by side" format is a low quality 3D format, 3D cinema is seen in the original real 3D format...not in " side by side" in that way you go blind... that's why 3D televisions disappeared and only real 3D full HD 3D movie projectors remained.
