You're becoming one of my favourite You Tube channels. Love riding along the trams like this, and this trip is probably my favourite of them all - from the somewhat eerieness of the light rail track to Crown where you wouldn't think it was 4:00am back the quietness back out of the CBD again. Great vid.

I love Melbourne about 5am. Melbourne as a city is the victim of bad planning ,it’s a mess once traffic hits but at 5 it’s fantastic.I drove taxis as a student always finishing about 5.Always loved knocking off.

Fascinating! With so many sets of switches (points) to go through, have you ever encountered one incorrectly set, sending you off in the wrong direction? These videos are a wonderful way to acquaint a visitor or new resident with such a beautiful city. Thank you for creating them and posting them here.

The easy bit is driving the tram. The hard bit is anticipating what cars, pedestrians and cyclists will do in front of the tram.

This is a lot of activity for 4am! But you say only a few trams operate around the clock, and only on Friday & Saturday. No line is 24/7? Four of Toronto's streetcars are 24 hours, along with about 15 bus routes. Of course, that's a bigger city.

Noticed the progression lantern at the bottom of Bourke st wasn’t working. Tram left the stop and then stops at king st. For a red light . Why not wait for more passengers at Bourke. When are YARRA teams going to fix this problem?
@Schony7474 жыл бұрын
It's not going to be fixed. The progression light caused more problems than good. You wait for the light to come up, then close the doors, then get complaints that people were left behind. You wait for people then miss the light. Either way you can't win.
@AndreiTupolev7 жыл бұрын

Watching this video again I have a couple of observations: (1) I'm surprised at the hundreds of taxis on the streets at that hour. Are they all in the process of distributing themselves around the city? (2) The automated announcements, notably in the CBD, are a bit tardy. They say "The next stop is..." when you are already there. Overall, I'd suggest that the announcement say "THIS stop is...".
@Schony7477 жыл бұрын
There are so many taxis as Uber has had a large effect on their business. I agree with you on the announcements. They are too close to the stop. It's what we have to work with. Anything else will require a software upgrade.
@BenjiCollier7 жыл бұрын
Do the trams use Call-loops to select signals and change facing points or is it set by a dispatch center?
@Schony7477 жыл бұрын
T lights are activated by induction loops like cars. There is a bell shaped transponder under the tram which helps there. Auto points also have a transponder and drivers select the direction with a point selector switch on the drivers panel.
