Two endangered and rare falcons that were rescued and nursed back to health have been set free, and Eyewitness News was there -- exclusively -- for the release.
The Peregrine Falcon is on New York State's endangered species list, but that may be about to change. Details: 7ny.tv/2qOOEGc

I see a pair of Falcons hunting pigeons daily in Brooklyn. Looks like a Grey Falcon, though not like this one.

I don't understand. If they work so well, why are there not hundreds of falcons all over NYC? There's plenty of food, and pigeons are not exactly the city's most favorite bird.

Its the correlation of the food chain and population size. Perrigrine Falcons are apex predators. Only 10% of all trophic energy from lower levels on the food chain moves up to the next, and the rest of that energy is used for the survival of the critter. For example, let’s use grass as our producer of energy and the unit is 100,000. Out of that hundred thousand, only 10,000 of that energy is transferred to herbivores such as a grasshopper. Then only 1,000 is given to the frog that eats the grasshopper, then 100 to the snake that eats the frog. By the time we are at the top or the apex, theres only 10 imaginary energy points left for those predators. That is why apex predators tend to have smaller populations, with the exception of humans. This is known as the “10% rule” of biology

DDT uses in the 40's and 50's caused their egg shells to be brittle and thin. Couldn't even hold up to the weight of their mothers
