If there was no institutionalised endemic corruption in Nigeria(by some corrupt greedy, evil hearltess politicians), Nigeria would today be the richest and most industrialised advanced country in the world, with no single poor person. Nigeria, just like other African countries, is not poor, but poorly managed. It makes my heart to weep. While doing a research in Foreign Direct Investments in developing countries, I chose Nigeria as a case study. That was when I realised how rich Nigeria is: since the first production of oil in 1958 (when the first Nigerian crude oil was exported to Rotterdam, Holland) up until 2020, Nigerian government has earned more than 1.5 trillion US dollars in oil revenue alone) without revenue from Natural Gas). I am now doing research on energy security(resource wars). I encourage every Nigerian, and every African to read these two books; 1- Chapter 1-Nigeria: Political violence, governanance and corporate responsibility in a Petro-State, by Okey Ibeanu and Robin Luckham) in the book ”Oil Wars 2007, by Mary Kaldoe, Terry Lynn Karl & Yahia Said . 2-Rising Powers, Shrinking Planet. The New Geopolitics of Energy 2009, by Michael T. Klare

My heart bleeds for Nigeria. Sometimes i feel like there's no hope for us. Our Fathers have been talking about another civil war for years. It just might be time for that. But there is so much greed and corruption that has existed for so long in that country, even if the Niger Delta becomes a republic of it's own, whose leadership will it be under?? We'd be right back to fighting in a year.

You cannot give up hope, as soon as you do then all hope is lost. I am a british born nigerian in the UK, but never does a day go by when I dont think of that country. I wish I could have used my intellect to advance the prospects of that nation. Its a shame, its has such potential and sadly the diaspora has been too successful, integrating better than most black groups into western nations. Another 30 years and the people who left will never return..

"When President Yar'Adua came in, he promised he was going to develop the Niger Delta. He has spent over one year, but has done nothing. Recently he came with the idea of a summit, but we said no. Today, the summit has been canceled. The puzzling dilemma here is how could such crux be analyzed? Nigeria one of Africa’s gold mine…the richest country in Africa. In fact, Nigeria has the best quality oil in the world, know as “light sweet crude” the best quality oil in the world, in the industry, light sweet refine oil is preferred for top premium JET-A fuel, the most expensive fuel in aviation. Up to $8.50 a gallon, sometimes more.

@lanunselat it simply that these companies (Total, BT,Shell) negotiate with the biggest army leaders whether rebels or government and pay them directly to help them steal from their country. They did this in the Diamond wars in Cameroon, Congo and South Africa. They did this in the Oil war, the Uranium war, Copper, Steel and so on.
