nice! little ocd tip: oil capacity for this engine is 5.2 liters, what I like to do is order 5 + 1 liters and I let 0.8 liters flow through the engine to the pan, flushing the remining bits out as well :)
@eminem2 Жыл бұрын
Nearly destroyed the car, but very nice video. DO NOT try to start the car after a fuel filter change if you are watching this. Many cars (including one of mine) have been destroyed like this. The high pressure Bosch CP4 fuel pump in this car will destroy your engine if you try to run it dry, the fuel is THE lubricant for this pump, running it dry will destroy it and kill the entire fuel system. Use ISTA to run a "bleed fuel system" or short the 12v wire for the activation of the fuel pre-supply small pump in the tank before trying to start the car!!!

If like me you don't have a long reach jack for the front centre jacking point. Use a hand jack on the side point to raise the car enough to get a regular trolley jack under the front centre point. Then once you have the car raised enough from the centre you can easily slide the axle stands on to the side jack points. Then just reverse the process to lower the car. A bit long winded but saves ££ on a new long reach jack

Sound to low in video, also this is an m sport model so it's advised to use the m sport air filter that doesn't have the grey layer on the bottom of the filter. Also remove the whole air filter housing to avoid unnecessary bending and twisting of plastic hoses and parts etc.

I'm looking to buy one with n47, is the timing chain still a problem in f30 generation?
@jimdcars3 жыл бұрын
Hi, mine is on 85k miles and hasn't had it changed, I've only had the car for the last 10k miles and she hasn't skipped a beat so far! (and I do like to rag it a bit). As far as I'm aware I've read on forums it's a lot worse on the E9X generation. As long as you have full service history you should be alright, and I got a warranty with mine to cover me as well just in case. Hope this helps.
@ivanmihanovic54433 жыл бұрын
It is fault in F series as well. On all n47 engines all up to 2014.
@nattawatausc69733 жыл бұрын
@@ivanmihanovic5443 Thanks for sharing, i've just read that after 2010 they come with longer chain guide and separated timming sprocket from crankshaft, BMWdoctor channel also mentioned that. Is that true and does it help?
@ivanmihanovic54433 жыл бұрын
@@nattawatausc6973not to let anyone down but sometimes I came across real s*it those bmw doctors/experts/mechanics say on yt (and many others will agree), not just about n47 engine. There is no separated crankshaft sprocket, it's still part of the crankshaft, there was an update on the 184 hp n47d20c engine on camshaft sprocket (stronger), but they are still failing but slightly less than 177 hp n47d20a. Many f30s and f10s I've done with broken chains and broken guides and one 64 plate just left the garage... the camshaft sprocket teeth are also known to wear out... the only better thing about 177 hp engine is it was under the bmw recall to check and replace if necessary while n47d20c in F series wasn't ever under any recall but fails a lot... and it's essential to replace with genuine kit, not fai or any other similar crap although many people on yt say fai is good, I have a few 30k-ish miles fai sprockets chains, sprockets and guides and you don't want to see the wear on them in just 30k

for petrol F30 you do not change the fuel filter. it is located in your low pressure fuel pump and its pretty much permanent. The diesel models have this extra second fuel filter under the body like in this video , but the petrol ones do not.
