Huge thank you Dr Chris for sharing your immense research into vegetable and seed oils. In this chat we talk about how the seed oils are made, why they are problematic for health, which foods they're in and how you can eliminate them from your families diet.

@@glennrobinson7193 good question. Peanut oil is often made from roasted peanuts that are mechanically ground - so not intensively heat and chemically treated. It really gets back to reading the label to check how it has been processed..

Why can't the cooking oil industry de-enrich the seed oils with omega-6 oil by employing differences in melting point and/or boiling points. The omega-6 oil can be fully hydrogenated for baking and deep frying. Every family cooking with butter is unaffordable and unsustainable.

Thanks for your comment with your thoughts. As veg / seed oils are in most of our family foods this topic is important to study. There is significant concern around Omega-6 oxidation, leading to increased risk of cancer, as well as other chronic disease pathways. Listen in to our chat with Grant Ennis - who gives insight’s into the real reasons that harmful junk foods are low cost. They’re strongly supported by governments. Making healthy natural fats affordable is possible - with changes to our industry financial levers.

‼️ WALNUT OIL - I have been trying for a long time to get someone to comment back regarding the use of walnut oil. I'm in Germany and I have found it very difficult to find avocado oil. When I do find it at one particular store close by, I usually buy for 250 ml bottles at a time. I cook with coconut oil and butter, but occasionally want some homemade mayonnaise or just a little bit of oil (with balsamic vinegar) in an occasional salad.

I'm thrilled that you 🩷'd my comment about Walnut oil, but do we have any research that's been done about it? {For now I'm well supplied with avocado oil, but it will be used up soon.}

Hi Betty - Great question. Walnut oil has many benefits: High in omega-3 fatty acid ALA and other fatty acids, as well as ellagitannins polyphenol compounds that act as antioxidants. You'll want to avoid cooking walnut oil at medium - high heat due to its low smoke point. Best uses are for dressings or other cold uses. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36369998/

The devil is in the detail. Any oil can become problematic if highly refined with heat and chemicals. Opt for cold-pressed walnut oil over refined walnut oil whenever you can.

@@BettyATtheOFFICE FYI we use walnut oil at home, as well as avocado, some olive oils - and plenty of animal fast tallow, butter and ghee. Some coconut oil too.

Peanut oils - can be great. But it depends how they are processed, and if anything is added. Check labels - but often a good choice.
