Spring is on its way and I for one can’t wait! I popped over to O’Toole’s Garden Centers for some supplies and started to grow some plants! modhippiehabits

Pre moisten the soil before filling the pots. That way when you top water right after planting the seeds, the water isn’t pushing the seeds deeper into the soil. And it’s best to bottom water after that, otherwise fungus gnats can be a big problem.
@IAmHisBeloved52 ай бұрын
You can sprinkle vermiculite on top of the soil to prevent fungus gnats.
@deboz87932 ай бұрын
@@IAmHisBeloved5 - True. I've used that and sand also. I had a lot less fungus gnats this year after I used sand and vermiculite. And those that got thru, those yellow stickies help capture them also.
@IAmHisBeloved52 ай бұрын
@@deboz8793 I’ve never tried sand. Thank you for sharing. Did you add both (sand and vermiculite)? Or did you add one or the other?
@deboz87932 ай бұрын
@@IAmHisBeloved5 I just used sand mostly. The only time I used vermiculite was when I was too lazy to get my jar of sand from the other room, and the vermiculite was close at hand. 😅

Instead of a beat mat and light I just put my plants in the oven OFF with the light on, and I use egg crates instead of store bought compost able.

It depends how you start them. If you use a seed starting tray when it has it's first set of true leaves. The first set of leaves look really similar on every dicot (2 leaf) seedlings and sometimes have the seed attached still. Once it grows true leaves, which are the next set of leaves that come, they need to be removed from seed starter trays. If you use solo or larger cups you can wait til they are 2-3" tall. If they are touching the lid of your seed starter tray it's a good sign it's past time!

I saw a video that tried espoma organic vs other brands like miracle gro. Espoma was the least productive and most expensive.

HA! I believe it!!!

I’ve seen those videos. Miracle Gro does seem to work really well but it isn’t organic. And some people prefer organic for their own health sake or if they will be selling to others.

I have the same greenhouse! Question...are the plastic seed starters better than the ones made of paper? Don't the paper ones disintegrated too quickly due to watering from the bottom? I purchased the paper ones now I'm thinking I should have purchased the plastic ones...🤔😔
@Electedsphinx40 Жыл бұрын
I use the paper ones for things that will need to be transplanted sooner and the plastic ones for things that take longer before needing transplanted
