I am jealous of your indoor seed starting set-up. I have a used two tier grow light system I bought a long time ago and a few windows that I can use, otherwise I have to wait for it to warm up so I can start seeds in the greenhouse and it have been -10C every night and I don't have heaters so the greenhouse is out the question. When will it warm up here in central east Alberta? There is a ton of snow on the ground and I for one, am totally sick of it! My seeds should be arriving any day now.

If this happens to you again, don’t divide them until they start sprouting. They stand a better chance of survival as a clump versus individual tubers. Then you don’t accidentally lose any cuttings that sprout from between two crowns which has happened many times to me when I just left them in a clump to eye up before dividing. Hope that helps for next year.

What do you use to make your soil blocks? It looked like regular seed starting mix?

That’s all it was! There are better ways to do it, but this is good enough for this year.

I have a question. How do you bump everything up? I have so much going I would need a massive grow room to bump up. Mine are getting root bound and some damping off

Oh no! Part of how I’m able to do it is I kick my cold tolerant seedlings outdoors as soon as the weather permits, which frees up more space indoors.

She has a video up on her channel about starting dahlias and gladiolus without soil, perhaps that could be an option for you?

No you don’t if you aren’t taking cuttings then you don’t need a I wake them up before planting outside. You can keep them stored until planting time. But if you have a shorter growing season than you do. Want to start them early in pots. If you’re not taking cuttings then you need to bury the entire thing 4-5inches below the surface surface in the pot so that they have a good strong stem when you go to plant out.

@@ShiftingRoots just watched a professional gardener say to start them and extra month earlier if you plan to take cuttings and just jab them in moist soil to root under lights. Bottom heat will help the tubers come to life

This is my first year growing dahlias and I’m wondering why you would “take cuttings” instead of just leaving them on the tuber ?

To try and get more plants to get more tubers! This is totally optional though.

When do you start watering from the bottom if you started seeds in cells? Nite nite baby

Immediately start watering from the bottom, even if the seed is just resting on top of the soil.

Seems like to your little baby is not conformable in that position. It looks like the baby is struggling to get breathable position. As the natural position for the head which is not strong in neck area is to ook forward. And so the baby is not in position to breath easy. And the way she is tied into that fabric with hands down and whole chest also forward without any possibility to assist the head, she looks very uncumfortable. Also she has no view of her surroundings. But your little plants look great.

I noticed that, too, & could not continue to watch. Uber stressful.😢 Perhaps turn baby forward & free her arms/movement & allow natural head & neck movement. It's difficult momming with a tiny baby while pursuing hobbies, but baby needs to come first. Love baby wearing, but this was just stressful to witness.
