I love your podcast. I am form alberta, Canada. Zone 3. Can you please please include information on how to grow in cold climate?

Great idea! I will add growing in cold climates to our list of potential future topics. For Sweet William in particular, since it is not winter hardy in your zone, your first planting opportunity will be getting your transplants in the ground 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected spring frost. Note that you will want to prepare your beds in the fall (check out episode 8 for more information on this topic). Hope that helps, and have a lovely day! 💚🤗💚

So much really great, useful info! Thank you for this video. I winter sowed Amazon purple this year. First time ever growing Sweet William. They are still blooming now in mid August and are absolutely beautiful! I’ve already started the Amazon purple and lavender variety to plant this fall. After watching this video, looks like I’ll have to hurry and buy a few more seed varieties.

Yay - glad to hear you have August Sweet William blooms, too 😊 I love all the varieties you mentioned, by the way! Will this be your first time growing 'Amazon Lavender Magic'? You are going to love it 🥰 Thanks so much for watching, and have a wonderful day! 💚🤗💚

Great episode...very helpful. Thank you! Layne, for the home gardener do any of these varieties self sow? Love the pictures you share!

Really great information. I’m just wondering what time you would plant for an August bloom. I’m also wondering about the Barcelona series that is on Johnny’s website.

Hello! We recommend planting the 'Amazon' series for summer blooms. That series typically takes around 105 to 120 days from seed to bloom. You can work backwards from your goal bloom date to see when you might want to start the seeds. Hope that helps, and thanks so much for watching! 💚🤗💚

Has anyone grown the Barcelona series? I'm curious to how it compares to the other varieties.

It's flowering for me now. I would say a little stronger stems than Sweet. I love it and will grow it again.

What a great episode! I am wondering if I can grow some over the winter in low tunnels in Zone 5B Southeastern Vermont (first fall frost Sept 30th). I plan to do a great big row of ALL of those in my high tunnel. Amazon and Sweet are described as tender perennials in zones 6-9. I have the bienennial type popping up all over my yard that we planted over ten years ago! I will also start some in very early Spring, as it has been an indispensable crop for me this year, and as Dave said, I wish I had planted more!

Hello! Sweet William is typically winter hardy to USDA zone 5, so you should be able to overwinter them in your low tunnels 😀 Glad to hear you love these flowers as much as we do, and that you are growing lots of different varieties! Thanks so much for watching, and have a fabulous day 💚🤗💚
