I always knew this would be a problem, long before robots started walking with this much competency. As humans we already have a data bank of information about the physical environment and we can tell that a blade of grass does not have the same strength as a tree trunk. Now here we are trying to come up with clever ways of getting around that problem by giving robots these patchwork solutions.
