Damn, man, based on the quality of this video review, you are seriously underrated. I just got the Cat S61 as my latest smartphone and it's built in thermal camera is my first ever step into the world of thermal. I was more than a bit dissapointed to learn the that thermal resolution had not been increased at all over the S60's crunchy 80x60. Although images utilizing the MSX technology are great and clear, anything in the dark over 10 feet away, that isn't a large structure, is all but indecipherable. Oh how I wish Cat would have upgraded the thermal sensor to the 120x160 Lepton module. Now that I'm hooked on thermal imaging, I seriously might have to consider this unit from Seek! Because other than quick diagnoses and up close work, my S61 just isn't going to feed my thermal needs 😬
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 6 жыл бұрын
ctuan13 Thanks for saying that. I had that same phone from Cat and ended up getting rid of it. It was cool having that tech in a phone. But super low resolution thermal makes thermal look bad and gimmicky. It can still hook you into the obsession though if you’re into this stuff. Once you go higher res, thermal becomes really amazing. I think The Reveal Pro Fast Frame offers the best resolution and frame rate under $1000. I would love to own a higher res monocular from Flir but there’s nothing out there in my budget. The price step from the Reveal Pro to anything better is huge. That’s why this is still such a special device.

Roo's Views Ahh so did you have the S60 or new S61, cause that's what I have. It just came out. I love it, but I can't understand why they didn't go with the 120x160 Lepton unit. I've seen side by side comparison footage and that bump makes a huge difference. But yeah I was considering some cheaper options like the Flir one pro. But in the end, I've already got a lower res Flir camera with MSX built into my phone, why not step it up yo something really substantial? I'm definitely considering the reveal pro.

I've read that the frequent clicking noises it makes while running are normal. The image also seems to freeze for a split second while doing that. I'm guessing that's normal, too? Just got this thing, but looks cool so far.
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's normal. When the unit has been powered on for a few minutes the time between freeze-clicks increases, so it becomes less of a distraction the longer you leave it on.
@TheExtraTerrestrial
@TheExtraTerrestrial 5 жыл бұрын
@@Roos-Reviews Great, thanks for the info! It is pretty distracting at first because it happens a lot. This is a cool gadget, but I'm not a fan of the sensor placement. At closer range, it's very difficult to image things near the ground and still see the screen (since I have to point the unit downwards).
@JAKOB1977

Very solid video, love your take on the matter, and yeah the thermal world is certainly fascinating and mindblowing.. but one thing is puzzling me, its seems its just the seek pro sensor there is fitted 1:39 but sofare in that adjusting zoom useally valid on the pro sensor (not crappy digital) is taken out of the equation.? Anyway great video, just took the plunge on the pro at 290 USD IOS and went out an bought an ipad 2018 soely for it. (still cheaper then what just a seek pro vould cost retail here in Denmark where they often cost 800 to 900 hence +taxing and +25% vat. btw the seek pro is listed as 15cm to 550m but its likely down to manual adjustable zoom so if its looked it could be why it doesnt go out that fare. btw only con about the vid, giving it back they should have let you keep it with the time it took to make such an comprihensive video, they where honest fair and not shill humping..though I belive it was a shame that you didnt displayed the emissivity result of the 75 degree pot after changing it to fit the circumstances 4:52 and I as a viever is left with the thoughts that you likely didn't got a good reading and now hiding it' ewen thow you give the impression that it would solve such an situation. :-/
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 6 жыл бұрын
Jakob Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. I wasn’t hiding the emissivity settings, it’s just that to be honest it’s a little beyond my technical knowledge, and I don’t have a use for it, so I didn’t spend much time on understanding how to properly use it and get accurate readings. I just wanted to show that the feature is there for advanced users to potentially find a use for. I agree that the IOS versions are a more affordable way to go and have their own advantages. Manual focus is great. I would love to see manual focus on the Reveal Pro 2 if they make one. I look forward to seeing what they come up with in future. My biggest wish is for them to make a really small thermal monocular.

Generally, they are two types of PVC cable, general purpose and heat resistance PVCs with maximum conductor temperatures of 70°C and 90°C respectively. PVC insulated cables are used in power distribution. I cant understand why your saying your solar cables need upgrading when the reading on the camera is showing around 30c ??????????????? this is a normal temperature.
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 5 жыл бұрын
Nick Bengtsson The hot spots in the wires were quite a bit hotter than that. It’s not that it was a fire risk, just that if wires are heating up, that’s lost energy and thicker gauge wiring would be better.

I find it hard to understand why the previous model had an SD card slot for up to 32gb of removable storage, yet this newer model (which I just bought used) has no memory card slot and only 4GB of internal storage! In addition, the "gallery" only shows two of the images that I captured before returning itself to live view, and it won't show up as a drive on my pc to download the images anyway! Turns out many other people have the same problem and are returning this model; customer support being poor to non-existent. Overall, very disappointed.
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 2 жыл бұрын
The image file sizes are so tiny you can fit over a thousand of them in the internal memory. I suppose that's why they did away with the sd card slot. It was also fiddly to access the card. I haven't had any issues with the gallery on mine. I haven't had any problems connecting it to my PC. My only issue is the battery indicator - it regularly tells me the battery is almost dead, even though it's fully charged. So I never know how much power is left.

@@Roos-Reviews I would guess I just have a faulty unit with regards to the pc connection. I got what I paid for, it was ebay after all. I wanted one for nocturnal wildlife spotting, and to upload the images to my pc, where I could post process them, so it's a major problem for me. I guess I'll have to do what you did and build some kind of jig for pics and video. Anyway, thanks for getting back to me :) PS: I was wrong about the gallery, I found today I just need to scroll backward, not forward.

First you say you are not affiliated with Seek in any way. Then you say you borrowed this camera and have to return it. Borrowing a product from the company that builds and sells that product so you can review said product is the very definition of affiliated.
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure where you’re reading that definition but here’s the definition from the Oxford dictionary: Affiliated adjective (of a subsidiary group or a person) officially attached or connected to an organization. I’m definitely not affiliated with Seek Thermal.

That thing should be flat. It looks very weird when you set it on the table.

unless you're a high maintenance biatchh solely seeking how you appearance come across for others, - then i think most would prefer the feel and how it feels in ter hand in regards to how it lay on a freaking flat table..c'mon

Seek thermal sucks. My seek reveal arrived with the sensor installed upside down so the screen was inverted view. i contacted them via email. Took them a week to even get back to me, by which time I had returned it and bought a FLIR which was WAAAAY better. Terrible customer support. FLIR is much better tech and support. See what happens when you screw over your customers? bad reviews...

Horrible design the USB port only lasts a couple hundred times and then it's trash vs SD card can get pulled out a hundred thousand times no problem a Wi-Fi option would have been much better once that USB port is destroyed the devices uses

Mine’s still going strong and it has been several years. I’ve never had a micro USB port die after a couple of hundred uses. That would be rare or the result of poor handling. Micro USB ports are typically rated for at least 10,000 cycles. With a device like this you are not going to plug in a data cable more than 10,000 times. And even if you did, that would equate to downloading images from it every day for 27 years. So I think you’ll be fine.

@@Roos-Reviews Look at clip Sony A7siii you'll see it. Especially you can see it far as panorama view. Your thermal can't do because it detect IR as they can perceived so they can't see it from afar.
