Vincent McGrath I recommend it to not taking it seriously... But if you want, I think a strong definition of imagination is required. You won't lose your emotions, imagination is just a part of the intelligence and the normal brain functions, so... you won't be able to think, you will gain knowledge only from practice. If it doesn't happen, then you can't find it. However my comment was just to point how absurd is to imagine such a thing. Because Imagination is abstract terminology. You can't define something you're not specific what exactly it is.
@thefurrybastard196410 жыл бұрын
sarfios I like your answer. But I do think imagination is what has given us art, technology and culture. I do agree that we would still have our emotional lives, but if we remove imagination from that equation, how would our emotions be affected? As to defining imagination, like any complex concept there are a number of definitions. These definitions do not contradict one another. the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses. Or the ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful. To quote but 2 of them. Once again, thank you for your intelligent and well worded response.

Yes, I can imagine what it's like. I have Aphantasia and I've never seen an image in my brain. my memory has no images associated with it. There is no audio, sense of taste, touch or smell. I'm 40 years old now and one month ago is when I found out that people actually do see imagery. I thought everyone was like me as I assume that people who can imagine just assume everyone is like them. Finding out that I had Aphantasia was very emotional to me because it explained so much of my life. Why I can't remember anything about my dad that died when I was 16. I can't hear another person's voice in my mind so I don't remember his at all and I can't recall anything we ever did together. So my memory suffers because without imagery there is no real connection to your past. I have to experience everything directly in front of me. I was a skateboarder for 16 years and I don't remember learning the tricks or when I see video of me skating...I don't remember that day at all so there is no real connection to it. So yes....I know what it's like to not imagine. That's why VR is so amazing and important to me.

I think imagination is useful also to wonder about how people thinked in the prehistory, and how the future will be. This way, they can also wonder from their age, how we think and live in the present. Being the imagination, the mental place where we all can gather, even conscious beings from far away planets, when the only way to aknowledge us is through imagination. We may see ourselves and coincide, and just maybe send a message. Like telepathy. If that works, then maybe we could also make things happen in the reality and matetialize things, maybe with the hrlp of some aryifacts, and be able to create and move things like telekinesis. And maybe experiment other powers like teleportation with avatars to worlds we could never be becausr of our bodies...
@johannes438710 жыл бұрын
Without imagination there wouldn't be process and change. Also animals have to change their behavior as a reaction to nature but it's more instinctive or evolutionary because the haven't got the consciousness to inventk new ideas every time they decide to. Our brain is hardwired to imagine. It has also a lot to do with recalling memory like a basis for new ideas. And have you ever passed an exam without having studied? It's because you can invent new solutions without having to memorize them.
@Toastmaster_500010 жыл бұрын
I feel like imagination is more common throughout the animal kingdom than people think it is. For example, animals dream and often try "running" in their sleep. Isn't a dream a form of imagination? Also, many animals can make decisions. The only way to decide something is to imagine the outcome. Then there are animals that use tools, where they use a tool in order to accomplish something their bodies cannot. But they have a mental idea of how the tool can be used to aide them, as well as what the tool is made of and what it looks like.

I put it down and showed my dog it was nothing to fear. I thing this suggest that dogs have at least a primitive imagination, because the Jigsaw mask looks like a face, but not really, the only way my dog could have understood that it was a face is by a simple abstract thinking. I have since used the mask around dogs and I have concluded that they don't like it.

1:18 This is nothing incredibly unique. If you make a scatter plot of different animals based on the number of neurons in the neocortex, and the number of years the animal takes to reach adulthood, you get a very smooth curve. Of course, this only works with mammals because no other group of animals has a neocortex, but essentially it shows that the number of years it takes an animal to reach adulthood is directly and strongly correlated with the number of neurons in the cortex, which itself can be used as a rough approximation for the animal's intelligence. Tl;Dr: longer childhoods isn't something special. Length of childhood is directly correlated with the size of the cortex, which is roughly correlated with intelligence.

I do computer/I.T work, as well as electronics as a hobby. I find this comes in handy for lots of things. Even some commuter problems granted i know the stuff, but sometimes you find some odd issue, and you have to just start guessing, or try something nobody else has had to do. I had one issue at home my router was very limited, and i needed advanced feature to make a setup work right, It meant replace the router, deal with it, or find another way. I woke up the next day thought if i change the range value on the router then the issue should go away, and i'll have unused I.P addresses in this range. I did the setup it worked perfect issue gone. At that time i was just getting into the field, I later told my college networking teacher about and he seemed fairly impressed. I found out later why because in the final year of the program that is something they cover, and i did it like 2 months after starting. Also i think gives me kind of unique way to look at reusing something that would otherwise be trash like an old printer, radio.

Coming up with creative ideas has never been my forté but I would really like to know that mankind's societies could flourish using a system far less evil and predatory.. One that doesn't require the average human be willing to sacrifice 3/4 of his or her own life just to meet other people's financial requirements of them.. A world without "stuff" to pay for wouldnt be that bad but I want to imagine a world where EVERYONE gets exactly what they need to be satisfied and content, even happy and ecstatic if that be your desire.. I'd love to put the hive to work on that one.. I've been peeing in the wind alone on this one long enough , I could really stand some company.. :)
