When Hanh Tran waded through deep estuary mud towards a waiting boat on a dark night in July 1979, he could not have imagined the ordeal that was about to begin.
He was part of a mass movement of 800,000 people boarding boats of all sizes to flee a country ravaged by years of conflict and instability. They became known as the Vietnamese Boat People.
When the North Vietnamese Army marched into Saigon in April 1975 some were uncertain about what their new rulers had in store, but Hanh was not. His father had left the communist north many years before, and knew what to expect.
Please subscribe HERE bit.ly/1rbfUog
The stories of five people who fled persecution in their own countries and found sanctuary in Wales are being told via a virtual reality exhibition in Cardiff. Hanh Tran was one of thousands of Vietnamese people who escaped by boat once Communist forces took over the country. Here is the story of his voyage to safety

It was not a re-education camp. It was a "refugee camp"... !!!! .... Cos you were trespassing into HK... or whatever it was, under the British rule, at that time.

I was a baby when my entire family fled northern Vietnam in a boat bound for Hong Kong in 1978. After almost 2 yrs in Hong Kong we boarded a plane for Gatwick and arrived in the winter of 1980. My dad told me he didn't know how to find the toilet at the airport. We moved to the East Midlands and in 1986, we moved to London where I have lived ever since. I am grateful to Britain for accepting us. My mother never wanted to talk about our escape from Vietnam as it was so traumatic. Whenever I asked her if she wanted to go back just for a visit she would always say she would never go back. She lived until 2022 and never returned back to her home country. Thank you to the kind people who introduced my parents to the British way of life back in 1980. Thank you Britain for giving us the chance of a new life.

Dan Parsons i know mate i don't believe this particular man is an economic migrant, my issue is with the narrative that the BBC and the rest of the main stream media are perpetuating. By only reporting and spotlighting the genuine refugee cases, they are trying to craft this image that all cases are like this when they absolutely are not. Why do they hardly ever spotlight the large amount of "refugees" that are young and male with no women or children? Why do they hardly ever spotlight the cases of "refugees" claiming they are children when it is blatant they're at least 20? Because it ruins their pro refugee/immigration narrative. You can't take these agenda pushers seriously.

stray dog7 excuse me.... if your so Christian then you should be giving and loving without judgment to type of person race, religion or possible abuse to kindness! Those who are truly in touch with god know to give and give when they even have nothing! So if your so proud to be Christian then be more Christian and be more kind and giving. wow! your statement just made the christians look terribly selfish and inconsiderate... “To repent” means to turn around your ways, further meaning to go against the mainstream ways of control, hatred, discriminative judgement, to change and love every being with life, is what god intended and the problem with Christians who claim they’re proud to be Christian... they don’t even know how to show the first bit of kindness to a stranger... that’s the problem with your so called claims. P.s not everyone is a “lucerifarian” like you fear... and those who control are actually hidden behind your religion if you’d bother to do some knowledgeable digging for yourself. The Christian religion was supported by large banking company’s hundreds of years ago the pre ancestors of the Rothschilds, they control the government and the more common religions like your own, and many many other areas around of the world. They control with bribery and money... So note average people tend to just have A LOT OF HUMAN DECENCY TO CARE ABOUT OTHER LIVING BEINGS. And your actually being controlled. Seriously go enlighten yourself...

China uses Vietnam communist party to indirectly control of Vietnam . China created the communist party organization in Vietnam . In 1954 after China and Vietnam communist party took over the North of Vietnam ( 1953 - 1957 in China Mao Zedong killed 45 millions of Chinese to rob lands and golds called the great leap forward or revolution , in the meantime , in the North of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh ( note that Vietnam does not have last name Ho , therefore Ho chi Minh is Chinese , he can speak Vietnamese like many Vietnamese leaders of the communist party ) killed 200 thousand of people in the North of Vietnam also to rob lands and golds called the lands Reform “Đấu tố” chiến dịch diệt chủng trong Cải cách ruộng đất kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJjJYYaAap6ibac ( they are tortured cruelly and killed , the Haven Gate jail in the north of Vietnam where people are treated like animals before they are killed by Vietnamese communist party . Migrate in 1954 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYbOkmWnqdGYhdU The South Vietnam had the freedom like Singapore , South Korea and 'Taiwan now , the North of Vietnam is control by Vietnam communist party ( well trained in China = same policy and very poor ) . In 1968 the Vietnam communist party attacked the South of Vietnam during the New Year eve ( the VC = Vietnamese communist party broke the Peace treaty signed by The South of Vietnam GOV and VC , North Vietnam's "Talk-Fight" Strategy and the 1968 Peace Negotiations with the United States . ) HUẾ MASACRE OF 7,000 CIVILIANS BY COMMUNITISTS ,Mr. Dien and his wife, Twin Cities residents, are survivors of the 1968 Tet Offensive massacre in Huế. For weeks, from 7,000 to 7,800 unarmed mostly male civilians between 12 and 60 were gathered together at schools or public parks and tied up in bundles of 12-15 with phone cords. They were taken on trucks to an open field where huge graves had been dug. The communists soldiers used steel shovel to crack their skulls open then pushed the bundles into the graves. Others were buried alive or chopped up with machetes. ( DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COMMUNIST PARTY PROMISES , JUST LOOK AT WHAT COMMUNISTS DO OR DID. ) In 1973 once again VC sign the Paris Treaty again , but VC broke the peace Treaty again and used the China weapons and 100 thousand Chinese soldiers who can speak Vietnamese attacked the South of Vietnam ( there are many people in the South of Vietnam who worked for VC , spies most of them are living in the west of Vietnam ) Being a refugee is not a choice: Carina Hoang at TEDxPerth kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKjOh55na92Ymdk

Happened to extended family members of mine. They all made it to the U.S. back in the mid 80’s. Thai pirates raided boats and had raped all the women on board even young girls. The Vietnamese men on board tried to help without falling off the boat but not much luck. These Thai men were typically poor and had hoped people brought gold or other valuables on board. Once they made it to a shore, it was all over as the pirates didn’t want to get caught.

one of my grandfathers was a Chinese fisherman from Thailand and amongst these so-called pirates. from his point of view, his family was poor and had to protect his homeland from illegal migrants. the people who were fleeing with all those riches weren't the best people, hence they were wanted by their government for crimes.

Yes, yes, of course it is nice to show your virtue by taking in the genuine refugees of our war torn world, but why is it that nothing is said about the miraculous economic model that will then support everyone??? It is grossly irresponsible not to give that consideration. We all know that already our mental health services for young people are lamentable, and we have growing numbers living in poverty or homeless. That’s before we consider how we are going to pay for the social care needed for our growing elderly population.... somebody somewhere is going to pay the price for sanctuary Britain and you can bet your bottom dollar it won’t be the virtue signalling elite.
