Felt like commenting after reading some of the plagiarism comments in here. With all due respect to the KZbinr who made that video about the same topic, creating a few minutes long YT video where you talk about a certain topic and writing, producing, directing a feature length film on that same topic is NEVER going to be plagiarism, because it's simply NEVER going to be the same thing.

i saw this last week and it's a gorgeous, one of a kind film. the plagiarism allegations are completely baseless and lowkey anti-intellectual. i urge you to watch this and at least form your own damn opinion!!

Nah, Mavis Beacon was a BIG part of my childhood along with my siblings. I still fall asleep to her lobby music til this day and I’m 31 years old 😭🙏🏽🔥💯

Came on here because I was excited but genuinely surprised that anyone is accusing them of plagiarism for a documentary that is truly so individual. When I saw this at the Lacma screening they discussed how they've been working on it since 2018. It’s a beautiful and - trust - original film about their OWN JOURNEY investigating. Big Mavis Beacon fan, excited for this release

If you came here to drop a blurb you got off Google then drop the mic, the point of this film is gonna go right over your head. I just saw it today, didn't know anything about it and I thought it was great. At points made me as uneasy as any thriller I've seen, made my heart fill with sorrow, joy, cringe, pride for the filmmakers/characters on their journey. Plus the soundtrack slaps. But if I hadn't watched the whole thing to the end it would never have landed that way. Just go see it if you can.

In 2024, a documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, which investigates who is Mavis Beacon. Turns out that the image of a corporately attired Black woman on the software packaging, was not of someone named Mavis Beacon, but rather a Haitian model named Renee L'Esperance. She was paid $500 for posing for the marketing photo, wasn't involved in the development or the sales of the software and did not share in any of the presumably significant profits generated by the product. Ms. L'Esperance herself neither appears in nor is directly quoted in the documentary. There, saved you all time watching this.

@@MeanderBotThe people who made this documentary stole the ideas and content from a KZbinr named Ray Mona. She's even posted here. This "documentary" doesn't deserve respect

Saw one clip on IG. Didn't think I was gonna watch it anyway based off of that. Too manny things trigger my senses and I was almost twitching ½ way though the trailer. Their cadences and the background music combined with what looks like there's too many weird lighting choices and just looks visually all over the place. I'd have a sensory overload stroke by the end 😂😂.

I"m all in on this. My parents had me learning to type when I was a kid. While I wasn't proficient then, it did make me comfortable around computers, which I have to thank them for that. And now after over a decade in corporate America, I can now type relatively fast without looking at the keyboard so we did Joe lol

While I like the concept of this, the trailer seems to be edited and cut in a way where it's less about actually finding the titular "Mavis Beacon" (spoiler alert, she doesn't exist; the model does, but Mavis is just a product mascot) and more about the team themselves. It should've been produced and cut like the usual "let's look for this person" documentaries to give me/us that 'hook' to watch this. I'm sure the film is OK and well-made but the trailer doesn't grab me in a way that goes, "HEY YOU, watch this movie!"

No. Mavis Bacon is totally real. She was my typing teacher in 3rd grade. Just like how I'm friends with and call Santa Claus once a week and even drink with the tooth fairy on Saturday Nights. Oh, and I play Disco Metal songs with The Easter Bunny

I've seen a couple references to plagiarism, but I don't know what's going on. Can you fill me in?
@scottperkerson53623 ай бұрын
@@taylormefford2948 I would highly suggest checking out Ray Mona’s Mavis Beacon video ✌️ she’s been making lost media content for quite a few years now and puts a lot of dedicated time and research into it. The creator of this project actually reached out to her initially and basically ripped her style of content.
