Breaking plastic parts while repairing vehicles isn't a 'Mistake'. It's a normal happening that should be part of the owners expenses. Ex; When your pwr window won't work right , tis because the regulator parts are no longer all metal, but brittle plastic now broken.

I love your content. You provide us with everything, wins and losses. Not only does it help everyone emotionally seeing someone fail (not in a bad way, but as a everyone fails way which is rare on KZbin besides the fail videos), but you also provide real work experience, stuff that I wish I would have seen much earlier in my car mechanic life working on my own vehicles. I also hope that you doing these videos helps you as well, not just financially, but also with your end product as you have a following of people to call you out on errors to help you be a better mechanic or because you describing the method of repair to us out loud and you end up realizing or finding a new/better way to accomplish a task.

@@colchronic If it was a coolant line then brass on aluminum would be a terrible idea, but a breather with PTFE separating the metals I'd be shocked if it was an issue.
@johnhpalmer6098
@johnhpalmer6098 2 жыл бұрын
@@colchronic To clarify, when two dissimilar metals are connected directly like for instance, plumbing, galvanized pipes connected directly to copper, galvanic corrosion. It's when a metal that is incompatible meets another metal, accelerated corrosion results and in a few years, leaks can appear in the case of plumbing. That's what's been discovered in my house, and was likely done when the bathroom was redone in 2009.
@creamofbotulismsoup9900
@creamofbotulismsoup9900 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnhpalmer6098 To add to this a bit more you can have dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other and have zero issues if they are not also in contact with a electrolyte such as water that contains minerals or a tiny amount of metal dissolved in it. Things like CPU coolers and AC evaporators/condensers will often have aluminum and copper in direct contact with each other and they don't corrode any faster than they would if the metals weren't in contact with each other. If you use those same metals with each other for plumbing or a cooling loop they will corrode much faster and they don't even have to be in direct contact with each other to cause problems. You can use corrosion inhibitors in a cooling system(most if not all automotive coolant will contain these inhibitors) to reduce galvanic corrosion but it doesn't completely solve the problem and even 100% pure water will eventually dissolve some of the metals it is contact with and become electrically conductive.

It was so tight all the threads on the bolt got smashed as he turned it and the pliers. They even left indents on the head of the bolt. After that he was so happy. We have had to drill/cut/torch out too many bolts. Those pliers must be made of some high quality steel.

Best in life found to do with headlights that are a bit past it is to sand with a fine grit sandpaper then use lacquer

Those Rim stands are safer than jack stands, btw. If placed properly. Been unxsr many over the years all the yards i know use them and dont have concrete yards like this place. Dirt or crushed stone. Ive never in my life ever heard of them failing. I started my career as a dismantler for 7 years. Never saw a car fall over. Probably made more koney doing that than repairing. What i learned dismantling is priceless. How to get things apart withought breaking them. Not to mention organizarion and speed. 32 vehicles a month. And always got the most difficult vehicles. All the high end stuff. 4x4`s and body cuts amd glass pulls. And back then had to clean amd tag my own parts. And do all my own paperwork. On top of that my last 1.5 hrs a day doing repairs on engines. Intake gaskets on gm v6's and rebiulds on front end amackedu subaru and audi v6 engines. I was a beast now im metal and a useless body. Metal from my neck to my ankle and a couple knee surgeies. One replaced. And back surgery. Going in for mri today for another cage in my neck. Work hard play hard and at 50 spent lol. Took 8 years off to build houses ground up. Concrete to the roof and finish work. But trust me. If one has a brain those rim stamds are extremely reliable. And way way better than a jack stand.

Finding the part in the boneyard is part of the adventure! Seeing other possible parts is icing on the cake! Trying to figure out what sent the vehicle to their death sentence is all part of the game. Unfortunately, yards around me have lessoned the amount of people that are allowed in the yard.

IIRC..Dorman makes a replacement fitting than you can get at almost any Auto Parts Store. It is a very common part that gets broken, a lot !

Don't go heavy on the tape with the plastic fitting or the interference will raise the torque requirement past what it can take before it seats. If you really want thread sealing it may be better to go with a liquid version where the excess can get out of the way.

In both instances, I'd have stopped pulling the wrench 5 pulls earlier! Live and learn they say.

On the note of your headlights I have had good luck restoring them with the kits and then take them to a paint shop and have them throw a layer of clear coat on them. If prepared and done right they should last a long time.
