@@lincolnnoronha4128 If you are interested, I recommend starting with the tutorial and guide on MahjongSoul, which is a free browser game. It is a quick and informative introduction that will allow you to understand most of what happens in these videos. From there you can memorize a few yaku from the in-game yaku guide, and get going with some games. Over time you'll start to remember more yaku and mechanics. If you want to interface with some of the more advanced mechanics and understand the game even better, the Japanese Mahjong wiki, arcturus.su/wiki/Main_page, can fill in the details on terminology, strategy, and advanced rules (like the scoring system.) And, if you find the game to be interesting and like anime, Akagi, which is available on Crunchyroll, is a compelling thriller that can deepen your understanding of the rules, culture, and strategy of the game. Pogs assured or your riichi back. Join us down this rabbit hole, as we follow our Egg god to a land of pogificity. A land where pons and chiis rain from the heavens and fill the fertile soil with enough han to grow great plains of mangan. Some day, you too will find yourself adopting 13 orphans and replacing your diet with all greens to pass through the 9 gates with all honors to meet the big three dragons who raise four concealed triplets behind four big winds, to receive the blessings of heaven and earth and claim the yakuman you deserve.

Ending your misery and not getting messed up even worse is important in its own right. In a lot of contexts, you're playing mahjong so that the points correspond to some sort of buy-in, whether it be real gambling or video game currency or ranked points or whatever, so how hard you lose does matter outside of your actual placement. Also, denial is honestly just fun sometimes, but I'm kind of a terrible person when it comes to games like this, regardless of what place I'm in.
@AmnesiacDoe4 жыл бұрын
Two short caveats to this: 1) if the hand has the potential to turn into something valuable enough to shift your placement, then for sure it's a misplay, but that's all about eyeballing how many tiles are left and asking yourself if you can make it there. 2) if the hand is closed, they're almost certainly fishing for the ura dora dream to save them.
@timturner76094 жыл бұрын

I think this is more of a beginner thing where they're either just focused on a round-by-round basis, unsure of their hand score or just playing casually. Having played with more skilled & professional players, I can understand the mentality of trying to cause an upset, securing your lead or calculating the point-risk when dealing in, but for more casual players it's more about just winning each round and maybe trying to go big regardless of chance to succeed. If you managed to get a ton of pts / 1st place, great. If not, doesn't matter. It's not some high-stake competition after all.
@Waggles11234 жыл бұрын
Hey NL, just a note: "All runs" isn't a yaku. It's a bad translation of Pinfu because Pinfu, by nature, requires all runs. A better translation for Pinfu is "no Fu". A Pinfu hand requires you to get no Fu from a hand. Fu is awarded for: - Any triplets/quadruplets (koutsu/kantsu). [This is why the hand must be all runs (shuntsu)] - A pair of yakuhai, which are any of the honor tiles that would normally give you a yaku (your seat, round seat, dragons) - Your winning tile being: a pair wait, an inside wait (waiting on 5 with 46), or an edge wait (waiting on 3 with 12). Essentially, you need a closed hand with all runs, and your last run needs to be a 23, 34, 45, 56, 67, or 78 waiting on the pair of tiles on the outside (this wait is called ryanmen). This CAN include a wait like having 23456, which would make your waits 1,4,7, since it's a wait for 1,4 on 23 or 4,7 on 56. Pinfu works well with Richi since it requires a closed hand and Richi doesn't add Fu. The hardest part about getting the hand to work is getting the ryanmen wait, since getting to tenpai with any other wait more or less gets rid of the yaku.

this may be totally incorrect, but I believe that in East 3 when east dropped a white dragon you were in temporary furiten because that was the tile you were looking for. after east dropped another tile you should have been out of furiten, however at that point you would have seen 3 of 4 white dragons so it was a good play to shift to a different wait. I think this only comes up if you are not in riichi? if anyone can help clarify I would be very thankful since it would help me too!
@1up20x64 жыл бұрын
"All runs" is a complicated hand in riichi mahjong: You can't score it if your pair is winds/dragons or if you have opened your hand. So his hand was actually completely worthless, and you're not allowed to win with a discarded tile. So when the opponent discarded the white dragon, that put him in temporary furiten since he wasn't allowed to declare a win with it. He needed to discard the white dragon and go for all simples, no matter what. The only thing you're wrong with is that it also comes up if you're in riichi: If your opponent discards a tile you could win off of and you choose not to declare the win, you're in furiten for the rest of the hand!
@louisaharkness97694 жыл бұрын

@stevenliang32134 жыл бұрын
@@louisaharkness9769 : Not quite correct He couldn’t have won with the white dragon because his hand has no yaku. The best yaku for his hand is tanyao (all simples) which means the hand consists of only 2 through 8 tiles. No dragons, winds, or terminal tiles (ones and nines). If he was waiting on a 2-8 tile like 5 circle or 8 bamboo, then he could win off of someone.
@FluffyDragonKitten4 жыл бұрын
Hey at 11:30 you wouldn't get "all runs" (Pinfu) because you had a pair of yakuhai (white dragons) which dont work with Pinfu. You can only have a pair of any tile thats not a dragon, seat wind or round win (honor tiles with no value) (and all runs obviously). Otherwise really enjoying your mahjong vids :)
