Ranking Every Rune in Diablo 2

Diablo 2 is built around the economy of runes. With 33 different types in total, everyone and their mother is running the Secret Cow Level to Lower Kurast, but instead of telling you where you should be wasting your time looking, I'm here to rank all the runes in Diablo 2 from the "Blizzard North Tier" all the way down to "Blizzard Entertainment".

Mal, Zod, Vex, Ko, and Fal are my favorites gfx. I hate the flame Tir, Bunny El, and weird woodling Eld runes. I also hate the Dol rune now.

I completely agree with the fact that runes ruining any version of build discussion we could be having. My first time playing d2 was predlc and to this day, outside of the fact that it was before the "skills getting boosts from other skills" patch, to this day still my favorite memory of the game, build wise. Being able to play just whatever I thought was cool with my dad. Then rune words. And its not fun not being able to do anything because the person you are playing with managed to get the batshit insane rune words and your internet isn't good enough to look up rune words yourself so were never able to make them and compete.

Well, D2R has all the chances to solve that problem with patches andnew content as we already got quite interesting patch note (and I am a bit underwhelmed with new quick cast system because it's not so flexible like in Dota where you can set up which skills will be quickcasted and with not)

While I disagree with a lot of these placements, maybe even most of them, here are the ones that I thought were worth correcting in a comment. Also, I merged tiers C and D because you don't need an "extra bad" tier here. 1. Ort Rune: S ↓ B. Extremely common, virtually useless past the early game. 2. Tal Rune: S ↓ A. Extremely common, but 3× can be cubed to Ral without any gems. Useless by itself past the early game. 3. Ral Rune: A ↑ S. Caster amulets, nuff said. 4. Ohm Rune: A ↑ S. Rare, staple, useful, benchmark rune. 5. Sol Rune: C ↑ A. Blood rings. Best use for rubies in the late game. 6. Cham Rune: C ↑ B. Extremely niche, extremely rare, frees up a ring slot for SoJ. 7. Hel Rune: D ↑ B. Limited usefulness, but the ability to reroll Spirits and Insights cannot be understated. 8. Amn Rune: A ↓ C. Even though it's useful for adding sockets with the cube, it's also extremely common. Aside from that, loved the video, had some good laughs.

I agree with everything but Hel rune. I need it to keep re-rolling my freiking spirit to get that 35fcr for the breakpoint. I've rolled it 48 times now, gotten 34 6 times, but never 35. More hels needed, and the only reason dol and chipped emeralds are useful, for more hels.

I think Hel is the rune that can clear sockets for you to reuse the item base... Maybe not enought to lift it up from the last tear, but still worth to mention. The rest of it is pretty much accurate, given the fact that D2 is a caster game... For example...Lem is actually good, the issue is that this is a "caster game"...Lem is useful in lawbringer and treachery which are staples of melee domains...treachery is also very decent in mercenaries..in my opinion besides Spirit and Peace, Treachery probably has one of the best cost/benefit ratios you can find in runewords. Another example is Pul also being good because it upgrades unique weapons from the second to the last tier... (again another thing that only melees care about...) "weapon damage?...What the hell is that?" - Says every caster in the game

In my modded version of D2 ive changed runes and gems Gems now give % bonus that increase with quality ie: in armor ruby gives 2%-3%-5%-6% life ie2: In weapon emerald gives 2-3-4-5-6% inc poison damage Runes are also improved ie: zod gives indest and self repair ie2: ral rune gives x fire damage/lvl

I ain't gonna go saying it's amazing, but since Oculus is the best Sorc item I had drop, I did give it to her now that I have started leveling her up. I'm always already teleporting away from stuff, so it rarely triggers the annoying tele and it gives me magic find. Guess I'll keep it till I get Tal Rasha's Lidless Eye and Ist to stick in it or something.

I love the occy, I have yet to die to the TP. The hate is understandable from a hardcore character Plus you can’t beat 80% MF, All res and 3 sorc skills. Lidless eye only has 1-2 each mastery, health and mana and the 4 pc bonus, (assuming you are using tal’s neck, chest and belt for MF) is very underwhelming. 10fcr and or -light/-fire resistance with lidless. If damage was your concern I would use occy until you get a deaths fathom or eschuta’s. Obviously if you are light/fire for ubers then tal rasha can be useful for bossing.
