Which Video Game Company Has Done The WORST Things: A Tournament

The Video Game Industry is full of companies that have a greater interest in your wallet than their employee's happiness, the consumer's happiness, or really the happiness of anyone or anything. And with the merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, I started wondering just how bad these businesses could get. So, I partnered 32 developers together in a tournament to determine which video game company has committed the most sins! Spoilers, there's a lot of competition for that.

I love the originality of your videos man. There's probably a million "Which game company is most evil" top ten videos out there, but pitting them in a tag-team tournament bracket is genius. Would love to see this format return, with the one suggestion of seeding the brackets and maybe balancing out the teams a bit instead of going full random.

Who's the worst? Beats me. The gaming industry as a whole has become one giant shitfest. My rule of thumb: the bigger they are, the more skeletons are piled up in their stinking basement. The indi part of the industry is more promising, but you never know what you get in the end. We got plenty of indi abandonware and games that got patched to shit after all. Time to watch the actual video. xD

My rule of thumb is to wait till an indie game gets a "workshop update" on Steam because usually by that point you know the game is gonna at least be worth your money.

90% of indie games are either horrendously mediocre or made by one guy in his basement

​@@Evarakeus Make it 99%. That's roughly the % of indi games on steam that never make it. And the remaining 1% are a wild mix made out of mediocre games and some true gems. The later being the one thing that keeps the indi side of things alive and well recieved. The sheer amount of indi games makes sure that those few gems can actually compete with AAA gaming. Not in terms of revenue (that's a pipedream), but in terms of playtime. Plenty of players spend most of their time with indi games that focus on being good games first, and revenue maybe later. EA and co wouldn't even think about making games like Stardew Valley, Factorio, Cuphead, Binding of Issac, Don't Starve, Hades, Among Us, Shovel Knight, Papers Please, etc. Indi games can't compete with open world games made by Ubishit, or Sports games made by EA. Well, at least in terms of scope/budget. But indi games can in fact make for a real good time. Without pre-ordering DLC infested, season-pass plagued, "surprise mechanic"-filled 70$ greedfests. Oh, and apparently good games can be made without higher ups that can't keep their hands of females and kids.

@@Blernster I'm not. I simply don't trust games based on their "branding" anymore. On the other hand if i want to buy a game and it has good user reviews AND appears like it's legit fun => i buy it. In short i don't buy hype, i buy already released games that have proven to their community that they deserve my money.

Ross Scott ( Accursed Farms) made a video about bad video game development practices, where he mentioned how they snatched the code for 'John Madden Football' while never paying the developers. XBL apart, as a publisher they seem to be pretty hands-off when it comes to messing the content of the games. And I remember that they dont have the habit of abandoning the games, they seem to support them with patches and whatnot.

During my research I couldn't find a ton of dirt, and nothing crazy bad, so I do agree with you. I must admit, I was surprised there was no really bad event they took part in lol.

I'm very much not surprised by the winning team, and I'm wondering if there was even just one combination of companies that could have beat EA alone. I would feel vindicated if not for the fact everybody already hates their stinking guts, as I've never forgiven them for killing Pandemic. I feel this list is actually measureably smaller because of EA. They killed so many studios that I can't help but feel they cut some people out before they could even do anything to become hated. Wow I really liked this one! Suprised "gamer gate" was never mentioned, but that era was so brain dead and before my conscious time I have no idea why people made up a phrase for it. Also I really like how you paired companies instead of the nomarl 1v1 because it actually made it interesting. And I have an idea for a video if you want to talk about the video game industry again: The biggest tradgey in the video game world. Basically what event had the highest peak and the highest fall (and maybe even foreshadowing)? An example could be pitting the accqusition of minecraft vs. no man's sky release. My vote still goes to Epic. EA while bad has done some good. They went back to Steam, added achievements to old games, and offered EA Play on Steam for $5/mo or $30/yr. EA Play is also included free in GamePass. The EA Play games usually have all DLC included meaning you really don't have to spend more than that sub fee.

Even though I'm a Nintendo fan but I am a respectful one I will agree with this video. While Nintendo did have its fair share of problems in the past and last year but on the bright side I'm just glad they're still family friendly and trying their best to get on top of it again. I mean they're not the best company but they're still a good company. Despite everything you've done in the past they're still pretty good. But the one thing I didn't like during the hate against them was people using Iwata's death as a weapon against the entire corporation in a disgusting and disturbing way that definitely disturbed a bunch of innocent people online. On the bright side though I'm just glad things are going back to normal with Nintendo slowly.

Yeah no doubt! I really love Nintendo, but their legal department is weighing down their good name. I really respect that they have favorable reviews from employees, and haven't been embroiled in controversies with sexual harassment or anything. The Japanese work culture crunch affects everyone, so it's not something I'd say Nintendo is doing bad for. Plus I feel mainline Nintendo games are truly still full of passion and creativity, so in most ways I like them. Wish they'd stop crushing poor modders though lol.

Grinding gear games would probably be the best gaming company out there, but was acquired by tencent in 2018. They still have a great record though, and only one game currently, but their business model and communication with the Poe fanbase is bar none.

I totally considered including them, but yeah I felt like it all fell to Tencent sucking. And Tencent wasn't included because they're not really a game company. I didn't really like parent companies, so I limited how much I wanted to include them.
