Summary of Uhud! Uhud- (Muslims intercepted Meccan caravan and got 50k dirhams (sareeyah of Qaradah) , quraysh were desperate and this led to uhud), 3k men from Quraysh and they took help from Kinana and Tihana). Abu Sufyan (main leader), Khalid Ibn Al Waleed (right plank) and Ikrima Ibn abi Jahl (left plank) were commanders. 2 dozen wives were taken (including Hind bint Utbah)to give incentive to Quraysh to fight. After Quraysh left Mecca, Abass sent his servant to Medina to give Muslims info on Quraysh army. When servant got to Kuba Muhammad saw was there with Ubaay Ibn Kaab he read letter then Muhammad saw said don’t tell anyone. Muhammad saw sent spies to confirm the news and it was confirmed. He met with Ansar leaders Saad Ibn Rabeeiah. Muhammad saw saw dream in Mecca where he struck his sword and it broke (this referred to Uhud) then he struck it again and it was in best condition (future victory of Muslims) and he saw cows (Shuhada of Uhud, cow is useful animal). On Friday he asked Sahabah what should he do, he narrated dream where he was wearing protective armor (which is Medina). He said we should stay in Medina and fight street to street (Ibn Sulul agreed). Younger Sahabah wanted to fight and not be in home like cowards. Muhammad saw agreed and older sahabah rebuked younger ones then Younger ones felt bad and Hamza went to Muhammad saw to say they changed their mind but Muhammad saw already had his armor on (can’t take it off once put on for prophet:Hadith Musnad Ahmad). They March out to Uhud and Ibn Sulul slowly retreats with his group of 300. Sahabah ask him why he’s leaving he says Muhammad saw listened to young kids and not me. Abdullah Ibn Amr bin Haram reminded Sulul to remember Allah and the treaty. Sulul said “if we knew there would actually be a fight we would follow Muhammad saw” (Allah quotes this 3:167)purpose of Uhud was to seperate believers from Hypocrates (3:166) Uhud is 30 min walk from Medina, on Saturday battle starts. Muhammad saw placed 50 of best archers on Jabal al Ruma. The army was protected by two mountains, only place for Quraysh to enter was from a small passage from the middle and Ruma was right in the middle of that passage so it was easy for archers to hit. The army would March in the small middle passage, (Quraysh having 3k now was useless since they couldn’t all March at once due to small space) Muhammad saw told archers “protect us with your arrows, even if birds eat our dead bodies do not move from your places until I send for you” Muhammad saw said “who will take my sword with its haqq and fight till it breaks”, Abu Dujana took it. Quraysh tried to seperate Ansar and Muhajiroon by saying they don’t want to fight Ansar, Ansar got furious. Abu Amir Al Rahib was a respected cheiftan/monk of Aus pre Islam. He disliked Islam so he left Medina and went to Mecca. He said to Abu Sufyan I will handle this since people respect me. During battle he went in front of Ansar and said “ O Ous I am Abu Amir Al Rahib”, before he could finish the Ansar said “no you are Abu Amir Al Fasiq” since he fled Islam. Abu Amir was shocked. In mubaraza Talha Ibn Talha from Banu Abd Dar came and fought Ali, Ali striked his leg then Talha’s aurah was shown he became desperate and Ali spared him. Initial attack of Muslims to Quraysh was powerful (they killed all 10 flag holders of Banu Abd dar), flag was down and Quraysh women started to flee, Muslims thought they won. Archers then were waiting for 30 minutes and saw other Muslims collecting booty. After arguing for what to do, they left their place to look for booty, Khalid Ibn Al Waleed saw this from the right of Jabal Ruma and he counterattacked. Muhammad saw was first to see Khalid and he screamed to the Muslims to take precaution. In the chaos, friendly fire occurred like Al Yaman father of Hudayfah (keeper of Secrets (sahibussihr) about munafiqs) was killed. Muhammad saw had 9 people around him, Saad Ibn Abi Waqqas and Talha Ibn Ubaydullah and 7 Ansar. Muhammad saw said “who wants to be my companion in paradise then go and fight then Talha volenteered but Muhammad saw refused for him to go, 7 Ansar all went and became shaheed. Then he fled and hid a cave. In battle he was injured three times, Utbah Ibn Abi Waqas threw stones at his face and injured his lips, an arrow also hit him by same person, entered his armour and into his jaws and his teeth (arrow was stuck), also Abdullah Ibn Qami’ah had short distanced sword attack but Talha reduced damage. Qatada Ibn Nu’man was protecting Muhammad saw and Qatadas eye was hit by arrow. Muhammad saw prayed may your eye be best eye then his eye healed. Musad Ibn Umayr who looked like Muhammad saw was killed so rumors spread that Muhammad saw was killed so this caused Quraysh to flee for good. Sahabah didn’t want to fight after hearing Muhammad saw was killed so they all sat sad. Anas Bin Nadhr said still fight and what is point of living if Muhammad saw is dead so let’s die with him, he went into battle field and died with over 80 wounds. (33:23). Kaab Ibn Malik exchanged armour with Muhammad saw so nobody could recognize Muhammad saw. When Quraysh fled, Abu Sufyan asked “Is Muhammad saw son of Abu Quhafah and son of Khattab dead” Muhammad saw didn’t respond then Abu Sufyan said “We have killed them all and won” Umar got mad and screamed “You lie we are alive” Abu Sufyan said “this is revenge for Badr”, then he said “exalted be Hubul” then Muhammad saw said for them to respond and praise Allah. Muhammad saw killed Ubaay Ibn Khalaf (brother of Ummayah), only person he ever killed. Ubayy said he will kill Muhammad saw to his face in Mecca but Muhammad saw said no I will kill you, he was killed with spear. Only 1 POW, Abu uzza who was POW at Badr but begged Muhammad saw to be let go cuz of his children he was let go for free. Then During Uhud Abu Sufyan told him that he should come join since Quraysh would obviously win he thought so he Joined, then after Uhud he was executed due to trechary. Quraysh thought about going back but Safwan said they are fuming with anger and a pagan came and confirmed it and told them to go away Uhud was a victory since Quraysh couldn’t achieve their goal: wipe out Medina and Islam, didn’t kill the prophet saw, and didnt re establish their caravan route. Ikrima Ibn abi jahl also thought it was a loss hence why he wanted to go back and fight Muslims.

Episode 46 - 50 Notes: Final Part (Started on EP46) Fun Trivia fact: The Battle of Uhud was Allah SWTs, way of removing the munafiqs that were in the midst of the noble companions. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAW using Uhud as the battleground, also meant that the Quraysh would be tired from walking a further distance after reaching Medina. Fun Trivia fact: Even the Quraysh have some honour and that is why they didn’t attack Medina, even though it was easily sackable due to the army being at Uhud. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAW knew that Umar RA and Uthman RA would die as martyrs. The Prophet SAW also knew that Aisha RA and Ali RA would have a civil war and also that some Muslims would kill his grandson Hussain RA. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAW forbade Muslimah’s from participating in battles and so no Muslimah’s fought in battles during the Seerah. However, there were instances of some Muslimah’s being nurses during. Also the Prophet SAW stated that the jihad of a woman is the Hajj. Fun Trivia fact: Jummah is a separate Salaah to Zuhur according to one view of the Hanbali Madhab. So they pray it before Zuhur. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAW stated that Allah SWT despises those who walk with arrogance and pride. Fun Trivia fact: Zubair Ibn Awwam RA was the first cousin of the Prophet SAW through Saffiyah RA who was the aunt of the Prophet SAW. Fun Trivia fact: Saffiyah RA and Hamza RA are blood siblings. Fun Trivia fact: Prior to the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet SAW gave his own sword to Abu Dujana RA. Abu Dujana RA used this sword in the battle to kill any Quraysh that he came across. In fact Abu Dujana RA almost killed Hind Bint Utbah during the battle but spared her as he did not want to dishonour the sword of the Prophet SAW. Fun Trivia fact: Even though swearing is impermissible in Islam. There are reports of the Sahabah RA using harsh language on the battlefield which shows that in certain times and places, its allowed. Fun Trivia fact: Hamza RA, Ali RA and Abu Dujana RA killed the most Quraysh at Uhud. Fun Trivia fact: No Angels were sent down to help the Muslims during the Battle of Uhud. Fun Trivia fact: Khalid Ibn Waleed RA was the only person to inflict a loss on the Muslims prior to his conversion. Fun Trivia fact: Most of the Seerah books state that Khalid and his entourage went around the mountains of Uhud in order to surprise attack the Muslims. But this does not make sense academically as it would have taken far too long. Fun Trivia fact: Hudhayfah Ibn Al Yaman RA was the secret keeper of the Prophet SAW Trivia fact: The father of Hudhayfah RA was one of those killed by Muslims accidentally during the battle of Uhud. Hudhayfah RA actually witnessed his father be killed during the battle and he forgave the Muslims who did it. The Prophet SAW actually paid Hudhayfah RA the blood money for his father’s death and Hudhayfah RA donated it all to the poor. Fun Trivia fact: Abu Talib and Mut’im Ibn Adi were the most noblest of the Quraysh, in terms of their political behaviour towards the Muslims. Fun Trivia fact: Mut’im Ibn Adi died prior to the Battle of Badr. Fun Trivia fact: The person that Aisha RA was originally engaged to be married to was Jubayr Ibn Mut’im RA. This was later cancelled mutually and Aisha RA was proposed to by the Prophet SAW. Fun Trivia fact: The Arabs would tell genealogy by looking at someone’s feet. Fun Trivia fact: Hind mutilating the corpse of Hamza RA was done out of pure revenge for the loss at Badr. Hamza RA was mutilated worse than anyone at Uhud. Fun Trivia fact: Despite the atrocities Hind, Wahshi and Jubayr committed. Allah SWT later guided all of them to Islam and all of their sins were forgiven. Fun Trivia fact: Mutilating dead bodies has been made forbidden in Islam. Fun Trivia fact: One of the other companions to be martyred at Uhud was Hanzala Ibn Abi Amir RA. On the morning of Uhud he was intimate with his wife and didn’t do ghusl. During the Battle of Uhud he was martyred and the Prophet SAW later had a dream of Hanzala RA being washed by Angels. Thus Hanzala RA earned the posthumous title of “Ghaseel Al Mala’ika” which means, the one cleansed by the Angels. Fun Trivia fact: Hanzala RA was married to the daughter of Abdullah Ibn Ubayy Ibn Salul, Jamila RA. Fun Trivia fact: The body of a Shaheed is not to be washed because it is believed that the blood of the Shaheed will be a witness for them on Qiyamah. Fun Trivia fact: The bodies of the Shaheed are not given any Janazah prayer. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAW stated that the real strength is in arrows. This is because of how deadly a volley of arrows can be. Fun Trivia fact: Two Angels were protecting the Prophet SAW in the Battle of Uhud according to Sa’d Ibn Abi Waqas RA in Sahih Bukhari. Yet, the Prophet SAW was still injured, which shows that those injuries were Qadar of Allah SWT. Fun Trivia fact: The Prophet SAWs mercy is incredible. Even when he was injured by the Quraysh, his biggest concern was the salvation of Quraysh. Fun Trivia fact: When the Prophet SAW was injured, he stated “How can any nation who attacks their Prophet ever be forgiven?” and Allah SWT later strongly rebuked the Prophet SAW for stating this, in Surah 3 Ayah 124. This clearly shows that Allah SWT has the final say and that mercy or wrath isn’t guaranteed unless he decrees it. Fun Trivia fact: Ubay Ibn Khalaf was the brother of Umayyah Ibn Khalaf and equally as vile as him towards the Muslims. He would insult the Prophet SAW and the Prophet SAW promised him, that he would end his life one day. Fun Trivia fact: Ubay Ibn Khalaf was the only person that the Prophet SAW ever killed with his own hands. Fun Trivia fact: Anyone who the Prophets AS of Allah SWT kill themselves, will suffer an extra punishment because they were killed by the Prophets. Fun Trivia fact: During the Battle of Badr, Abu Ubaidah Ibn Al Jarrah RA killed his own father, who was on the Quraysh’s army and Allah SWT revealed an ayah in the Qur’an about this. Fun Trivia fact: The Sahabah RA who died at Uhud were many to the extent where 3-4 of them would be buried in the same grave. Fun Trivia fact: Those Sahabah RA who knew the most Qur’an were buried first. Fun Trivia fact: Breaking your promises and oaths to people and Allah SWT is never allowed. Even if someone is treacherous to you. Treachery is not allowed in Islam ever, even in times of law. But, deceit is allowed against your enemies. Fun Trivia fact: Only one prisoner of war was caught at Uhud, he was Abu Uzza, and he was executed because he had been caught at Badr and released on the condition that he never would fight against the Muslims again. Fun Trivia fact: The most beloved names to Allah SWT are Abdul Rahman and Abdullah. Fun Trivia fact: Wailing at the deaths of people was made haram after the Battle of Uhud. Fun Trivia fact: Urwah RA is the mahram of Aisha RA and thus most of the hadith she narrated include him in the chains. Fun Trivia fact: Uthman RA was one of those who fled Uhud. Can someone please help me find something ? I heard it in one of the lectures around this but i can't find it. I've been trying to search for 3 days continuously. The Sheikh mentioned the story where the Prophet PBUH asked for only muslim volunteers to go on an expedition. So the volunteers gathered and left when a non-muslim came and asked to join the army but they asked him if he is Muslim, he said no. So he was told to return. This happened again and eventally he said he is muslim and he was allowed to join the army. I can't find the lecture and place where Sheikh Yasir Qadhi mentioned it.

Hey, I am a convert and wasn't raised around any kind of Islamic Culture; my question is: In the case of Aisha (RA) and her nephew being the main narrator of Hadith for her... How close of a relation does one have to be for a muslim woman to be free from wearing a Hijab and how does this apply to in-laws? Since Mecca was a tribal society and everybody was related to everybody if you go far enough back, what would the observance of this law look like in everyday life? Would observant women wear a hijab when out of the house, but not have to when inside of the home unless entertaining for a party or something? And would the specific owner of the house matter at all? For instance, If I I visit my brothers house with my wife, would his wife be okay without one in her home but would wear one if visiting outside of her home? I'm sure that there is a range in terms of strictness of ones observance and ones culture, but is there a difference between different Madhabbs with regards as how they define the observance of this practice? Thanks for any insights.

Benjamin Johnson First off , welcome back bro:) coz you are not a convert, a revert rather :) ohkay so you asked about hijab and covering. Ladies’ covering is from head to toe, except face and hands. Wearing loose clothes that are not shear fabric and figure revealing. They can uncover their hair and arms and stay more relaxed with clothes in presence of their fathers, brothers, husbands, father in laws and sons and nephews. Or boy kids who are so young that they don’t understand the feminine features yet. Other than that she should be covered in presence of all guys except stated above, regardless of which house she’s in. I hope you find my answer helpful. JAK

I dont understand one thing, what kind of war people fought at medieval time, 3000 vs 700. Yet the casualties are only 22 vs 70? What did they do? Just kill them or just injured them and spare? Im talking about both side. Why did the quraish ran away when they are 3000 and casualties only 22. And why also did the muslim ran away when they were 700 while 70 died, yet khalid ibn al walid was attacking with only 150. I really dont understand medieval wars. Huge army of 7000 or 8000 flee if only 30-50 people die
