Sarah I went to USJ solo back in September 2024! Couldn't wait for my friends to wake up early (got there before opening bc I heard you can enter Nintendo World without a timed entry) and it was such a fun experience. Tried the yakisoba as you did and took advantage of that single rider line. Was a little awkward waiting in line with a bunch of children in order to punch the ? boxes but hey, it is what it is!

I hit up USJ as a solo traveller in mid-November last year. I didn’t have any qualms beforehand about it, but the staff there were all super friendly (as they are everywhere!) and I had an amazing time that I’ll never forget. Having owned the original NES when I was younger and every Nintendo console since, the area is a must-see for fans of the games, and like you said - do not scrimp and get that timed entry ticket to guarantee admission to the area!

I went solo too back in April 2023. I had gotten a fast pass deal through Klook so I didn't have to rush in to get into the lottery. I've done USJ twice solo and it was fun each time. The advantage is the single person line that is way shorter. You can technically do it if you're with a friend but they might split you in a separate ride.. I can't wait to go back for the Dong Kong area.

I cant believe the random day I choose to go to USJ when I was over there, ended up being opening day. Hilariously I already had a 0900 express pass entry booked, so by the time I got in there, the place was virtually empty. By the time I was leaving it got crazy busy. The Holiday Gods were on my side that day.

Did you notice the little Picmin hiding everywhere? Are they still there or was is a special for the game release? I pointed them out to a japanese familiy as the child was curiously watching what I was taking a picture of. The family then started to try and find all/more of the Picmin and they wanted me to come along. Quite cute :) I enjoyed my time there as well. The biggest problem with solo-traveling is the awkward feeling. Once you get over that is it a lot of fun with a lot of advantages :)

Doing solo anything really depends on your mindset how you’d feel. I go to the cinema all the time on my own because I love movies and my girlfriend and friends do not want to see as many as I do. I never feel odd because I’m doing it out of choice. I’d feel fine going to a theme park on my own but I just don’t think it would be all that much fun, that’s just more enjoyable with friends.

I honestly had not a great time at USJ when I went there in November of last year. I showed up there around 6:30 or 7 am thinking that I was clever for showing up so early, but i had forgotten the japanese passion for queuing up, and had not in fact beaten the crowd. I enjoyed exploring the park and taking advantage of rides having a fairly short wait time because it was so early, and I was excited to see that I had won a pass to enter super nintendo world at 11:30 that's when it started going downhill. The place was incredibly packed, like almost unable to move it was so busy, and the lines for the rides were about 3 hours each, and the was no way I was waiting an indeterminate amount of time to have a meal I probably wouldn't like at toad's cafe (massive aversion to mushrooms which seems like every dish contained). I did the key events and bowser's castle which was fun enough, but i only had a buttered melon pan for breakfast before i got on the train so I was starving. I left the park and checked out the restaurants which also had massive lines and decided i'd go watch the parade down the main street and leave. It started to rain so the parade got shut down, despite it being like 30c or so. The sidewalks (because the road was closed for the parade) became a mass of people so dense it was impossible to move without actually squishing people. It took me half an hour just to get to the gates from where the enterence road splits off to the different parts of the park. I'll be in Osaka in june, and i was considering going again to try to have a better time (and actually get an express pass this time) but i'm still aprehensive.
