2:00 this one is my favorite because getting near arcade quality games at home felt like having an amusement park at the home. Mega Drive started bridging what was a huge gap between arcades and home consoles and the Dreamcast was finally able to to it near perfectly.
@kurtilingus2 жыл бұрын
I totally know that feeling of viewing great arcade boxes/titles like they were created by some ultra-advanced alien race due to their exotic high performance and proper "unobtanium" status for literally anyone w/o assloads of $ or loaded friends/parents. Sega captures that sentiment well in that ad, but they also tooootally oversold & underdelivered on the notion Genesis could faithfully recreate arcade-tier gameplay at home instead of the watered-down facsimiles tailored for its hardware. You''re spot-on about the DCast though as it was the first home console to truly reach arcade parity without the fucking obscene costs attached to it like the NeoGeo did. Btw DCast still looks phenomenal when properly upscaled on a modern HDTV & to the degree that it makes the PS2 look yuck imo
@epicon62 жыл бұрын
@@kurtilingus Yeah exactly. The arcade games at home marketing on the Mega Drive didn't bother me back in the day because the MD was still such a huge step up in graphics and features compared to the 8-Bit generation. It was comparable to stepping up from a 720p PS3 to a 4K PS5. And the quality of games in general went up because 7/10 i was kind of dissapointed in the games i bought for the Master System but on the Mega Drive i was happy with 9/10 games i got. And many arcade games were decent enough. Still when i was at the arcade i knew there was a pretty big difference. I noticed the biggest difference with Bonanza Bros because i had it on the Master System, Amiga 500 and Mega Drive and the arcade version looked almost life like it was much ahead of the home ports.

The 16 bit era of gaming was a wild ride, and in my opinion was the golden age of gaming. In my eyes the Genesis was the king of consoles from about 1989 to 1992, when it was finally contested by the SNES - making the greatest rivalry in gaming history. The experience of going from 8 bit games like Mario 2 to Revenge of Shinobi was like being transported to the future to a 5 year old kid in 1990.

To be honest games are a lot better now because of 3D tech. Sure playing 2D games is great too but when that is only choice then is a problem because the things you can do in 2D limit the possibilities of what a game can do. What i really miss from the old times is the simplicity of playing video games. No waiting for patches and bullshit or having to connect to servers to save or whatever. Just put the game in and play! that used to be the great benefit of consoles over PC and now they kind of lost it. Of course even worse now we have the whole micro transactions in games due to online which is the absolute worse. Online really ruined consoles. That is why to me the best system is the PS2. Amazing variety of games from 2D to 3D(and the first time 3D was decent enough) etc and the last generation of consoles that was still simply putting the game in and playing.
