This thing is amazing. I dare say its the same kind of First-party official quality as Nintendo and their classics. It feels good, plays good. All those nitpick issues are NOT noticeable unless you are looking for them. Turn it on and play, you will have fun. Retrobit 6 button works great too. Only issue is that its really light and the cables drag it around.

A Mortal Kombat game would have raised the rating to M. Sega wanted to get a T rating. An M rating would have affected sales. Many families bought the NES & Super NES Classic Editions.

One thing that was overlooked here is that when you change the languages, not only do you see the box art from that region. But you also get the version of the game from that region as well. For example, if you choose any euro language, Contra Hard Corps, becomes Probotector. If you choose Japanese, Hard Corps has 3 hit power bars and unlimited continues vs the 1 hit kill and limited continues that the western releases had. If the game had any changes because of region release, you can actually play those versions when you change language. That actually a HUGE factor that is very cool. And as far as I know, no other mini console did that.

Mortal kombat sonic 3 and knuckles aladian lion king tmnt hyperstone heist golden axe 2 and 3 and streets of rage 1 and 3 earth worm gym 2 vector man 2 and they needed a couple more racing games

Outrun 2019 would have been a homerun imo. Original Outrun is a great port too. Afterburner and outrun I think both have licensing issues, but outrun 2019 is "futuristic" haha

I was also surprised this wasn't hard to get. I got it on release day and no one else was even there to pick one up. Unlike the SNES Mini, where I waited in line since 4 AM - 8 AM to get one.

Fun fact, the Genesis mini has 6 RPGs while the Snes mini only has 4. 21 games on the Snes mini was not enough. No Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country 2-3. But the Genesis mini also lack Sonic 3 & Knuckle.

Thank goodness Sega did this product right by working with M2 and Yuzo Koshiro to do the medleys in the console. Wonder if they'll ever do a Sega CD and 32 x proper expansion aside from the fake plastic ones they released in Japan? I assume no, but still, would be cool. Great selection of games here! I wonder if Sonic 3, is missing because of the MJ link?

I love the system so far i honestly wasn't going to buy it because i thought them not putting the 6 button controllers in was bs but honestly it hasnt bothered me at all playing any of the games and I'm happy with them

What would have been really clever would have been to have mini ports on the bottom and in the cart slot. Instead of having "DLC" that you'd download for a pack of extra games, SEGA would release a mini 32X attachment and a mini SEGA CD attachment. Each simply being storage devices that holds a collection of their respective hardware's games.

Great job J. I think I've watched most of the reviews of the SG mini and not everyone feels the emulation is accurate enough, but love the product aside from the 3 button controllers. It's good to see you mention supporting this product. SEGA did more than the typical mini route we've come to expect. Gunstar Heroes, Castlevania BL and World of Illusion are great examples of them digging deeper than just first party.

I wish nintendo and Sega would have added an online storefront to these minis. We’ve reached a point, where i believe the big three could offer an option to their current gen consoles that play retro games and allows Indy developers or even modern publishers to support legacy consoles with new games in hd. Sure this already exists, with emulation and 3rd parties but if nintendo and Sega rereleased their consoles that played all of our old games and had an online store, i have a feeling they would sell really well and give people like who still have all their old games and original crt a reason to get rid of them.

Thanks for the review man. I personally think they needed to add Desert Strike or Jungle Strike, Sports games [mutant league football], and they would appealed to more people with MK II or 3 on there. Surprised you didn't mention the sound issue many people report a lag. Very noticeable. Sad they didn't get it 100% right.

@@Earths1stgamer Believe it or not, there's a large fan base that preferred Street Fighter Turbo over Super. Back when Street Fighter 2 was in arcades, Super was the first upgrade that got a lot of criticism from fans.

In my opinion, I think the reason that minis don't come with power bricks is that the manufacturers are assuming that you would be powering them from the USB port on your TV. At least that is what I would do. I mean it makes sense. TVs have USB ports and it would be one less thing to plug into the wall.

I was twelve when i got the 2nd version of the Sega genesis. The games i had for it were mortal kombat 3, sonic the hedgehog 2 and sonic spinball. And before you say anything, john, yes, i know this is the mini version of the genesis 1. I'm just sharing my memories of when i had the original genesis 2

This would be great for nostalgia purposes and I will get one when its around $50. I have all the other mini's including the Neo Geo mini which I love, I have the Super Retrocade and have all the NA genesis roms so for me this isnt worth it minus the nostalgia feel to it. At games if you get one that works lol is better i dont care what anyone says it has a cart receiver and 2 wireless controllers that are good not infa red like you hear on other You Tube channels also an SD slot on board to download and it has standard jacks (not usb) for hooking up any OEM 9 pin controller i think its cheaper also so why buy this? Nostalgia thats it a collectable good video you do great reviews i always liked your reviews ✌🏻️

Anyone have any clue how well these Genesis Minis are selling? My local Walmart still has many in stock so I’m not sure if that means Walmart ordered a healthy supply or if these are just not selling very well.

There’s an accessories called “Sega Genesis/Mega Drive tower” with a Sonic 1 cartridge, Sonic and Knuckles lock on cartridge, 32x and fake Sega CD which they’re exclusive to Japan especially the 42 fake cartridge

Sound is slightly off, lag is noticeable too, on some games. Stick with a PI might be the best route. Good to find reviews that focus on these two giant issues since emulators came out.

Still havent owned one yet, but i will!! Like i did with NES and SNES classics im gonna own each country editions. Like ill buy the 🇺🇸, 🇯🇵, and 🇬🇧 edition.... Im going in!! Buy the way great selection of games but doesnt include Battlemania 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Hyperstone Heist TMNT, Valis 3, MK, MK2, and MK3, Streets of Rage, Vapor Trail, Spiderman Separation Anxiety, Maximum Carnage, Dynamite Duke, Mega Turrican, and i can go on... Lol but im sure i can hack it and add those games, but im really happy they included Castlevania Bloodlines :)

They all seem to be outdoing each other, I will, no doubt, wait for a price drop for the Sega mini, however I am definitely keeping an eye on the release of the Turbo Grafix mini, am if companies continue this trend in games, I really believe a Halo edition original Xbox mini, mini PS2 & Dreamcast mini would look awesome together on my shelf.

SEGA doesn't own the Moonwalker IP anymore. Sony does. The Sonic 3 OST is owned by MJJ Productions. MJ's Composers want publishing and royalty rights.

Couple things. Ghouls and Ghosts was not ported to SNes. A port would mean the same game. The Snes SUper Ghouls and Ghosts is completely different, levela sand controls. Also there will never be a sega CD mini unfortunately. They shouldhave added sonic CD on here at least too. And there is no excuse for not including at LEAST one 6 button controller for street fighter 2. Total BS.

Most of the games kinda suck. The only game I care about is Streets of Rage 2. The version of Street Fighter 2 isn't even a very good version of Street Fighter (Although I'm sure it's accurate to what the game was).
