@prismaticpaul
@prismaticpaul Жыл бұрын
@@novascotianinfj I only figured that out once i got far enough into the campaign 1. The blue one can also get to level 4! It's the same evolution though, the king dragon. There's also one more level 4 monster, the taitan, starting from a warrior. Getting one of those feels so amazing. That, and when the elemental forces lose half their health while the level 4 dragon is barely scratched.

Hitoshi Sakimoto didn't compose for this game, he just handled the programming with his sound driver. This is 100% Hayato Matsuo.
@alexisynthfm1988
@alexisynthfm1988 2 жыл бұрын
But, Sakimoto was in charge of bringing all of Matsuo's music to the MD hardware, so he does count as a composer since he will have made some arrangements there apart from programming the driver.

@@alexisynthfm1988 That makes Sakimoto an arranger, not a composer. Those terms aren't interchangeable. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_composition en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrangement

@alexisynthfm1988 2 жыл бұрын
@@ragnarokangaroo I thank you for your observation, but they always credit the arranger as the composer on every game soundtrack recording for some strange reason, if they are not interchangeable terms, anyway Sakimoto did get involved in music as a sound programmer and arranger, I also get the impression that he could have composed one or another theme because the style varies quite a bit throughout the soundtrack.
@ragnarokangaroo
@ragnarokangaroo 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexisynthfm1988 Credits you find online aren't always properly sourced. The actual in-game credits list Matsuo and YmoH.S (pseudonym of Sakimoto) under "sound" which doesn't tell you much about who did what. I'm guessing someone saw that, knew Matsuo was a composer, and assumed Sakimoto had the same role even though there's nothing concrete to suggest that. Meanwhile the official soundtrack album released in Japan by Toshiba EMI explicitly lists Matsuo as the only composer with YmoH.S (aka Sakimoto) buried in special thanks. Haruhisa "hally" Tanaka, a chiptune expert and journalist who has produced, engineered, and written liner notes for dozens of retro vgm albums and one of the key people behind Diggin' in the Carts, corroborated in one of his album guides that Matsuo was composer under Koichi Sugiyama's guidance with Sakimoto as sound programmer and arranger. Maybe the diversity in style is from the influence of Sugiyama, but it's the job of a game composer to be able to write in an eclectic array of styles to suit the various scenes in a game.

+TheLegendofRenegade He likes to use a lot of detuning; if you play the same note with the same instrument in two channels and slightly change the pitch of one or both it creates the effect heard on the bass in a lot of tracks here. You can also use different vibrato speed and depth on the two channels, for a sort of flanger effect.

This soundtrack blows me away, it's so melancholy and sorrowful, yet powerful at the same time. Easily one of the best scores on the Gen/MD. Too bad not enough people have heard of this game. Too many of the Gens best soundtracks are on games few ppl have played (Gauntlet IV, Devilish etc), meanwhile everyone's played the American "Gems" developed games which barring exceptions usually have terrible sound and...thus the myth continues.

One of the best videogame soundtracks ever made. I like the highlight tracks as much as the next guy, but I prefer listening to the entire soundtrack as a whole piece, as it follows a really nice emotional journey. About time to obtain and play the game too...I did not grow up playing this game like many of you did. I had a Master System as my parents thought the Mega Drive games where far to violent and detailed...for me, those where the 2 main selling points!. There was some vendetta against violent kids entertainment growing up in Sweden...I remember even the word Ninja getting banned. Which made it so much more interesting to find and enjoy violent VHS movies and video games. :)

19:07 "Standing in the White Fortress"... Just wow. Such a shame it was essentially lost in such a relatively obscure game that most have never played, (myself included). Had this track been placed at the right point in the story arc of some popular RPG, I'm sure it would have people weeping. Just beautiful.
@UndyingZombie
@UndyingZombie 3 жыл бұрын
It was not obscure back when it was still being sold and rented. My brother way back then bought me the game ( hes 15 years older ) when I was a kid. At the time he worked as a manager for several stores that sold and rented out console games, movies, ect. It was one of the titles that in every store he worked at would be completely out the majority of the time. Its one of the best games on Genesis. Its upsetting that the only other Masters of Monsters that was released in the west was on PS1... And it was not really that good.. More so if you compare the two.. Its a IP that.. In my opinion.. Deserves to get re-released. What I mean by that.. Have a sort of 3 games in one pack. The original with the only things changed would be updating everything to actually work on the current systems and resolutions. A online multiplayer mode, better save system with more save slots, and a map editor. 2end in the pack would be the same exact thing mentioned before but with updated GFX, and sound. Also more campaign masters to play as. ( Not a get to chose who you play as but have the same campaign rout as the original two. But fully new ones.. and of course the maps to be available in the non campaign games. ) Then the 3rd would be everything above + new masters, new monsters, alternative upgrade/morph choices making a even bigger variety of monsters. New tile types, new spells, and perhaps even upgrade/morph for the masters as well. ( And elemental spells. Cant forget those things. ) Reason why I would want that sort of setup.. 1. Allows you to play the original with no changes. 2. Allows you to play the same game as the original but with updated gfx and sound.It also allowing for more stuff without any really big changes. 3rd one being of course the one that changes the most but hopefully in a good way. I would probably give several other games the same treatment if I was ever able to do these things.. Like Shining Force 1+2... Bunch of other games as well of course. ( Like D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun.. Buck Rodgers, Dark Sun Wake of the Ravager and Dark Sun Shattered Lands )
