I run through this game at least once every couple years through rom emulation and YES I do own the original copy! I have Owned this game since the early 90's. I think my parents got it from Funco Land. Who remembers that store?

Hardest Sega Genesis game I've ever played (and I've seen Battletoads). The box should have said "With Target Earth, the power to LOSE is in your hands!" and lose you will.

Good ear! Both games use the "Goblin Sound/Opus" sound driver, which has very distinctive PSG drums!

Even Motoi Sakuraba’s very early works for the Genesis / Mega Drive used PSG for percussion. This was up ‘til, I think, “Arcus Odyssey” that percussion samples (complete with the signature handclap sample) were eventually used from there onwards. “Final Zone” and “Zan: Yasha Enbukyoku” were the only games to my knowledge that did that.

One of the few games where I think games inspired by it (Night Slave on the PC-98 in this case) are significantly better than the original. Still a pretty sweet soundtrack though. Thanks for the upload!

I played through the PS4 remake in Classic Mode (with original BGM) and these 1990 masterpieces really came to life with 2015 graphics. Classic Mega Drive soundtrack, but the PS4 remake truly obliterates the original 1990 game.

Almost everything about the remake was better, except the music. The original was still so much better by far. Also i never beat the original without cheating. Plug in two controllers and during the intro to the first stage press start on controller 2 and hold it till u can control one of the bad guys. Then u are invulnerable. Then make sure u only destroy the battleship at the end of the first stage and get everything. Was fun.

I remember walking to the mom and pops video game rental store returning this game and telling the clerk I beat it. He looked at me with a “you are lying and not fooling me” stare, and I replied with, “I used the cheat code” and then he smiled as he felt vindicated. This is one of the hardest game I’ve ever played, and I beat Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man 1 on the NES without cheating
