Well, Sega didn't make any of these outside of Phantasy Star and Shining Force, but I know what you meant. Also, the majority of the actual RPG's listed here are Chinese exclusives, not Japanese. Japan didn't get too many more RPG's on the console then we did, although they did get a *few* more. It's pretty bizarre to think that most of them are Chinese exclusives, because when does that ever happen? I know they make a lot of bootlegs for dead systems that are exclusive to the region, but these were *official* titles released during the lifespan of the console. I should also mention that this guy missed Chiki Chiki Boys, a game very similar to the Monster World games that should have been included in the action/adventure section. It's suppose to be very good, and it actually got a western release.

Regardless if they are 1st or 2nd party, they are all Sega games.
@JMFSpike4 жыл бұрын
@@avideogamemaster They are not developed by Sega. Sega may have published some of them, but that is a completely different thing. They are Sega games in the sense that they are on a Sega console, nothing more. That's what I was getting at.
@avideogamemaster4 жыл бұрын
@@JMFSpike Nope, that is completely wrong. If Sega published the game, they own it. They payed money for the game to be made. All games were developed under Sega's contract. Using your logic is the same as saying Microsoft owns Donkey Kong now, because Rare made the Donkey Kong Country games and a couple more, and Rare was bought by Microsoft. That is not the case, Nintendo own the games and the franchise, they just hired Rare to make for them. All these Sega games belong to Sega, with a couple franchises not actually owned by them (such as D&D and Shadowrun), but they still own the game itself. Besides, there are a few "in-house" games there (Rent A Hero, Surging Aura, King Colossus). Rent a Hero was even made by Yu Suzuki, one of the main heads of Sega at that time LOL.

Trivia: Sorcerian is actually the subtitle so to say, " _Dragon Slayer V: Sorcerian_ " is what it's lesser known as, as it is a part of the Dragon Slayer series. The very same series that one can say that Adol Christin was inspired by as a child ( _in-universe_ ) to become the red headed adventurer we know him today as ( _Ys series_ ).

The first Legend of Heroes game (Dragon Slayer is actually the series its a subseries of, not to go into detail) is actually available in English on the Turbografx-CD, subpar dub, but I find it kind of charming. I do like the MegaDrive and PC88/98 versions' chunkier graphics myself, however. Please enjoy, it's a hidden gem despite sticking very close to classic Dragon Quest-style tradition. Its sequel hasn't been translated yet, sadly, though I also like it (it's way harder, though).

First of all, I must say that this is a fantastic list overall. I think you got every Genesis rpg in here for sure, and from every region of the world. I believe you meant to call your action/adventure section action/rpg, but you did actually have a few action/adventure games in there, so I'm a bit confused. That particular section also had a few games that should have been in your simulation/other section, which really should have been called simulation/strategy. But category issues aside, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone wondering what all rpgs the Genesis had on it.

Phantasy Star 2 was by far the best due to the high level of monster difficulty and hard to navigate buildings. Big problem with Phantasy Star 2 is that you can have a high experience level and still hardly put a dent on a monster or robot. Even Dark Force was hard to beat.

Fun Fact: Braver Battle Saga is a bootleg game that reuses graphics from Romancing SaGa 3, such as the fairy village and the holy temple's entrance. Yeah, a game with Saga in the title reuses graphics from a SaGa game, crazy huh? Well, even more crazy is the reuse of Kefka's sprites, no joke they just reuse his sprites for a character. Tu Shi Tian Di, Wu Kong Wai Shuan, Ya Se Chuan Shuo and Beggar Prince (I ain't typing the chinese name, fuck off) are also unlicensed and made by similar creators, though they remain untranslated.

So many Japanese games I'd love to play. Really wish there were translation speedrunners like there use to be. If you're smart enough to play an RPG then you're smart enough to play a badly translated game that's maybe only half translated but still know what's going on and what to do. Like if you're translating menus and stats and all that, most stuff in there is obvious to a player even if it is Japanese text. Instead translate parts an english speaker wouldn't get then stop work on menus and focus your time on rushing through some other aspect of the game. Once the game is out in a playable 0.01 version, you can go back and clean things up for the next patch. Like a while ago I finish that game there called Star Odyssey. I played an old translation that was very primitive but was just fine. Dialogue was short and very to the point in a broken english sort of way. Later I found a new translation of the same game and tried it. The new one was just too wordy. Old translations get a point across in one short sentence, while more polished translations use several paragraphs to make the same point. It's a waste of time, in my opinion. I would be satisfied if there was a translator out there who just black out dialogue boxes entirely. You talk to an NPC, an ugly black box pops up on screen, and the text written is the most basic font, an the most rushed dialogue. Speedwrite it. Just get it done. Spelling and grammar mistakes? As a NES fanboy, even officially translated games that we got back in the day were filled with those. Then when you speedtranslate other games, use the same method. Same black box, same basic text, speed is key. You go fast enough you can translate any RPG on this list in less than a month, instead of the usual time which is several years. I mean, a while ago I played a game for Amiga called Evil's Doom. Recommended if you like dungeon crawlers. But the amount of spelling errors and grammar mistakes on every page is absolutely absurd. Just go play it. I mean, every single sentence in the entire game, and I mean every sentence, has at least one mistake. No, at least two mistakes. But I played it just fine. No confusion from me. In fact, broken english has an otherworldly, alien feel to it, like you really are being transported somewhere else. Another thing I always wished for were bilingual KZbinrs who could just longplay Japanese language RPGs but speak the words out loud in english. Never watched a longplay in my life but I'd watch that. I'd also like to see more 3-D games translated. My advice for that is not even bother with audio. That slows the process down too much. Subtitles are more than fine. Voice acting usually sucks which is why undubs are popular now, so it might be a plus to just scrap any voice acting.
@CrudeDude3 жыл бұрын
Translation is always a complicated point, especially of the Japanese language because of all cultural particularities. I believe that many translations are done with the help of Google Translator and things like that, if the person does not master both languages, hardly be able to do a good translation.

I don't see why a star trek setting or even a western setting wouldn't work with wots engine.
