Sega Model 2 - LaunchBox Tutorial

For those of you struggling with getting Sega Rally working with an analogue controller make sure you have the steering, acceleration and brake boxes all checked in the control configuration And make sure they are set to the following Steering - Analogue Joy1 x axis Acceleration - Analogue joy1 x axis (invert) Break - Analogue Joy1 Z axis This will give for the right trigger as accelerator, left trigger as break and left analogue stick as steering, all just like a modern racing game, unfortunately it is quite sensitive and there isn’t a way you can set manual gears to shift up and down (because the arcade game has sequential shifting) so you have to use automatic

Great vid as always. Im just now starting to set up games so launchbox may come later. Going to be a full pc racing unit in an old Rush 2049 cab. Hopefully getting original hardware working with a uhid. Do you have any driving cab tutorial videos? There's a LOT going on and any help is grealy appreciated.

Thank you for all your videos. IMHO to keep Launchbox portable it's better to have the ROM folder win the emulator.exe folder as Dir1:D:\... on this install can be Dir1:H:\... on another PC.

Mame only has two Model 2 games that are playable if I remember right.

this worked well but the second lightgun does not work. It reads it the same as the 1st light gun. anyone know how to add a second light gun? both work in mame.

When I try to run things in full screen, I get a black screen with FAILED 8876086C. D3DFMT 22 DEPTH 75 and then it closes the emulator. Any ideas?

Big Box naturally takes on the orientation of Windows. Set windows to the orientation that your screen physically is and you'll see Big Box do the same.

I guess you have to do the service menu stuff for every rom you launch the first time?

Each ROM does seem to contain all different versions and regions of the game. The defaults are usually specific to Japan. You would only need to go into the service menu if you are wanting to adjust the defaults to your liking, and any changes you make do save.

First off, nice tutorial! However, when I boot up M2, it shows multiple different versions of each gome ( i.e. - Daytona has quite a few versions ). However, only one version shows up after the LaunchBox import. What incantation of the import will make the different versions show up? I suspect i need to untick the "Combine ROMS with matching titles into a single game"...but thought I'd check here first.

The worst part m2 is having to start each game to setup controls for each game. Other option is command prompt script that will setup all controls but is kinda crude. Idk I wish there was a more user friendly and updated m2 and m3 emulator available. It's been years and to my knowledge these are the only ones that work or exists at all which is surprising.

Yeah it would be nice but before those features arrive (if they arrive) you should think of them as separate arcade cabinets. It's much harder to setup a new game into an arcade cabinet than it is for you to just set up the controls each time.

Model 3 does have a very good button configuration these days, (unlike the nightmare of the old version from 2012) it looks a bit like a command prompt screen where you press the button to what you want it to do (the best kind of button configuration) and you just have to do this as a one off and save it,

You can use a program called antimicro ; map the esc key to your controller in the program and save a profile. In launchbox set the program to start before the game. You will also need a .ahk (auto hotkey) script to close antimicro when the esc key is pressed to. You can set that in launchbox to start after the game.

I am unable to get this tutorial to work. Whenever you launch EMULATOR.exe -> "The code execution cannot proceed because d3dx9_42.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem. How is this issue resolved?

Thank you. That was the trick. I had to reinstall DirectX
