F-Zero GX (Gamecube) was built on an enhanced proprietary engine that was used to create Monkey Ball. It was then 'updated' to become F-Zero AX (Arcade) which was built on the Triforce hardware (2003 to 2004), which was based on the Gamecube hardware. Sega Race TV was built on the Lindbergh hardware (2005 to 2008). You have to use the word "engine" loosely when it comes to most arcade games because arcade games are not exactly built using engines, but built at the hardware (system) level. So F-Zero GX and AX would definitely have similarities with Sega Race TV as the TriForce and Lindbergh systems were very close to each other, but they are also technically different architecture which means F-Zero GX/AX and Sega Race TV are built on different "engines". Triforce was built mainly for Nintendo's Arcade racers (F-Zero AX, Mario Kart GP and GP 2) but Lindbergh was 100% for Sega arcade games.

Always happy to see Sega Race TV get some love. I had the good fortune of being able to play this at an arcade back when I was visiting Florida, and was forever tormented by the lack of a home port since then, lol. Sadly I don't remember the exact location, and it may very well be gone by now since my last visit was back in the 2010s. I love the big, over-the-top scenery. It gives off a lot of 'all stars' vibes. I wish I could find more sega units in arcades. I just got back from a vacation where I visited 10+ arcades looking for racers, and only found a single sega unit--a nice ATV game that blew air at me when I boosted--which was a nice little touch.

I too never understood why this game never got ported to any home consoles. It didn't even come out to any of the Yakuza games to one of their SEGA arcades. There are a few car manufacturer brands that would either have to be relicensed, or reworked w/more generic car models.

I would pay $70 in a heartbeat for a port of Sega Race TV to consoles. I've been wanting to play this game for years and haven't seen it in an arcade anywhere. This was the only significant Sega Lindbergh game that didn't come to PS3. VF5, Virtua Tennis 3, House of the Dead 4, After Burner Climax and even the Initial D Lindbergh game all had PS3 releases. The quality bar of racing games on the PS3 and Xbox 360 was set quite high from the beginning, so that could be a reason why Race TV was left out. It doesn't look nearly as good by 2008 standards, as Outrun 2 looked in 2003/2004.

great game, i think was a incredible game for xbox live arcade in 360, but it was never ported, like hummer and r-tuned. In a local arcade have a hummer cabinet, but i never played, lol. And a road's edge! i hope some day i buy the things in the supermarket next to this place and play some credits. I buyed in this place an empty cruis'n exotica cabinet, the dude that do the maintenance saw me take a couple of pictures of the road's edge and he was mad! but was a cool dude and show me the cabinet in really good condition, and really cheap. That arcade place is called crucijuegos and now make games for squares, they do the slides and swings for the messi's kids.

Honestly, the game also has a bit of F-Zero mixed in! Some of its visuals look right out of F-Zero GX/AX and it has boost pads on the ground, and even the strips that refill your boost! F-Zero for liiiiiiffe! 🤘

The stress I had getting this game to work the first time I tried it caused me to pay for a TP license to see if that would help. I've since played it a ton and plan to make a wheel setup to play it instead of using a controller.

Any chance we can get a hint for an emulator and roms? I'm deep into emulation but I haven't heard that a Lindbergh Emulator was done. It's strange cause it's so close to PC and the Lindbergh is a PC refactored....anyone has any hints (links)?

I see plenty of actual cars in this racer, maybe that's one of the reasons it hasn't been ported? I know Scud Race is stuck in limbo because it would need several licenses, the key one being the Ferrari license for the F40 in that game.

Very interesting, unquestionably based on the outrun 2 development. My only issue with the game is that it visually feels slow. The cars seem to small for the environment. I actually wonder had they made it slightly more cartoon would it have been a better alternative to Sonic Racing games

Sadly like any of Sega's other racing games with real life cars, locations or sponsorships like SCUD Race, Sega Rally and Sega Touring Car, I don't see this getting a rerelease in the near future due to the licensing hell it could be. It's unlike Daytona 2 in the recent Yakuza Gaiden where they could just replace the title screen and be good to go.
