This week I finally mod my PAL Sega Saturn by adding a 50Hz / 60 Switch. I didn't want to risk damage by having to lift a pin on the graphic chip but luckily there was another safer way to doing the job.

Thanks for watching! So glad I stumbled across this much safer way to mod a Saturn for 60Hz. One thing to note: I have been informed that the EU version of Virtua Fighter 2 which I am testing here is PAL optimised which is why there is over scan. I do like that it plays quicker though lol. Next I need to pick up an action replay so I can play imports and maybe a Phantom Modchip.

Thanks so much, managed to strip the solder pads from the shared point of JP1/2, but with a few extra wires it works perfectly!

Unfortunately, nothing happens on my VA9. Is there anything I could be doing wrong? I checked again that the tracer is well cut You made a step in the middle with the multimeter in JP1 and JP2. Was it to check some connection? Hoping for your help

SMPS's usually have a 400v capacitor which could still give you a nasty shock even when the psu is unplugged so might be worth putting in a disclaimer somewhere just to be on the safe side. Keep up the great work!

Just want to thank you for this video. I followed your instructions and was able to successfully mod my own VA9 Saturn :) just some advice for those who want to attempt this mod: 1) Pre-tinning your wires is the key to success 2) Use a magnifying glass to check that the trace cut and connections are correct, and not shorting anything 3) Use some electrical tape to help neatly guide the wires across the bottom of the motherboard, where they come out of the expansion port

Thank you it worked perfectly on my VA9 console! It's a quite easy mod. One suggestion, you can cover the exposed cut trace with solder mask to avoid corrosion on that area.

Hi, if we use Pseudo Kai and cd-rs with NTSC games, PAL Saturns will run the games at 60Hz?

My first one I got last year I decided on the M1 because access light lol. Do these do the nifty fade-out on the green power light on power-off?

No LED mods with this one, just a basic mod chip.

The back of my PAL saturn already says 50/60Hz on the back. Does this mean i don't need to mod it or does it depend solely on the game you're running at the moment?

Could you show how you cut the trace and test connectivity from a differente angle? Your hand is blocking the view.

Sorry about the angle. I did describe in detail which trace it was and where to find it. You can just test both ends of the cut to make sure there is no continuity. If you want a better angle, check out GadgetUK164's video that I have linked in the description. :)

If I wanted to turn the saturn in a NTSC console permanently without a switch, what should I do?

It’s not recommended but I guess instead of a switch you can just permanently connect the relevant connections instead.
