Two puzzle game juggernauts collide as Tetris®, one of the largest-selling and recognized brands in gaming history, and Puyo Puyo™ from SEGA have combined to create a fun-to-play, fast-paced, competitive party game like no other! Coming to retailers in the Americas (April 25) and Europe (April 28) on PlayStation®4 and Nintendo Switch™, the game offers tons of gameplay styles - from single-player Adventure and Challenge modes to ferocious competition with up-to-four player Arcade modes, for tons of Tetris/Puyo variety. Plus, an in-game Shop enables players to unlock new characters and skins for Puyos and Tetriminos.
Here’s a quick rundown of all the different ways to play:
Adventure- Single-player mode offers ten unique acts, each with ten stages featuring different characters from the Puyo Puyo and Tetris universes. Each stage contains unique challenges players will need to overcome in order to win and move on!
Multiplayer Arcade - For up to four local players, Multiplayer Arcade offers a wealth of game variants that will bring out players’ competitive nature!
• Versus - Players compete head-to-head in either Puyo Puyo or Tetris to fight in the puzzle fight of their life.
• Swap - Players’ abilities are put to the ultimate test when they compete on both Puyo Puyo and Tetris boards, which switch back and forth at set intervals.
• Fusion - A true hybrid game where players compete with Puyos and Tetriminos together on the same board, requiring deft, on-the-fly thinking to become victorious.
• Big Bang - It’s a race to the finish as players compete against each other to clear unique challenge boards as quickly as possible to win.
• Party - Players compete on Puyo or Tetris boards, but the puzzles feature special items that when activated either help players or harm their opponents.
Online - Players can try their puzzle skills on a global scale by playing any of the multiplayer modes with up to four players online in Puzzle League or Free Play modes
• Puzzle League - Increase player rating, earn ranks and aspire to new leagues in this mode for competitive enthusiasts.
• Free Play - A more casual experience where records aren't kept and players can customize matches with unique settings, and invite their friends to play.
• Replays - Players can save and upload any online matches to show off to their friends, or search other players’ replays using the tag and filtering system to see how they tackle matches.
Solo Arcade - Play any of the Multiplayer Arcade modes against the CPU in Battle or Endurance matches, or try single-player challenges:
• Battle - Substitute human players with 1-3 CPU opponents to fight against simultaneously.
• Endurance - Go the distance in a one-on-one gauntlet of never-ending CPU opponents, racking up as many wins as possible.
• Challenge - Forget about the opponents and put skills to the test with Sprint, Marathon and more, like the quirky Tiny Puyo, which shrinks down Puyos to fit even more on the board.

Playing through the story mode was my wakeup call that told me "doing Back-to-Backs isn't going to save you." These tutorials are teaching me a LOT even though I've literally played Tetris since I was a kid. XD

I gotta say, after viewing the first batch of tutorials on Puyo Puyo I decided to look up more advanced Tetris topics on my own, namely T-Spin guides and setups. Didn't expect to see another set focusing on Tetris, but it's definitely helpful with this curated guide in video form being easy to digest compared to text guides. I guess S2LSOFTENER also knows some Tetris which is good to know seeing some of his own skilled gameplay footage.

You have to play your respective game quite differently depending on which game your opponent is playing. And both games are so deep. I love it. I suck at Fusion Mode though. lol Takes a lot of practice.

Seriously. Solo marathoning is pretty easy on regular Tetris and it makes you feel like a badass when you last 10 minutes or more and beat a previous high score, but Tetris Battles and Puyo are completely different beasts from casual Tetris.

When starting the creation of a 4-wide always try to start with an s or z-piece (like at 2:43) as this gives you the most options at the start of your combo, and never use the o-piece as this can cause both the combo to be harder to pull off and it can make stacking it up harder to pull off (espiecially in 4-wide center (due to a thing called parity))
@Jerryfan271
@Jerryfan271 3 жыл бұрын
all pieces are fine as long as there are 3 tiles at the bottom of the well. It's physically impossible to leave a 3 residue with an O piece so you'll ruin your 4 wide if you try this. Depending on what residue shape you start with, just hold onto a piece that continues it. You're guaranteed to find one while building your stack.

I know about two wide combos, as that was a favorite strategy of mine in my Tetris Party days: it seemed fairly easy to maintain, AND I could also perform the occasional Tetris(possibly back to backs as well). T-spins for me were those random reward moments for the moment being set up(rare, though). This however, I never saw it. Now that i see, I will most certainly give it a try(once I get a Nintendo Switch).

Note how this is much easier to do than setting up combos in Puyo Puyo. This is why Tetris was nerfed...
@llSuperSnivyll
@llSuperSnivyll 5 жыл бұрын
It's not much easier. The issue happens in that it's far harder to stop as you can't obstruct the setup with garbage (naturally this does not apply to sideways 4-wide).
@ene3651
@ene3651 4 жыл бұрын
@@llSuperSnivyll it is much easier ontop of that, this takes anyone a maximum of three seconds to learn.

The side 4-wides are easier to do but puts you at risk if you have incoming garbage The center 4-wide is hard but doesn’t really put you at risk from incoming garbage

Man, this reminds me of MTC and how the bonus multiplier in the end of a round can go insanely high with high combos, combined with the point bonuses for all clears would make for ridiculous scores.

good tutorial, but I think you should have gone more in depth about it. for example: when building it make sure you have exactly 3 blocks that are sticking out in the well a setup of the 7 pieces to start it how to continue the setup (the pattern of L, O and reverse L on one side, then the rest on the other side) present some situations you wanna create juring the combo to accomedate certain pieces yeah just things that I would have liked to know starting out instead of having to figure it out

This is 1 year late, but 4 wide is the best way to go since 4 wides allow you to use your ammo to its max efficiency as once you get your combo to the max, one line is as much damage as a Tetris.
