Konami put more devotion, love, and inspiration into their games until they got obsessed with gambling machines. They used to make quality. Not focused on a certain hardware, but making the most out of whatever system they were producing for. Now they don't care. Contra HC, wasn't worse or better than Super Contra III. They were different games, and both amazing. All Konami games up until the second Metal Gear were works of art. Once they saw that Hideo was becoming the face of the company they drove him out to make plinko machines. Money rules their company and we will never see these gems from them again. It's sad, but it's the way of the world. Only the fans can bring these beautiful games back to the forefront, and create their successors. /BLOODSTAINED/ I'm looking forward to a Contra style game as well. The geniuses have left the company. Konami is just a gambling addict now.

The sound was rushed though, especially compared to other Konami titles on the Genesis. It could have done a lot more. One thing to note is that at 16:22, Elizabeth doesn't randomly teleport, she goes to the opposite side of the screen you're on. So if you stay kinda close to the center, you can manipulate where she'll teleport.

In the past week you’ve covered my two favorite Genesis games: Shinobi III and Castlevania Bloodlines. You’re making this quarantine easier for me! Lol. I play through both these games every 3 months or so. I grew up a Nintendo fan. SNES always won the Snes vs Genesis debates. It wasn’t until years later that I realized I had been missing the entire other side of the 16-bit coin. I had been told how inferior the Sega platform was in terms of sound and colors. Bloodlines destroys that notion. Note only are the tracks well composed, but they use the Genesis’ sound chip to incredible effect. Perhaps the best music on the system? And the color and graphics are amazing. Honestly, it looks just as good as anything the SNES has to offer and looks better than even the mighty Super Castlevania IV. (Plays better, too, imo). Thanks for covering these games and giving us unworthy retro game lovers what we want. You’re the man, SLX.
@retrosoul87704 жыл бұрын
Yeah there are in fact many games that destroy those bias ridden notions. But you'll notice a trend, that the best looking, sounding and most often playing Gen/MD games (and 16-bit games in general), are exclusive from Japan, and that's a key aspect that most detractors of the console fail to recognize. If you like the music from Bloodlines, I recommend the osts from Gauntlet IV, Langrisser II (The Last Battle), Devilish, Shining Force II, Dragon Slayer etc, there's a surprising amount of good orchestral on the system as well.

I still have them in their respective boxes all these years later. My cousin once owned a clamshell case copy, but I doubt he has it, or his Genesis anymore (last time I saw him was at his mom's funeral, sure as hell wasn't going to ask him there if I could buy that copy off of him). Also the stage 3 boss is a gargoyle, not a bat. That's according to the games ending. The ol' Countess Bartley sends Medusa at you first before she tries to get her hands dirty.

That is, quite possibly, the only weakness of the Genesis title. Flapping wings sounds like constipated quacking. Certain enemies make farting noises when hit. My sneaking suspicion is that by the late 80's Konami was already bored in dealing with the limitations of 8-Bit development and were eagerly yearning to chase the Motorola 68k based platforms like the Megadrive/Genesis or the SharpX 68k computer which were more in line with the 16-bit arcade boards they were accustomed to in their arcade division of games. But because of Nintendo's exclusivity agreement they had no choice but to begrudgingly keep up 8-Bit games on the NES while expressing some of their ambitions on a platform like Super Nintendo. Once that contract ran out was when you saw games like Sunset Riders, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Rocket Knight Adventures, Castlevania Bloodlines and the icing on the cake...Contra Hard Corps! 😁

The first 16 Bit Castlevania I played back in the day was Rondo Of Blood and back then the PC Engine was my favorite system of all time. Later on I got Vampire Killer for my Mega Drive and I was stunned with the Arcade feel of it, the Soundtrack and the effects. When I played through the second stage I was saying this might be better than Rondo Of Blood. When I got to the 4rth stage I made the decision that it was and still is better than Rondo Of Blood. Man the effects on Vampire Killer/Bloodlines and the overal soundtrack is a Masterpiece. I love the Soundtrack on Rondo Of Blood as well but it doesn't beat out Vampire Killer/Bloodlines soundtrack overall. This was another time I was like Man the Mega Drive beat out the PC Engine CD game again (Strider on the Mega Drive (Cart Game)) beat out Strider for the PC Engine (CD game) IMO as well. Now Castlevania IV for the SNES is good but the stages are kind of boring and are to similar for me and the soundtrack is not as good as Vampire Killer or Rondo Of Blood. Im a give it another few trys but I think I like Castlevania 3 on the Nes better than Castlevania IV on the SNES. I have to say playing the Mega Drive in RGB has pushed the console to my all time favorite and I just love the 320 resolution in most of the games and the Mega Drive having the better CPU when compared to the PC Engine's and SNES (very slow) CPU. Which is the reason Mega Drive games overal have more fluid and better gameplay. Now also even though tech wise the PC Engine and the SNES can both put more colors on the screen than the Mega Drive. Surprisingly the Mega Drive has many games that are more colorful when comparing in RGB. Now im my Composite video playing days. The PC Engine was my favorite but when I switched to RGB for my PC Engine, SNES and Mega Drive. The Mega Drive moved into first place after awhile and til this day the Mega Drive has the most stunning RGB and best RGB picture I have ever seen.

I own the complete majesco paper case version. I wish I had the real version but oh well. Can’t complain lol. What’s the deal with paper versions from majesco again? I have a sonic 3 paper version also. I got them for 20 bucks each. Overstock or something? Edit: appreciate your videos. Always solid editing and the best personal incites about the games. Bloodlines is a solid gem that’s been getting its shine lately. Long overdue.

The majesco releases were late reprints of popular games. They came in cardboard boxes and were sold at a cheaper price. The boards inside are identical, however, I owned both versions of Bloodlines before i sold them in 2019 (WHHYYY!!) They are identical inside with the Konami logo spread across the pcb. The cost saving came from a cheaper looking plastic cart and plain no color manual and cardboard box

Definitely regret not buying a copy all those years ago from KB Toys. That and Vagrant Story and Contra Hardcorps.

I also remember seeing this and Contra Hard Corps in a KB and passing them up. They were only $10!

easily in the top 5 of all genesis games and one of the best castlevania games PERIOD. Great video homie. You are knocking it out of the park lately.

great review. I love this game. Should have been more castlevania games on genesis. Very underrated system.

This game by itself was the one that made me totally fall in love with the Genesis, it became my favorite in the series next to Super Castlevania IV and this hasn't changed at all up to this day

. It's the atmosphere in Castlevania that I like best. It sucks when they censor things in different versions though, and for a game with vampires and monsters in it there's virtually no blood in any version. I always thought the walking up stairs and jumping animations werent great and lacking fluidity. They're all like that until SOTN actually. But this game is one of the best on the Genesis no doubt
