Episode Notes:
1. Prices are rough estimates as of the date of this upload. Prices can and will vary based on the smallest of things. I cannot account for every variance in condition and/or every auction that may go super high or low.
2. What you do with your money is your business. This is my opinion and it is no more an authority than your own. Spend your money how you want. I'll do the same.
3. I am not a video game collector and have not been for more than a decade now. The vast majority of my stuff was purchased over many years as these systems existed at retail.
4. I am not a reseller, nor have I ever been.
5. I am often asked does KZbin influence retro pricing. Of course it does. Just like every other article, video, message board, and fan site is capable of doing. The internet is a vast area of information, and it was only a matter of time before like minded people converged onto the media explaining the availability of stuff they loved as kids. It was inevitable.

I'm starting to think some of these rare games might be a bargain even at a $1,000. Think 20 years into the future, and ask yourself, what will a sealed, mint condition copy of the original Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Phantasy Star, or Panzer Dragoon Saga be worth? As crazy as it seems, I can honestly see some of these games being worth almost as much as a house. Because all the people who grew up with those games will be in their 60s, and will have all the disposable income, and will be feeling pretty nostalgic about "the good old days". Especially with the miserable course that our society is on, nostalgia is going to be twice as big as it is today.

Whales who's OCD is exploited spend 10's of thousands of dollars on micro transactions and loot boxes in F2P "games" they will never own a year even when they can't afford it. $1,000 on retro rare *games* as collectables is pretty reasonable by comparison as far as collecting professions go.

A lot of collector youtubers glorify those "holy grails". It can be easy for people to get swept up in it or try to collect for fame because it's so glorified, they think they'll be a part of a community, but it usually ends up not being fulfilling. I remember spending my rent money on Hyper Duel and realizing I couldn't make ends meet (Really stupid I know, I was just out of high school at the time) it was a lesson I'm glad I learned.

About 4 years ago I needed to build up some cash real fast. So I went on Ebay and sold some of my most prized games in my collection. This is what they were and what they sold for: Resident Evil Saturn (beautiful condition) $85 Megaman Legends 2 PS1 (fair condition) $65 Conker's Bad Fur Day N64 (cart only, but perfect label) $70 Burning Rangers Saturn (excellent condition) $275 Snatcher Sega CD (excellent condition) $450 Nintendo Virtual Boy (original box with all US released games complete in boxes with instructions. Except Jack Bros.) $650 Panzer Dragoon Saga (great condition, and it even had the white cardboard disk sleeves instead of the black paper ones) $699 I was sad to see them go since I had owned them for many years, and never intended to let them go. I still kinda miss them today. Especially Panzer Dragoon Saga. But I definitely needed the money, and I hope the people that bought them appreciate them like I did. I figured that somebody here would enjoy a little insight into a real story behind selling rare games on Ebay.

Great story, bro. I owned many Saturn games back in the day. I even reserved copies of Magic Knight Rayearth, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Shining Force III and picked them up on launch day. I played these games and loved them, but eventually I had no choice but to sell them as I was in college at the time. A year ago I decided to get them all back now that I could afford to do so. In six months I’ve almost completed my NTSC Saturn collection in extremely high grade. This was only possible because of awesome people like yourself who kept these games in such great shape and passed them on to another person who loves them as much as you did. I hope you get all of those games back soon just like I did. Cheers!🍺🍺

Don't feel so bad Electronic Boutique was clearing all of their Sega Saturn games at $7.99CAD and the same store cleared Atari Jaguar games at $3.99CAD and the console for $38.99CAD. They were packing up everything Atari Jaguar and they were going to sell everything for pennies but we needed to buy everything they were shipping back. I wish I would have just had them add everything up because to be honest it likely wasn't that much.

Almost everyone's got at least one story involves the day they made the mistake of not buying something or a bunch of somethings that went on to be worth a lot of money. I owned the Sega nomad for a couple years before I sold it for practically nothing. I could have never guess how stupid that would have been. The retro market is both fickle and goes up extremely fast. It's supply and demand and the fact of the matter is with these low run games supply will always be far lower than demand.

Same here. I saw it on the shelf at Electronics Botique for $50 and contemplated buying it but just days before, I was chatting with a import games store employee about this game and he said it wasn't every good, it's just that it's rare. Keep in mind the Japanese Panzer Dragoon Saga (Azel Panzer Dragoon) will not play on US systems with the converter cartridge. It senses that there is a cart in it and forces you to start the game without a cart so you'll have to play it on a Japanese system or have a mod-chip.

"If you pay a thousand dollars for a FUCKING video game, there is no one to blame, but yourself!" Hilarious! Great video. I was a fan of the Sega Saturn from the start, so I was always purchasing games back when the system was struggling in the market and prices were MSRP or discounted. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Magic Knight Rayearth each cost me $56 with tax. Dragon Force, Guardian Heroes, Sonic Jam, Sonic R, and plenty more were all bought brand new for $15-$30 discounted. Crazy to see how things have changed for the Saturn. When games were cheap, no one wanted them, but humans always desire what is hard to attain, which constantly drives up prices. Sega Lord X, I showed Yuji Naka my copy of Burning Rangers back in 2001 and he made an audible gasp, he was extremely shocked to see an American copy of the game, and he signed my instructional manual for the game. How much do you think the complete game with signing would be worth?

I collect in the sense that when I see an high value game sold at a low price, I'll buy it, even though I might not play it for a long time. I will never sell my collection (I'll divorce before that happens) So I am ok with not playing all the games right now. I will not buy a game I have already, just because it it cheap for resell purpose. I do however not do repro or roms as I only consider playing as part of the whole experience. There's just something about holding a complete copy of a mega drive game in your hand. They just look so cool. The only purchase I regret was a cart for Turtles in Time for the snes which I bought for about 120 dollars, because I was impatient to get it. That was due to miscalculation of exchange rate and shipping on my part. Ive never understood the love nintendo people have for cardboard, especially when you consider what they pay for it....

With the current craze to remake and remaster pretty much everything, even games about 5 years old, I wish Sega would remake Panzer Dragoon Saga. I've got the game myself and I love it but I think more people need to be able to play this classic. A modern interpretation of that beautiful art style would be incredible. It's a shame so few people are able to appreciate the game.

There are many $100 Saturn games these days. Silvergun is probably easier to score on XBLA, making the Saturn purchase one for the diehard fans. But I definitely agree that it’s one of the system’s visual masterpieces and should be enjoyed by everyone.

Glad I bought and kept my copy of Sonic Jam for much cheaper back in the day. I do have Dynamite Deka, Japanese. I got Panzer Dragoon Saga for $150+ over two decades ago. I thought THAT was expensive then, but now it's thrice as much now so I guess I lucked out in the end. I try not to spend over at least $80 for an old game, but sometimes I bite the bullet and pay a $100 price. But I certainly would not pay $500-$1000+ for a game! Not worth it no matter how good a game is.

The US box art for Darius Gaiden is stolen from Battle Space for Mechwarrior. I still have all the rule books for that. 😅😅😅😅 Allot of these games need rereleases though/ Especially now that xbox and steam have more stable stores and the digital editions tend to stay around unless stupid copyrights rear their heads. The biggest issue with Panzer Dragoon Saga in particular is that it's not even that rare. There are always copies available, ebay is usually loaded with them from all regions. It's just priced so high no one can actually afford it hah. I was lucky to get my PAL copy (minus the outer sleeve sadly) back in the day before the Saturn boom for around £80.

I totally agree with your finishing assertion. I decided that 2020 was my year to go for the US Sega Master System collection. In doing my research and looking at prices there is no way I can justify paying nearly $1000 for a sticker on the back of a box - I'm looking at you Sonic the Hedgehog! So far its been a lot of fun and I am already over half way there but 1000x yes - I am my own worst enemy when it comes to over spending on games but at least I can admit it. Great video man keep up the great work!

In 2006-ish, I asked someone working at a video store in West Chester, PA if I could just buy all of the Saturn games they had for rent. No one had touched them for years, so they were happy to let me walk out with ~50 games for about $20. Panzer Dragoon Saga was one of them. Had to sell the entire collection when times got tough, and it must have been before the surge in demand because I definitely did not get that much for PDS.

I was soo good at it, that I was able to play Scenario 2 and 3 without any major problem.. Yes, sometimes I asked a friend to translate te story for me.. But I ended playing for 3000+ hours the 3 scenarios. DARK SAVIOR is yet again in my TOP 5 SATURN GAMES LIST.-- The parallels are soy adictive I played all and obtained all endings.. Last year I played again and obtained 3 endings he he he. I wonder why this game does not go higher on price. MYSTARIA WAS STOLEN FROM ME U_U --- Yes it´s a very good game. LEGEND OF OASIS defy me, I can´t finish the game, indeed it is good, really god. I was luck enough to buy Magic Knight Rayearth at $80US... , unfurtunately I´m only half across the game.

Spot on!! I was fortunate and unfortunate..twice with my Saturn collection. My first collection was a pawn shop bought Saturn with Darius Gaiden and Galactic Attack in summer of 1999. So a few weeks later I bought two Imports, Radiant Silvergun and Real Bout Special from Buy-Rite. After that I bought DoDonpachi, DBZ Legends, Thunderforce V, Last Bronx, Fighters Megamix Import, Virtua On Netlink version, Nights with the Special Controller, Burning Rangers, all the Capcom 4 MB games. I did get street Fighter Zero 3 but gave it to a friend because I had gotten the DC version. In 2000 my apartment was broken into and all my Saturn and PSX games including imports were stolen. My second collection was better, but a job loss and pending birth on my 2nd daughter I had to sell my collection once more. After that I never went back to collect the game systems again

Down voted the video for the outburst at the end of it. I’ve watched every single one of your videos some of them 3-4 times over and I love your content and trust virtually everything you say. But criticizing people on what their willing to spend on video games ain’t it. Sure no one should spend $1000 on a video game but if people do decide to who are you to say not to? People will continue to ask ridiculous prices whether they’re selling for that price or not. I’ve bought expensive games in the past and have no problem buying them because I work hard for them and I spend within my means. Telling someone their pretty much an idiot for spending what they want on a game makes you sound super bitter. Just my two cents*

I watch these videos to see if there are games I want to have backed up or reproduced. Paying more than $100 for a game is way too much. I drew the line at paying $80 for a complete Japanese copy of Rayman for the Saturn because I do enjoy it despite its obscene difficulty and it's a game from my childhood. My Saturn library is a mixture of real and reproduction games from all regions and some of my real games are also in reproduction cases because I play games for fun and pay only what I think is reasonable. TBH it's still expensive for me so I can't even imagine paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for a disc.

I'll tell you what. When I got my North American Saturn back in the early summer of 2010, I actually paid only $40 for it. I'm not joking. I also got all three Sonic games complete for it at around the same time. Getting Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R complete for cheap was pretty easy as the Buy it Now prices were low. Getting Sonic Jam complete for cheap, on the other hand, was a different story. It required me to win an auction, but I got it for less than $30. Boy, am I glad I got it when I did. I would get the Japanese Saturn in the spring of 2018, but I got it for just one game - Gale Racer.

Never forget that nearly all Sega Saturn games are available online for downloading and burning. Never feel discouraged if some titles are too expensive to buy. I actually own the South American release of Burning Rangers and bought it new for about $60 shipped just a few years ago. It is the same box art as the US release but in a small cardboard box with the game in a standard CD jewel case. But the game itself is the exact same US release of the game and even works in normal US Saturns as it is region coded for the US. The text on the box and instructions is all in Portuguese but the rest of the game itself when playing it is the US version. So that is another way to get Burning Rangers for less than the current asking price.
