Here's a pro-tip for you segmented bowl woodworkers. Before cutting the wedges, put a pencil line down one face of the wood, all the way down. Then, while setting up for gluing, alternate each segment so one shows the line, and then the next, the line is on the bottom. This ensures that, even if your blade is off a tiny bit, the seam between the two adjoining pieces is always 90 degrees and they'll sit flat.

How cool is that kit? One kit one Wedge-Pro and even I could make a segmented bowl. Of course, I would have to acquire a lathe and a table saw. Thanks Rod, for the video and the scripture. 😎

Hey, Rod, I'm only part way through but wanted to make a quick comment now while I was thinking about it (plus I know it will turn out beautiful, that's a given). Being sent plans, the cut pieces, plus using your Wedge Pro is awesome. Takes so much of the mental part of it out. Also, I have that same drum sander (looks to be a Jet 1632, if I'm not mistaken) and, for your viewers who have not tried making a segmented bowl, there's no better way to make sure your layers are flat and level. It's a great addition to my shop, so glad I bought it. Now, back to the video. You've made me realize how long it's been since I've done a segmented bowl and inspired me to make that my next lathe project. I really like the little medallions that you epoxy into the bottom, I'd like to start using something like that. Can you tell me where you got them?
@RHumphrey8 ай бұрын
Yes, Jet 1632, a great addition to my shop. I might use some of that beautiful wood you sent me for the next segmented bowl... You've inspired me this morning by being present in my comment section, thank you!!

Beautiful work as always, Rod. I have the wedge-pro but it's still in its box. I've been tied down with getting the garden in shape to keep the bride happy so I'm in severe withdrawal from my lathe. However, I'm almost there and hope to create shavings this week. Semper Fi Alan

Nice bowl Rod. It sure is nice to turn segmented work isn't it? The shavings just flow off. You sure do like your segmenting jig. I am still partial to my wedgie sled. However I do like the fixture for setting segment edge length that you are using. Do you suppose Mike would sell just that part? Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
@RHumphrey7 ай бұрын
Thanks, Glen! I do love to turn a segmented piece. Eliminating end grain makes those ribbons so satisfying as they fly off the wood. Mike is a really nice and approachable man, so I'd recommend asking him. You have a great day too, my friend, and thanks!

Really nice, Rod. I saw quite a bit of chatoyance there. Are you still saving all of those shavings? Bill
@RHumphrey7 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, Bill! I save a lot of them. I use them for ground cover in my perennial garden and bigger pots, depending on the wood. I have a lot of various colors stashed away for future projects too!
