Seiko is more important to many more people than Patek Phillipe in terms of how millions upon millions of people experience horology. The more you learn about the Seiko narrative, the more admiration one develops for the brand. The point is to consider how useful and endearing many even moderately priced Seiko references are. As far as the OEM bracelets are concerned, they are over maligned. However, any OEM strap and bracelet issues are readily remedied by a host of specialty suppliers like Uncle Seiko who offer straps and bracelets which elevate the Seiko watch experience to an amazingly high level of satisfaction.

Never apologise for loving Seiko, the most manufacture manufacturer ever. BTW, what makes a Seiko 5 a 5 is adherence to the five principles: (from Hodinkee) There were 5 traits every Seiko 5 had: an automatic movement, a day/date window, significant water resistance for sporting activities, a crown at 4 o'clock, and durable case and bracelet(or strap).

What Seiko 5s have in common: price point If you're going to pick on anything, though, the 4R movement? Losing loads of seconds? The 4R34 is part of a fairly reliable family. I've got a Phoibos Sea Nymph on my wrist right now which has an NH35 (4R35) movement that loses 0.5 seconds a day. Dump on the Hardlex, not the 4R34!

Yours in the video is the new fancy type, pick up some older generation ones for $100 each and learn the Seiko shuffle (since you can’t hand wind those)! Hi Britt. For people like me, who travel a lot and actually USE their wristwatch as a TIME reference, the difference between a "Desk/caller GMT" and "Traveller's GMT" is a BIG one. We just want to be able to EASILY switch the hour hand ahead or back in hour steps, with the date following along (forward or back) without stopping the secongs hand. Why? Because just after takeoff on a trip to a different time zone, I just pop the crown and move the hours hand forward or backward in discrete 1-hour increments BY FEEL without disturbing anything else. Then I'm ready to go for my next stop/connection - easy to do, hard to make a mistake. Try THAT on a darkened night flight with turbulence on a Desk GMT - Ack! Hard to do. Many watch companies, like Omega and just recently Seiko (on their GS line) realized that this is THE critical ability (jumping hours hand with following date) - the 24 hour hand is nice, but not critical at all. A desk/caller GMT requires a complete reset to really change timezones on the regular hours hand. It's an interesting complication, but not terribly useful, unless you sit at a DESK and are making a CALL to customer in ONE different time zone. Pretty limited. Of course, if you have a smart watch or phone, this is really irrelevent. But lets face it - if you're sporting a mechanical GMT watch of any type, you've already decided you like kinetic, mechanical jewelry. So much the better if its actually usefu!

I adjusted it over a period of a few days to see how accurate I can get it and it has been rock steady at less than +/- 0.25 seconds per day or +/- 7.5 seconds/month, that is not a type-o. So far it has held that for the past 6 months without missing a beat. You have to have them adjusted as I have done but if you are not afraid of getting into the movement I recommend it over paying $ 500 which is a chunk of change. Food for thought.

I have the SSK005 (the orange one) and I am really enjoying it. it has also gotten me a few compliments and I like the way it looks. It's a lot of bang for your buck.

It's such tempting Seiko to buy. The name says it all. The Seiko 5 GMT (Got your Money Taken)!
@paulhiggins87742 жыл бұрын
Affordable GMT with hacking, the mod guys are going to love this one, before you know it there will be an array of colours and combinations to suit everyone, cant wait! the meaning of "5" is automatic winding, a day and date display, water resistance, a recessed crown at 4 o'clock, and a durable case. So they can put a million combinations of watches together and still be called a "5" Great review 💯

I have one of these and absolutely love it especially for travel, Yes the quality isn’t quite as good as my Tag Carerra but still very decent for the money

thanks for the vid, lots of great shots of the watch! convinced me to buy one :) do you by chance have the link to the nato strap? looks great

It's easy to upgrade the bracelet with Strapcode, Uncle Seiko, etc.

San Martin SN015 GMT has entered the chat LOL. Higher specs, and around $100 + dollars less in cost. It has a 4hz (ETA clone) movement, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, 200M water resistance, better overall finish of case and jubilee bracelet (with screws not pins), bi-direction bezel with click, anti reflective coating, super bright lume on dial AND bezel... I feel like there is more, but you get the idea.

I'm surprised how good it looks on your 5.5" wrist! The numbers aren't always everything. I'm constantly reminding myself of that.

I just wish they would put a screw down crown on it to bump the WR up. Basically you’d have a GMT SKX. A massive win.
@watchpapi2 жыл бұрын
Why? Is 10 atm not enough? (I’m not being confrontational by the way, just interested)
@maxstatic2 жыл бұрын
@@watchpapi it’s more the extra security of the screw down crown. The added WR would be a bonus.

I’d argue, you get more than what you pay for. The folks trashing Seiko bc micro brands “do it better for less” aren’t taking R&D into account. Without Seiko(or citizen etc), there is no micro brand alternative. I’ve got a Rolex in my collection that I’m in love with, but I adore my Seiko and Hamiltons. Great watches with so much character 🫶.
@Conundrum1912 жыл бұрын
I like it, but think it is a shame Seiko didn't lume the bezel, and give it sapphire over hardlex for the price. That said, I'm interested to see what the sale price will be on this one in a year or two, and what microbrands will do with the NH34 once in their hands.

Never really liked the regular Seiko’s. The vintage King Seiko’s and Grand Seiko’s are great and I have owned them. This Seiko is good looking however. The hold back would be the bracelet as you and many others have said Seiko bracelet are not great. Great video Britt keep’em coming.
@BrittPearceWatches2 жыл бұрын
Right?! I feel the same. Seiko was never really my thing. I know they have a cult following and people who love them… i just wasn’t really one of them. But I really enjoyed this one! More than I thought! 😱💕

Nice watch although I’ve never been a fan of the cyclops lens. I’m probably going to add an SPB143 to my collection. I encourage you to look up on it as I’m convinced the proportions would also be better for your wrist. Going for a Seiko bong hit next week to check it out at AD 🥴

I'm debating whether to get this Seiko 5 (SRPD51, non-GMT version) or Citizen's Promaster dive watch. both are amazing looking diver watches at an affordable price. can't go wrong with Seiko or Citizen !

AHHH MAN! I've not seen the Citizen in person, but I gotta say.... I've got a real soft spot for the Seiko 5 now
