Very nice Cam, I see yours has the horse shoe case back, I have one with the later case back from 1975, it’s all original and in perfect working order unfortunately mine has the black lume rot that you speak of, having said that I must say the second I pick it up it starts running and the precise feel I get through the crown when setting date and time is as good as any vintage Rolex or omega from the same period and although it has a ton of miles on it (I can tell by the excessive wear on the lower mainspring arbor) it keeps great time and it hasn’t been serviced since the 80’s. Respect for vintage Seikos ✊🏼 Cheers mate.

Got an 8110 circa '77 from the ship's store(USN)for about $75. Wore the s*** out of it. Still have it and it still runs! Nutty how much they're worth now. I have an Addiesdive knock off that is actually quite nice and authentic looking. Has the same heft.

I think the price of a 6105 in the early 70's was around $100. I was around then and I'm here to tell you that $100 in the early 70's was not cheap! The price was a hefty chunk of a guy's monthly pay back then. Officers are probably the only servicemen that could really afford one.

I’ve owned a 6105-8119 since I bought it at the base exchange in 1976. My go to watch for 15 years and then put up when I bought another more dressy Seiko. I recently found out that my vintage Willard is collectible so I went hunting for it in my dresser. I found it and lo and behold it was a 6105 just like I saw on the repair KZbin video. It still ran so I sent it out to be restored. Can’t wait to get her back.

Well done review! I found a 6105-8119 from Sept. 1976, who had been unloved. A stay with (1 of) my Horologist(s) remedied her every ailment. She too has an Uncle Seiko (period correct flat tire) strap, and a Klein Vintage Watch crystal. She's glorious again now!

@@craftandtailored btw, you wrote in the article that the watch in the Apocalypse Now was a 8110. How could you tell this for sure? Why not a 8119? Considering the fact that 8119s were for US market, I think there were bigger chances for a Hollywood movie to feature the 8119 rather than the 8110. Any opinion?

I’ve always been fascinated with the history of the Willard, and having the look of the 6105 with the modern upgrades is pretty special. It’s been a while since I’ve owned a Seiko, and I almost forgot just how killer their lume is!

At the time this watch was originally in production and the imperial (feet and inches) system was in use, a 19 mm strap would have been a 3/4 inch strap. I'm not sure when SI units became de rigeur, maybe the late 70's.

PSA - I would advise potential customers to steer clear of this retailer. Please note they have incorrectly listed two out of three 6105's on their website that have already sold. One clearly has a complete aftermarket handset (read - FAKE, not OEM, not factory, not even Seiko). Yet the listing reads: "The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and exhibit no lume loss or degradation under U.V. light inspection. The "stoplight" sweep seconds hand could be a later service replacement but we chose to leave it with this example as we felt it accented the dial and the hands nicely!" Another listing clearly has a fake bezel insert, yet the listing reads "The bezel retains its factory deep black finish and retails its luminous filled pearl." These guys are a joke Edit: on further review, one of their 6105's not only had fake hands, but a FAKE dial as well. Description on their website describes it as in "beautiful vintage condition with light signs of aging."
