Bruce, I purchased a 6105-8110 from a retired COLONEL that was in the AIR FORCE stationed in the PHILIPPINES. He purchased the watch at the PX and dove 86 times taking care to rinse the watch every time he dove with it. The great thing about it is ,he put the watch away after 2 years and never wore it again. He came in off the street in IOWA at my watchmakers . He wanted to sell and my watchmaker was the first to ever open the case difficult to open to say the least, the movement was pristine. The dial hands had a little lume rot. It is all original , never been polished and came with original waffle strap and crystal.Needless to say the watch was not cheap as my offer to him bought the watch and my watchmaker went through it. I replaced the strap with a UNCLE SEIKO waffle and purchased a SPENCER KLEIN crystal. The original strap and crystal are in my banks lock box. You never know what can waltz in off the street.

Unfortunately in the UK it would be less likely to come across old movie icon watches like that. Why not make a video to show us your watch
@camarocarl71309 ай бұрын
Nice, I would not trust that Klein crystal around any water though, he does not pressure test any watches or crystals. I would replace it with a reliable crystal.

I have a 6105-8119 I bought at the BX at Barksdale AFB in 1978. I had it serviced for the first time in 2021. Found an original OEM crystal on EBay out of Israel. Cost way too much but it came in an original Seiko sleeve with the correct part number. I wore it for 15 years before I put it up. The case has dings here and there and the bezel insert is faded but it’s all original. It’s like an old friend. While it was out being serviced I bought an SPB 237. Beautiful watch,I don’t wear it as much as my 6105 but I’m very pleased with my purchase.

Thanks for taking us with you on that journey to your new time piece. Isn't it exactly that what makes the hobby so great? The research, the chase and then ending up with such a beaut. Congrats Chris, you made a good catch there. Enjoy it. Seiko 💪

I'm with you. They now do a 'Tandorio' logo-free (sterile) version with the UV coating removed, and the ceramic bezel insert non-lumed (instead with more traditional lume-pip). A very convincing homage for a tiny fraction of the price!

Nice. Suppose it depends if you’re happy with a nice original (but old) watch or want hassle free new. I’m still all in for the new 151. To hell with the price 😃

I bought a 6105-8110 at an estate sale in SC, not knowing anything about Seiko's. Very lucky. It's in great shape. All original. What surprises me is how comfortable it is on the wrist. Buttery. Just disappears. It also doesn't look bad under a grey suit cuff!

Great video - thank you. An original 6105 is on my wishlist; both a Willard and Slim. I just picked up two grails; a 6306-7001 and 7548-7000 (both eBay buys from Japan). I have a Heimdallr Willard mod, but of course that’s not as sweet as a real one.

Have you ever done a watch review while hiding in a cardboard box? I'm thinking about getting a 6105 as a birth year watch. I'm not sure if I'm ready for vintage, I only gotten into watches again recently. The recreation is probably a better move for me.

Were you a Brown River Rat? I was a Bear in F-4C/Ds Ubon 1970-72. I am an old vet on social security. I seem to remember them selling for about $110usd back then. A lot for military in country at the time. Now I wish I had kept mine but traded for a newer watch when I got home. Oh well, things do change. Great video dinky dau.

I think either of the three could be a good choice, but I would go for the SPB. Yeah, I know the movement is found in less expensive Seikos, but it's still a really good movement. The ETA Black Bays were still fine watches, despite being the same movement found in watches a fraction of the price and were not in-house. It just doesn't bother me. Plus that green version of the SPB looks tempting. Still, you did you and got an iconic piece out of it. Enjoy!
@snikt21214 жыл бұрын
Agreed. SPB looks great, can be worn and swam with as a tool watch and these vintage 6105 are all frankensteined so why bother ? The history is gone at that point. Get the SPB and an Uncle Seiko waffle or chocolate bar and you are gold.

At least you know with the original Seiko likely had a much better QC back then. But saying that I recently purchased the Willard reissue black series edition and it came with no QC issues which with Seiko left me with a Phew moment 😅, lol.

I got it serviced and boy, oh boy, it didn't last long. I didn't wear it much either... Maybe twice? Go to the video of where it was serviced to learn where not to get it these types of watches serviced. I'll end up making a video about it eventually.

Chris...you have a timegrapher...its nothing to regulate the watch...I do it to all my automatics when needed. It may take you a while between rate and beat error first time doing it but its very doable and once you get the hang of it its a snap...just go slow. How's the Amplitude? That will tell you if it needs a cleaning...which it very well may.

I have had my 6105 since I was 14 in 1977. I also bought the remake SLA. I have always been a Seiko dive watch fan. I have many. The problem these days with Seiko is that they are coming out of China, so unless you buy a Seiko on the Japanese Domestic Market you are getting a China built one.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. What may be out of your price range is fine for someone else. Overpriced is opinion only. Are you going to say an RM is overpriced too just because you can’t afford a $200,000 watch and you can’t understand how anyone would want one?
