Funny how I found this video as my first luxury watch purchase is boiling down to these exact 2 models. Im finding it very difficult to find that specific seiko in person. I like both of these watches alot and i wouldnt mind having both of them in my collection! Thank you for a great video

I prefer the baby Alpinist. That particular model is not super easy to get a hold of, but it is out here. I have the SPB159 on the Seiko Alpinist bracelet (same one as on the SPB155) and love it though.

Both look great but that Seiko dial is beautiful.
@abrownff6 ай бұрын
I think the Seiko is more interesting with the dial and polished sides on the case. But I do like the taper on the Hamiltons bracelet a lot better. I have the green baby Alpinist on a Parnis jubilee, which I got from a review you did awhile back. It fits both Alpinists.

I ordered the 38mm Murph with a leather strap on Halloween since there was a sale, and the label for shipping just printed today. Hopefully, I'll be getting it soon! Might grab one of these Uncle Senator bracelets for it on Black Friday.

Love this comparison! Love both these models. I bought the SPB211 after watching your review more time than I would like to admit. Main reason is I can't have my daily without date, and in my region the SPB211 is half the price of the murph. I just hope Uncle will release the senator bracelet like the one on the murph with alpinist endlink, as it will be the perfect bracelet for me.

Hamilton Murp 38 for me.

I had the old alpinist (6r15) on that exact bracelet. I ended up selling all my Seiko watches because i struggled to adjust the movements. The 6r is just not comparable in terms on quality and accuracy with the ETA based movements. Recently i started looking again for another watch, and this Hamilton seems like an interesting proposition.

I have a Hamilton Khaki Field automatic 38. The movement is crazy accurate. Better than my Junghans Max Bill automatic and on par with my Sinn 556aRS. I loved Interstellar and i visited a local AD and the felt underwhelmed by the 38mm Murph. I like the green Baby Alpinist 155 from Seiko but I've heard the 6R35 is not well regulated in some units.

Hi, newer watch enthusiast and I have the SpB155 baby alpinist ordered. Do you happen to know, is it possible for a local dealer to dial the movement in to make it more accurate (I beleive its called regulating??) ?
@weaverjones68085 ай бұрын
I like the screw down crown on the Alpinist and added water resistance but Hamilton has a better movement and brand name. I own the Murph and absolutely love it. I would like to get the Oyster Uncle strap but they are always sold out

The dial is too nice for the baby alpinist that it edges out the Interstellar connection for the Hammy

Definitely the Hamilton. If the Seiko was less than half of its rrp then I might consider it... Nah, I'm still taking the Hamilton.
@nwerdscissorhands74756 ай бұрын
I have the Murph. The movement is superior. +/-1 second a day. I prefer a brushed case (less finger prints) and it's thinner (better for NATO straps). Seiko will obviously have better lume but the Arabic numerals aren't lumed (unlike the Murph)so what's the point. And the Seiko movement is trash compared to the Hamilton. +/-16 seconds a day or whatever. Garbage. I wear my Murph on a khaki colored ribbed NATO from CNS watch bands and it looks amazing.
@moreplatesmoreface6 ай бұрын
This is a little unfair ... you're comparing a personal anecdote about the Hamilton's accuracy with the stated accuracy of the Seiko … in reality the Hamilton's stated accuracy (or really the ETA 2824's) is just about neck and neck with the Seiko's (+/-30 for the ETA vs -15/+25 for the Seiko). In hand from anecdotal experience the Seiko is usually around 5 seconds fast. So the difference isn't that stark. Not only that but also the Seiko can be regulated at home. Also you only need 1 lumed hour marker to tell the time as long as the hands are lumed and 12-6 line is about perpendicular to the run of your wrist.
@daveLin1045 ай бұрын
@moreplatesmoreface I have 3 hamiltons all within 2 seconds per day and the accuracy stays great even when low down the power reserve. My seiko 6r35 not so accurate and thr 6r35 I have worse its about plus 11 seconds per day if fully wound when power reserve lower its 30+ fast this defeats the object of 60 hr reserve . .

Even though I think Seiko charges too much for a very basic (but solid) movement, I'll never stop disliking the Powermatic. I mean why would you want a mechanical movement that's made to be disposable and unrepairable?
@clash795 ай бұрын
The H-10 is NOT a powermatic. It has two more jewels, and a non synthetic escapement. It's also repairable
@peterlaurence-couzens89133 ай бұрын
@@clash79the h 10 is a powermatic. Powermatic is a series of movements, not just the 23j that Tissot uses.

I had both and sold both. The Murph is a good watch with an infinitely more precise movement but it lacks a screw-down crown. The Seiko is prettier and could even be compared to an Explorer but it has 3 major flaws: Too thick, crappy bracelet and worst movement ever.
