You made my day, my King Quartz 5856-5010 does it too, it's brilliant and so are you.

I love those markers on the dial, really classy look that's held up well. I've got a few different quartz Seikos of this era like a 4823-8000 in cap gold, which also has a neat feature of jumping the seconds hand to the next 10 second marker directly if you pull the crown out to set, making synchronising easier, what amazes me is it's still pretty much within spec accuracy despite being from '77, fantastic value and practicality for someone getting into vintage watches.

I have a Grand Quartz 4843-8050 and it hacks but also jumps within each 10 sec to the nearest hour hashmark so you can pull it in secession until it hits 12 o'clock for precise setting. 1976, amazing

@@amateurwatchfettler Oh yes, I'm a regular on your invaluable blog - wolfgang.... and I'm still looking for a 4823A battery door :) ... which I've discovered is very different the the 4823B(!) the hunt is part of the fun though I suppose.

A very interesting video, the Grand & King Quartz are such underappreciated watches. I bought a Grand Quartz 4843-8110 from Japan about a month ago & the quality & accuracy is amazing. Even the bracelet is way above normal 1970's standards with solid links & end links. The watch gains about 4 seconds a month which is still within the original spec of +/- 5 seconds. I've just checked it to see if it has the time adjustment feature but alas not, it seems like Daini has stolen a march over Suwa at that point. Thanks for the video, cheers

this is totally unexpected. maybe i try on my seiko Grand quartz (twin quartz) when i free. some collectors recently wrote an article online in 2020 that Grand Quartz and King Quartz were actually GS and KS after the mechanical GS and KS got cancelled around mid 1970s and for a while. GS stopped to exist and only in late 1980s was GS quartz revived . so from mid 70s to late 80s. KS and GS actually continued on their lives via KQ and GQ .

I think that's probably correct. The quartz equivalents were much more expensive too in many cases.

Whats the use of that function? Basically
@amateurwatchfettler3 жыл бұрын
It allows you to correct the time if the watch has drifted off by a few seconds fast or slow without having to reset the time and hack the seconds hand to the 12 position before synchronising to a time standard. With this watch, if it is, say running 2 seconds fast relative to the time standard, then you rotate the crown clockwise past the point of resisitance mentioned in the video and the watch will pause for two seconds, correcting the time differential. If its running 2 second slow, then rotate the crown anticlockwise throught its point of resistance and the seconds will advance 2 seconds.
