Beautiful watch, but yeah, not sure why they had to make it so thick. I guess 200m WR kind of explains it, but I think I would have preferred 100M with a sub 12mm case.

Yeah. 100m and sub 12 would make this an absolute beaut! The SBJE085 (i think i got the ref right) is 36mm and sub 12mm thick with 100m WR. It’s a tasty looking watch. If only they had matched the sizing for the mass market version, I’d be in love.

Search for the SPB169J1. Similar green dial, same movement, 39mm but only 11.1mm thick, 20mm lug width (yeah), diashield finish, much better bracelet (also diashield), front and back sapphire glass, black background on date window (yeah), signed crown (double yeah) and 100mm WR. :) Think of it as sarb033 successor!

For years i thought about buying the alpinist with inner compass-bezel. Then this beauty was realeased and i knew that would be mine. I really like, that there are 3 alpinists out now. Everyone can get their favourite design now. I personally like this the most because of the 1959-design and the simple dial. The compass-version looks a little too busy and the other one feels like a reduced version of the compass-model.

This watch is even better when you look at it in real life... It's retro style but feels modern in so many ways. It looks as good with a leather jacket as it does with a suit. The visual games that the dial causes depending on the light are so cool. This is such an unusual and unique watch

Whoa! I didn't realize these were out already. I've been waiting to see some videos on this. The photos in the Hodinkee article made these look steller! I'm pretty surprised by the 19mm lug width and quite disappointed by the case shape actually. Would have loved the same case design like the SPB159. That profile was gorgeous! I will say though, the dial didn't disappoint. I absolutely love the indices and hands as well as that inside track. I'd love to see all three colorways in person. The cream dial looks cool too, but that green is stunning!

For the Seiko stuff, I typically order off Caratco because they seem to get stuff really early. I preorderd this probably back in Feb or Mar when they were first announced as well. I agree the Cream dial looks gorgeous. I think if they could have shaved off 1-2mm on this, it'd be a banger. I think the SJE085 which is the REAL 1959 rerelease is around 11mm thick though. If they only made this one the same thickness, then :chefs kiss:.

@@Watchcastage Yep, that's exactly where I got the SPB159 and it was probably one of the first places (that I found anyway) that had them in stock last fall. The SJE085 is absolutely stunning and at 36.6mm, a fantastic size given the original version of it. I just wish they hadn't included the date at the 4:30. A no-date would have made that absolutely perfect IMHO.

I think you're exactly right about the date not working. Another thing, perhaps without the bund strap because I'm not keen on those at all. Although if they're going for a recreation adn that was the original strap, I guess I get it.

I have mine for almost half a year and still love it, wear it nearly everyday (wear my Casio GMW-B5000 doing heavy jobs). My authorised dealership manage to get me a bracelet from SPB241/243 models which I keep it on making it wearable all year round plus I switch it back to its leather for dress occasions.

They all look great, and I was between this or the cream dial. I haven't seen the cocktail times in person, but from what I've seen online and what I've heard people say, those things are gorgeous. So it sounds like you've got a winner there.

Thank you for letting us discover this magnificent Seiko with its impeccable finish. A little information: the thickness of the watch is due to the spring which guarantees 70 hours of power reserve, which is enormous in this price range.

I would rather have seen the date wheel in black with white lettering. Not such a shock to the eye. What were they thinking with 19mm lugs. I'm a seiko person but they so often stuff up an otherwise good thing don't they? Love the green.

I'm so sad that there is no AR under the sapphire glass, the reflection is so much (imagine under a direct sunny sky) :( The 19mm is also a bad point but not really. The green dial is gorgeous, even I will go for the black one or the cream one.

I keep on rewatching this. I have a question. Are the indices silver colored and the lume yellow or white? Also, I’m not really a strap swapping dude because I usually wear bracelets but I think this watch would look Insane on a black tropic strap. It would still look classy but be more sporty.

Yeah they are silvery hands and indexes, and the lume would be yellowish / faux patina. The issue I see with tropical rubber straps is I believe they’re all 20mm. I don’t know of any that are 19mm. So you’d have to mod one to get it to fit. PS: Took me a while to determine the color of the hands and indexes. I kept thinking it was gold, then silver, then gold, then silver. After looking at it I’m 75% sure they are silver. Ha. Damn broken color blind eyes suck at this shit.

Way too many watches. I have not flipped any of them. I have kept the same stupid approach as Podcastage where I keep everything I review. But I’m realizing I don’t need to do that for watches, so i think I will ultimately end up flipping a lot of them that I don’t really enjoy otherwise they’ll just sit in a box unused.

That’s one of the main reasons I don’t sell stuff online. The idea of selling stuff online is an absolute headache. When I was broke as shit, I sold all of my DVDs and cds on Amazon/eBay. The amount of work it was dealing with people was ridiculous. Getting complaints “oh it’s not working” even though it was working. So you have to refund them because you’re selling it for such a low price you can’t afford to pay for a return shipping label. Just a pin in the butt.

@@eerlijkerecensent1243 Well, I did get my Alpinist when it was released. The 20mm perlons actually fit really well on the 19mm lugs. Not at all like a 20mm nato on 19mm lugs. I will get a couple of Zuludiver 19mm natos for it though.
