Had this one but had to sell it. I felt the bracelet was tinny and noisy and the case back has a sharp ridge that caused me discomfort. A friend of mine has one and he broke a pusher on his. It’s a cool looking design but unfortunately I can’t recommend it.

Great review! You made me buy this watch :) Yes I do agree in some of your negative points but I just love the vintage look of this watch and it's the watch i wear the most. I can also confirm that having the dial tilted does actually make it much easier to read while i'm riding on my Suzuki Bandit.

I have an SCED0023 - the asymmetric 'Bishop' reissue with a similar orange on grey colour scheme. My wife bought it for me after we stumbled across it in a tiny watch shop in the backstreets of Aoyama. I love it to bits too. It's comfortable, unique and easy to use so it is my daily wear. My only gripe is that it is hard to read at night, but I love it too much to fault it for that!
@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no lume, but that model is stellar. All the cases that Giugiaro designed with Seiko have their own character and life. Those Bishop's are amongst my favorites.

Hi Patrick, yep I agree about the crown. if the date window was round it would work better . I have the SCED055 black and red version, I do like it and it also matches the interior of my car... Good review!

I have it. What made me want it was the movement - the manual says the battery lasts 5 years with 2 HOURS OF DAILY chronograph use. That is amazing. As for the 24-hour scale, I wish it was a 12-hour counter. That way, the 60-minute counter could be a 30-minute one. I find it quite difficult to read elapsed time down to the minute, and I usually time short things with it. Also, the chronograph second hand is a bit short and thin. Lastly, the chronograph hand beats thrice a second, so there shouldn't be so many subsecond markers, but that doesn't really matter.

I have the same watch. I accept your comment on the crown. Yes, it is pain in the ass but since its a quartz watch which requires less frequent setting. I also feel lack of lum is another drawback.

Wow! What a great and thorough review of an inexpensive watch! For the motorcycle rider a 24 hour register is way more useful then a second timezone.It can actually be a bit confusing total time of the trip. I am impressed enough to subscribe and actually buy the watch.

I own this watch as well in the same color. I think they made 1000 of each color and 2500 of some of them. I love the look of the watch and the color scheme. Great 80's homage. I agree with all the negative comments you made about the watch (24 hour dial, Small crown, limited micro-adjustments). I would add one more thing that drives me crazy. While the tilted dial face is super cool when I'm on my bike it kind of drives me nuts when I'm not. I wish they would have made the 12 o'clock position a little more distinguished so it would be easier to tell the time at a glance. As it is now, with the tilt of the dial face, it takes me a few seconds to get my bearing on the location of the face before I can tell what time it is. Also I would have like a Tachy scale around the outside to keep with the racing heritage of the watch.
@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett7 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree in regards to the orientation of the watch and how having a more distinguished twelve o'clock would help with legibility. Could have been enhanced, although they were working off an original design, I suppose it's a hiccup amongst both the new and vintage models.

Patrick, how did you adjust the bracelet for your watch? I read online that the band requires a proprietary tool to adjust the band. When I tried to do it myself I can remove links but I can't put it back together.
@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett5 жыл бұрын
Hey, so... I would never recommend this, but... I used a heavy object (c-clamp), prong end of a spring bar tool (detached from handle) and a jewelers flat head... The links (if I remember correctly) only have one collar. Push the unnecessary links out and when replacing the pin & collar, balance the collar end of the link on the flat head and hammer the pin in. Never damaged a single watch, but I would not recommend trying this unless you were seriously comfortable with the whole balancing act. Hope that guide made sense.
@mphem5 жыл бұрын
@@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett Makes sense! I used a rubber hammer and it worked like a charm. Thanks

I only see this model featured by the legend Spencer Klein and now yourself. I'd consider picking it up if only to be part of that exclusive club. On another note, perhaps you could swap the clasp from another Seiko, one with more micro adjustments. It would be a pity to not be able to wear that awesome bracelet combo
@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett7 жыл бұрын
I'm almost certain I could, yes; but sadly, this piece is on the chopping block for now. I have a few more pieces that are coming in that this has to make way for.
@TonyCava7 жыл бұрын
If it's any consolation I have the same problem with the band on my SARB033- It came with a similar if not the same clasp w/only two micro ajustments. Fits my tiny 6 1/4" wrist either a tad too tight a tad too loose. I went with a tad loose. Never thought of adding a quartz to my Seiko collection but a watch by my favorite car designer is tempting, not to mention easier to find than a first generation VW Scirocco :)

@khronokraze7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review and closer look. Lots of cool variations on this particular style, but you may have one of the best.. perhaps the only one in silver, and orange accents brings some life to the playful, but functional dial configuration? i think most others are in black. However, I do like the panda version Did not know the dial also is tilted towards the wearer as you can see from side profile angles. So, the movement is actually mounted along this tilt as well? Interesting. I agree, the main niggle about the dial is the date window, should have just omitted or maybe move to 4 o'clock . And, the 24 hour subdial kind of useless.. mainly because you can't independently set it. And, I believe you cannot as many have stated.. and my SCED035 had the same movement.. i think just about all the sced's use the same movement as well. As with the crown, this could also be another design feature across many of the SCED watches. Very small and recessed. It was also very hard to pull out on my SCED035. The bracelet is cool, as much of the other SCED have unique bracelet designs. You probably don't want to change it. But, if you do, it would be very difficult to find a band or strap that is thin enough to fit into the very tight lug space this (these) watches have.

Nailed it with this review! I agree on all points and was waiting for you to call out the ᶠʳᵉᵃᵏᶦⁿᵍ ᵗᶦⁿʸ crown...Thank goodness it will stay accurate and keep running for a good while. I also have the same issue with sizing the bracelet properly. I have a 6.75" wrist, so it sounds like it's better suited to .5" adjustments. If it had like 4 micro-adjust holes it would probably be perfect. Other than that, I really like it a lot. To me, it's got kind of a DeLorean vibe in this colorway.

What an extraordinary design. I always go for a quartz chronograph. The mechanical ones are just not practical - high maintenance. OK, let's deliberate on the movements' precisions. Some of Seiko Dolce models have the caliber 4J40 and 8J41 which has 10 sec accuracy per year. Exquisite watches. They are made to resemble the Credor quartz series, which has the caliber 8J81. They are of the same family as the 4J52 and 8J56 found in some of the Grand Seiko models. The difference between these and the Grand Seiko 9F is that the former is not adjustable like the 9F, and 9F has a sealed cabin and does not require servicing for 50 years. Man, how do you beat that? But, the Dolce models, which is of the same category as the 4J52, 8J56, and 8J81, cost less than 400 dollars, whereas the later cost 20 times more. My two Dolce has hardly moved a sec in months, and the second hand hit the markers point on. The caliber in the watch under review is similar to that in my wife's Bvlgari, which can buy 50 pieces of the Dolce. The only thing valuable in the Bvlgari is the precious metal, which is not very much as it's a very small watch, hahaha... Anyway, Patrick, consider getting one of the Dolce for your girlfriend. My daughter likes them very much. I have the model SACM 150 and SACM 154. Cheers!
@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett7 жыл бұрын
I will, honestly! Thank you for this input... I love hearing about Quartz movements I’ve yet explored. I’m going to personally go over the Dolce collection shortly. Again, thank you for the ongoing commentary. I love hearing from other Seikoholics, haha. Chronometry isn’t always my primary concern, but I love hearing from those who regard it highly. Seiko has a particularly interesting history when it comes to accurate timepieces that deserves much respect.
@canonyeo42867 жыл бұрын
Many people commented that spring-drive is not mechanical. Actually, a number of Swiss company tried to develop this technology, but, Seiko beat them to it. It's a funny world we live in. Now, we want our cars to go electric, but, we never think of it as not mechanical. My e-plug Benz has two batteries. The spring-drive has no batteries. If we replaced that with the spring-drive, then the Benz would be more mechanical, and it would be more Benz than ever, hahaha... Seiko is the most transparent and the most honest. It's an open book. If you want to know more about, say, PP quartz, even Mr Google has nothing to say, hahaha...Seiko always understates their accuracy. The spring-drive is stated to have plus minus 15 sec a month.What I get is like 2 sec every few months. So, we can expect the 7C46 to do better, and the 9F even better. I read in the forum, one chap did the comparison between the 9F and the 4Jxx and 8Jxx using some kind of test, and the later came out winner, and, we have that in a 350 dollars Dolce. Well, this just talking precision. Now, back to playing with the Turtle. Wow, so much fun.
