I owned the Blue Sharp edge for a few weeks and the Green one for about 2 months. I tend to have bad luck with Seiko movements lol

Congrats for not forgetting function. To me the timekeeping function is an integral part of the satisfaction felt from appreciating a watch. The green patterned dial is nice but you can only stare for so long. It would be interesting to see the time graph and the effect of regulation. Automatics might run faster after you wind it fully, as you might do before parking it.

Seiko really knows how to make dials. The Pressage line really shows nicely what Seiko is capable to do. I even like that bracelet but not a big fan of that hands. As usual a great review bro, keep it up and have a happy weekend.

Excellent review! I appreciate your comments on the movement. I also don’t fret over a few seconds. However, 40 in daily wear by itself is too much . Then combine with a dramatic difference while resting is beyond the pale. This is not a $100 watch. Thanks Sanjay keep it up 👍

I find the blue dial variant to be particularly attractive. I must say that I am leery of the 6R series of movements. I've heard a lot of complaints about them. I'm not sure what it is though as they aren't vastly different from the 4R series, in my understanding. I believe they have very similar architecture. Thank you for sharing this

Nice watches both of them and I don't usually like green dials, especially glossy. Not sure about their price but a rattling bracelet is bad, the -40 sec is also not acceptable. Usually mechanical watch enthousiasts don't mind the accuracy, if they were would opt for quartz but -40 is really a lot. It looks quite big on your wrist, I remember the Aquis appeared smaller. Thanks EW for one more honest review

@mathewazzopard8100

@@budihartono1828 not too bad but still the watch every 3 days will be +1 min. The function of a mechanical auto watch may be affected (accuracy) by the person's activity, pulse etc which is why the manufacturer will state a +/- margin. Personally I can't accept anything over 15, whether it's minus or plus. In addition to that, when it comes to an experienced manufacturer such as Seiko with models of mid range that have a price tag $800 - $1500.

I've had 2 Seiko's with 6R35 Movements, one of which would gain a minute a day when the watch was not being worn. I had to send it in to Seiko for repair. Ended up giving it away sometime after. Extremely hit and miss movement. I don't understand why Seiko doesn't address that inconsistency problem.

I've had issues with Seiko 6r35, Mostly it running out of accuracy spec. Seiko at this price point really should do some form of regulation on movement to at least have them running to spec. It has become something that deters me from purchasing them, usually i go straight to seiko and they fix it for me and then it runs around 8s/day. But i am starting to appreciate the OG seikos, like the Tuna quartz marinemasters and the MM300 line-up. Im more so just happy with Seikos affordable line-King Samurai/turtles and presages (cocktails etc) and admire the premium seiko models, the in-between is really kicking it a notch. I also wonder what makes the Seiko 6L series of movements so expensive, if Seiko offered 6L at the 1-2k price point it would be fair, imo.
@engineer_wannabe
@engineer_wannabe 3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, I’ve considered and reconsidered the new steel bezeled MM200 so many times. I have not got one yet because I don’t want to roll the dice again lol. I too am more inclined to try out the King Samurai. Seiko did offer the 6L movement in the 2k price point a couple of years ago with the SJE073. It is considered to be a much higher grade movement and is quite slim as well as far as automatics are concerned 🙂 Of course with the push upmarket, they are now in $3-4k watches..

Blue or black? The flat portion on the dial is a disappointment so is the price! A 30% increase for 30% more power reserve? And you say you have had issues with accuracy. But I think regularly wearing might settle down irregularities then the option would be ultimately to regulate the movement itself in hasten to add. Very informative review. I see a similarity to the orient star series a while back that featured a carbon dial and a horizontal striped white dial aswell as a bi metal version.
@engineer_wannabe
@engineer_wannabe 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words my friend 🙂 I would pick black. The Blue colour variant seems to highlight the flact sections of the dial for some reason. You're probably right about the movement erraticness 🤔

Great video as always, I love the way these dials look and the case shape is really borderline GS so it makes for a very tempting option, but not so nice hearing about those movement issues...I mean I wouldn't expect COSC or anything near but 40 seconds off is pretty poor for a 1k+ watch. Is the 6R35 very closely related to the 6R64 in that new sharp-edged GMT they released? I'm really liking that one as an overall package but I hope that it doesn't have the same sort of accuracy issues you encountered.
@engineer_wannabe
@engineer_wannabe 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching man! The 6R64 seems to be more along the lines of the 6R27 which was a better movement in many aspects over the 6R15 and 6R35 from what I’ve read. I’m hopeful that this GMT movement will be consistently great! 😀

Gee. I have a regulated seiko 5 that operates within Cosc. It's more accurate than my Titoni with a 2892 a movement. I heard that seikos movements can be a lottery, up to their high level movements. That variance would bother me as well. Maybe I ll stay Swiss, or Myota movement. Beautiful dial though.

I agree. I have a 6R15d movement. On wrist it runs at -5 seconds per day, and at rest it runs at +3 seconds per day face up. None of my swiss watches are like that, if they are +3 on wrist, they are +3 at rest. The variance doesn’t change whether I’m wearing them or not. My 6R15d runs within COSC specs so I’m happy for that, but it’s hard to get used to. However with a variance of -40 on wrist and +6 at rest is too much and definitely disappointing and makes me question Seiko. What are they doing and why?

Haha I've been drooling over the SBGJ235 for so long! It's so frustrating that these models are limited editions in countries that I am not in.... Of course it'd be a non issue if I get over my apprehension of buying online :P That's a great question....If I had an opportunity to buy the SBGJ235 (and I had the funds ready) I'd jump on it. Mainly because the 9SA5 movement is always going to be in the next price bracket and the beautiful blue Iwate dial is so painfully rare....
