Seiko SKX007 | Worth buying in 2021?

The Seiko SKX007 and more Broadly the Seiko SKX line of watches (SKX009, SKX013) is a line of iconic timepieces, beloved by Seiko fans and respected by even the more demanding collector.
However in 2019 this iconic watch went out of production, with no true replacement. Ever since prices have been creeping up from the orignal 200 USD common price.
With this in account, is this still a good buy in 2020? Are good prices still to be found?

Thanks for the great video. As it happens, I have just had one of my SKX007s retuned from service. I have a total of three and wear two of them almost daily. My first was the one that has just been serviced, it was made in 1999, it is totally original and, since being serviced and regulated, it is keeping time within COSC parameters. It has a few bangs and scratches, but performs perfectly. My second was bought two years ago, brand new and is a safe-queen - never been worn, never had its bracelet resized and only comes out of the box to go in my watch winder for a couple of days each month to keep everything ticking over. My last was bought last year and is a modified “sleeper” - standard case and crown, but a matte ceramic bezel, flat sapphire crystal with AR coating and a regulated NH36 movement. It looks just like a standard SKX. Keep up the great videos and keep well.

Another great seiko time tool is BFK diver on 5m62 kinetic movement. A year after buying SKX007J1 in Dubai Mall İ have ordered BFK diver online from Japan in year 2016, this is JDM (Japan domestic model) option SBCZ025. İ can tell this is fantastic watch both in build quality and reliability point of view. Was planning also to buy Sumo, but after wearing BFK I do not want anything else.. Accumulator still keeps maximum after 1 hour active daily wrist wear (walking or running outside). Rest of the day I can enjoy my other watches... but then I again return back to BFK as daily watch for another 3-4 months😀 unfortunately ( or luckily for owners) BFK is also obsolete...

Hello. I have bought around 10 watches from them and the only time I paid taxes was when I took their "free" delivery with DHL. Take their normal delivery and you will be OK. However if you live in the EU just know that from the 1st of July they will be much tougher on enforcing taxation.

Can you please link me to the bracelet that you have on? Looks like a super oyster style. Could be wrong. Great review btw 👍, I've had my skx007 for 5+ years now and still wear it. I have the stock jubilee bracelet, although it does feel a bit light and cheapy (gotta cut costs somewhere right?), it's actually very very comfortable and shines nicely. Great for dress up.

Totally. Actually even in 2006 was it still a good value? I think the 007, even though I love it to death, was somehow overrated compared to other contemporary Seiko models with hacking and hand winding movements (Samurai, Turtle)

Prices will explode when creation watches run out of stock.. I can't find a decently priced SKX anywhere else, I paid a little extra for the J1 version, £250 works out about $350

And yet you can buy a brand new Amphibia, with the same 200m WR, a similar cult following, and some mod potential for $70 or less. The SKX was fairly priced at $150-200 IMHO. Nowadays, at >$300 we're in bubble territory, just like we saw with the Monster. Seiko know how to manipulate supply and demand and it's a sad sight. No better than Rolex now. Not to mention the fact that Seiko couldn't ever be bothered to sell the SKX via official dealers in the UK, so why should I have any brand loyalty to them? They've generally only sold the crap that no-one else wants here, rather like Japanese car manufacturers in fact (q.v. the Integra Type-R). The customers were there, but no, Seiko management knew better. So, to stick two fingers up at Seiko and their useless business model I made my own SKX using an SNK donor and 2nd-hand OEM dial/hands and a new Chinese case for £140. I'm happy with that. Also happy with my Steeldive SKX009 with an 'NH36' movement. Would happily buy an Islander if it wasn't for the import costs. Sorry for the rant, but really not a fan of Seiko. Was once until I realised that after 1990 I couldn't actually buy the ones I liked without importing from Japan, Singapore or the US.

I totally understand you. Seiko's strategy has always been a strange one regarding JDM models. If anything, in later years they have relaxed that policy by making JDM models more available worldwide (with GS for example). However I believe that they pulled their worst trick yet in the last few years by doubling the price of the watches without increasing the quality at all.

@@perfectcarspec109 Proper engineering back in the Integra Type-R days. Alas, not quite so much now, at least not in Europe. Just average. Like the German car industry, the accountants run the companies, and not the engineers. Stupid thing with Japanese cars and the UK is that we drive on the same side, so no costs for JP manufacturers to convert. Only costs would have been for rear lights, number plates and later, emissions. I never understood why they never imported JP, or even AUS, ZA and NZ spec cars to UK, but instead gave us grandma's used knickers. Honda were the worst, but Toyota and NIssan as well. Only JP companies with imagination were the smaller ones, Suzuki, Subaru and Mitsubishi. Even they spent nothing on marketing here, so never had great sales. Honda especially and Seiko should merge and allow their never-ending cavalcade of shit management decisions to converge into a tsunami of irrelevance. As UK and US car makers went, so Japan will follow. Shame.

If I were in the market today I'd *seriously* consider the Islander instead, but there's something about the story of the SKX that's very appealing -- tracing its lineage directly to the original Seiko diver of the 1960s. (Also ISO certification is pretty cool).

Sorry if you wear one from ‚Hey this is Marc from Long Island watch‘. I dont like his microbrand because of the look of his watches. Something is stylistically wrong, I think.
