I was actually deciding between these two a year ago. I bought the Yema Superman and I don't regret it. One thing I notice is that even if this watch is low profile, it grabs a lot of attention, and I even received many compliments, even more than my seamaster and tudors. I can see why, the design is actually very masculine but also luxurious and refined for a diver, and that's very difficult to get for that price. I think it is fascinating that people notice this watch and no one notice my black bay 36 or any of my seikos. I bought a delugs tiffany blue strap and It became the perfect summer watch, bringing more compliments. Is not that I wear watches for compliments, but it's interesting to see how some designs just talk to people. I never had any bad experience with Yema, therefore, I am big fan of the brand. I do believe this watch is underrated.

Both are well made and look good. However between the two the Seiko SPB143 wins for me. One of the most popular and liked Seiko divers in years and already on its way to becoming a classic. If you can find one without the lume pip at the 3.....even better, it's going to be a collectable.
@Mark-sd7fc2 жыл бұрын
Ok the watch w out a lume pip at the 3, is that an old watch or one of the newer remakes?

Both beautiful watches, ordinarily with the dimensions and specs that the Yema has I'd lean towards it. But, in this case I'm going with Seiko. I hate male end-links and dislike thicker cases and bracelets, but the watch is stunning and I can live with the other minor shortcomings. Also, I've also read online that Yema has pretty shoddy customer support which is important because you're buying directly from them.

At some point I was trying to choose between the blue Superman and the the SPB149. I ended up buying the seiko just because I saw it on the metal at a Seiko boutique. Now I have another “French” watch, a Wolbrook, it costs less than half and you can tell the different, but I like it!

I have a couple of Seiko “Capt Willard, SARB 035, SRP777” and I have to say that they are amazing watches. I just recently purchased the Yema Superman/Batman 500 gmt, I’m impressed that it’s 500meters compare to my Tudor Black Bay 58 gmt Pepsi at 200m and to my Oris Diver 65 at 100m. You would think a high end watch would be at least 500meters. So far I’m impressed with Yema and that fact that it comes with 2 stainless steel bracelet…

I was going for the 143 until I tried it on and on my 6.5" wrist the male end links make the first link stick out. So I went for the spb187 and it wears like a treat. Running at +4, nice 👍

@@EscapementWatch At the £650 I paid its a wrist hugging bargain.

The only downsides to the seiko should be quite big ones- the movement and QC, both of which are a crap shoot. But without any shadow of a doubt it looks a thousand times better to me. And I would smile every time I looked at it (I’ve owned one and am looking to rebuy another so I speak from experience).

It is true the Seiko has magic. I sold the Yama recently and I'm going to try a 37 mm homage from 54 watches and modify it I'll do a video on it to try to recreate the original 62 mas.

@@EscapementWatch I ended up getting the SPB213 which I love but previously owned a green dial LE Yema. Something about Seiko makes me overlook all their faults (and there are many!), I keep going back to them 😄

I have the SPB143 already, so it will be the Yema 😁 it wouldn’t bother me to have both in the collection 😁

For me it is a no contest: the Yema is good but the Seiko is awesome. Even if it has its little flaws, the Seiko has tons of appeal that the yema lacks

I love both but have the Superman. I had and returned the 143 due the movement being complete crap. The Yema has consistently run at +2 sec/day for two years now. Id own both if the 6r was not such an unpredictable movement. Yema CS sucks so theres that to consider.

Prefer pretty much everything on the Yema, but with all the reliability issues and added headaches, the seiko I find to be a better choice.

I own a Superman Heritage GMT Pepsi, Superman Worldtime GMT Steel, and Rallygraf Reverse Panda. I love my Yemas. I like the sleekness of the watches and the utilitarianism of the style. However, I hate the clasps and I wish the lugs curved down more. The case design seems to ride high because it's so thin (if that makes sense). I have a 7.5 in wrist and I prefer a larger watch, but the 41mm Worldtimer almost overhangs my wrist. The 39mm Pepsi fits better (and I love the vintage look) but it's still not as comfortable as a Seiko. Still, I love my Yemas, but I they don't beat my Seikos. The finish and build of the Seikos are superior for the money.

I would happily sacrifice the 70 hour power reserve of the seiko for better accuracy

I had this very dilemma wanting a vintage watch. I chose the yema (have a few Seiko's and wanted something different) and it is a gorgeous looking watch and oozes class. I have had it 6 months and has twice been back to the retailer to repair. Frustrating yes especially being a sellita movement but hardly yemas fault. I think... Seiko would be a better daily but for sheer aesthetics that yema is a show stopper. The amount of times it has been mistaken for a black bay 58 makes me laugh and once in their hands people usually gush. Typically french... Lots of flair with refinement but moody!!😂
@EscapementWatch2 жыл бұрын
yeah the base Sellitas are not that reliable.
@resjon79812 жыл бұрын
The SPB143 for the easy win but pity about the movement but hey who needs accuracy when a watch looks so good. Seiko should take a leaf out of Yema's book and make a quartz version of the SPB143.
@kanemillard33152 жыл бұрын
spb143 for me i just prefer the looks of the watch.
@drdesign68862 жыл бұрын
And the winner is……a pre owned Oris Divers 65. Seriously though the Seiko is crazy better than Yema. The finishing, the in-house, the history, the looks, the ruggedness etc etc. That Yema is overpriced for what it is. Christopher award make a much better watch than Yema for less. Much much better imho. All opinions though at end of the day. Enjoy what you enjoy.

Like the Yema, would love to have a french watch in the collection, but I´ve read bad comments about it´s postservice. Know anything about that?, Greetings fron MX.

Someone commented below their Yema has been back to retailer for repair 2x in 6months and I have heard stories online. I have only held 3 yemas in my hand and filmed them. All have been very good with no issues found.

Knowing that Seiko's QC and customer service is better than Yema says a lot about Yema, a French brand going in all directions trying to surf on a fake history (brand name purchased under licence but no relation with past manufacture), with appalling records in customer service and poor lottery quality... Seiko wins easily, while far from being perfect, at least you know what you get.
@niallduffy69072 жыл бұрын
Seiko timekeeping is not good with watches at this price point. There are way better watches out there at this price point, like oris, certina, Hamilton etc. These watches will do what watches are supposed to do and tell the time accurately!
