I just got my padi in the mail from their second release wave and the box is improved. It's now more than twice as big, much more solid and has Seiko, prospex and padi logos printed on the inside.

Well, I've had my PADI around two months now. I absolutely love it, amazing watch. Sits well alongside my Glycine Combat Sub, Squale 1521 Ocean Blasted and Seiko Kinetic Diver's. Losses around one minute per week which isn't a problem for me, my Squad 1521 gains a minute per week lol, I think that's automatics for you. Great video Sir.

Many thanks, LeShark75! I love how your collection is a strong set of diving watches (also my favourite genre of watch).

I use my bezel to time everything from my daughter's naps, food in the over and how long I speak at meetings- most people have a use for the bezel outside of diving!

what is Hardlex Glass? compare to sapphire glass..
@j0nnY77x8 жыл бұрын
Day Squared mineral crystal is the least scratch resistant hardlex is tougher against scratches than mineral crystal but weaker against them than sapphire glass.Also hardlex is more shatter resistant.

Hi nice review. Just a quick note to say that if you bought this watch from an AD in the uk they should have shipped it with a black special edition PADI BOX. it's not that different to the white box but just has PADI logos. I thought I'd let you know cause I've just been in argument with my retailer and Seiko uk. They have finally agreed to send me the correct box free of charge.
@Jack_Cage8 жыл бұрын
I purchased from an online Seiko Dealer so have been given the standard box (as have a lot of people). Shame as I've looked up the box you are referring to and its that little bit nicer. Thank you for the information - I may email Seiko and see if they'll kindly supply me with one (although I doubt they will).
@GarrySkipPerkins8 жыл бұрын
Sometimes AD's have bulk boxes shipped to them, then the watches are sent in a more space-efficient containers. The AD's will ship based upon habit or cost. Tons of dealers have been shipping Astron's in the standard Seiko box (as an example).

Yes and this is such a shame. It has definitely taught me a lesson. I have since parted ways with my PADI. It wasn't getting enough wrist time compared to my other pieces. If I ever decide to get another one in the future I will endeavour to buy the 'complete package'.

Great video. Respectfully disagree on the power reserve, I think 40 hours is more than adequate, and would prefer a reliable movement to one with long power reserves.
@Jack_Cage7 жыл бұрын
The correlation between a reliable movement and a longer power reserve is non-existent (one does not cancel out the other). Many watches have both these attributes and at present the industry standard is increasing from the average of 42 hours to a much more efficient 60-70 hours.
@HH60gPaveHawk7 жыл бұрын
Jack C I don't think any of the new movements have been around long enough to say anything about their reliability on the scale of these more basic movements. Regardless, the point of my comment was that anything more than 40 hours of PR is just to help people who aren't really the correct demographic for this watch. It's a mechanical professional diver, not a watched engineered to sit in a drawer while suit people avoid it during the work week.
@HH60gPaveHawk7 жыл бұрын
Jack C also, do you understand the meaning of the words you use? Non-existent implies a lot about your complete and utter Knowledge of every movement currently being used, and using efficient to describe an increase in power reserve makes no sense. More efficient how? Does each turn of the rotor or crown wind a greater quantity of time?
@Jack_Cage7 жыл бұрын
Yankee - my intention wasn't to start fencing with you on the subject. I merely pointed out that it is incorrect to assume that that I higher power reserve will sacrifice the reliability of the movement. As for my use of words - lets keep this friendly and dial it down a notch. A longer power reserve will negate the need to wind and reset the watch when it stops if you are rotating between other pieces in your watch collection (hence - 'efficient'). Yes its a mechanical professional diver, but 95% of all consumers of dive watches are not professional divers. So actually, many 'suit people' as well as others will wear a watch like this at various different lengths. I agree - 40 hours power reserve isn't terminal; I'd never allow a factor as small as this to discourage me from a buying decision. Lets call it my subjective opinion and I would personally like a longer power reserve based on my daily watch rotation preference. Does that sound fair enough? I meant no disrespect. It seems we both love watches enough to even care about speaking at length on these intricacies :)
@HH60gPaveHawk7 жыл бұрын
Jack C I apologize for my tone, it wasn't intended to be hostile, merely to object to your seeming insistence that 40 hours is somehow inadequate for a watch designed as a diver. I agree that the watch obviously will be worn by more people who don't even know what the ocean looks like than who actually dive 😏 I agree with your points, I just think from my engineering background that a more powerful spring in the same place is inherently less reliable. Not unreliable, just less reliable than a conventional spring in the very long term.

@Jack_Cage7 жыл бұрын
Apologies, Milford - I cannot relate as I have since parted ways with my PADI. It wasn't getting enough wrist time compared to my other pieces. The only major issue I had with the PADI is the the time-keeping. Everyone's will vary slightly but mine was gaining +20 seconds per day. I'm not a total snob when it comes to time-keeping, but I am so used to a chronometer standard that this is enough to bother me.

@Jack_Cage8 жыл бұрын
Mine doesn't say that on the case back but that it's unusual - Casio also have some of their case backs made it Thailand. The dial on mine also doesn't have Japan printed below the 6 o'clock position - this is because I purchased this PADI in Europe.
@ceejaydeesoozaa8 жыл бұрын
Jack C hi jack.. maybe its a hoax.. but ive realized theres 3 versions.. made in japan, japan movt(for Seiko usa) and just the case n movt number.. but also discovered thru research on wus that no matter what may be printed on the dial, the watches are not made in japan.only Seiko grand is. even the JDMs are not.. hmmmm.. Seiko what are you doing to us? hehhehe
@Jack_Cage7 жыл бұрын
Very interesting, Jason. I agree - this is a big shame. A huge part of the appeal of a Seiko is that you are buying from a very distinguished and respected Japanese Watch Brand. I have since parted with my PADI - and I keep coming back to the idea of acquiring a Grand Seiko... Perhaps an upgrade is on the horizon :)
