Have had both and the SLA021 is still in my watch box. The SBDC061 is a great buy, even when just comparing these two. The SLA021, for me, is just a step up in just about every way. Better bezel action, better crystal, better bezel insert, better dial and handset, finishing seems a touch better, I like the adjustable clasp (I enjoyed the 061 bracelet too), the cool factor of the monobloc case, and that wonderful 8L35B movement. I can understand a lot of people opting for the 061 and it's probably the smarter buy, but the 021 is just special.

Excellent review as always. My experience (own one) and my thoughts on the MM300 are: It is superior in every aspect, it follows the lineage of the 6159, wearing excitement, built like a tank so no need to worry about the elements of nature. It is simply a showstopper. Considering all the above it is a value for money compared to other Swiss brands.

Have a 300 and it’s one of the most iconic seiko divers hands down but as you pointed out it is beefy and not the best everyday day recently bought a 200 for that purpose I also didn’t like the handset either so I bought some marine master hands to put on it problem solved! A slower beat movement theoretically means less wear and tear also a plus for an every day driver, although I rarely wear the same one twice in a week these retro inspired seikos have been dominating my wrist I paid 4 times as much for my mm300 but after seeing this 60 series it’s not 4 times as nice either way you can’t go wrong with any seiko really Especially these upper tier divers best fully in house diver IMO!

I ordered the Seiko Blue Ocean Dial MM300 SLA023J1 : ) In a few days i will have it! I like the depth that the dial has, and the blue dial makes it even more gorgeous! All watches that have shallow dials are in my eyes lifelessly boring to look at in comparison! I had it for 21 days now, and I enjoy the watch, it's the only watch I wear!
@mtp19795 жыл бұрын
Great comparison. I have tried them both and beside the price it's the thickness of the watches that made me choose for the MM200. It just wears must better on my smaller wrist. And my 6r15 is below +4s/day ! What's not to like about it. And if I was willing to go above 2.000 eur for a diver I would stretch it to get an Omega SMP 300 (the new one which is 42mm and the master coaxial chronometer movement).
@varanid94 жыл бұрын
Greatly prefer the 300. The thickness is iconic, while the smaller dial really channels its 'inner retro'. Almost got the 200 to go with my Marinemaster, but, the dial was just too damn wide. It's a nice watch, though, nevertheless. I chose the SBDC153 instead, but, found that that is also a little too "OH, LOOK AT ME!!" size-wise, so, flipped it.

great review (I know, I'm late :) ). I like the MM200 better. The bracelet is the same, the diashield is the same, its just really the movement that you are paying for in the MM300, but you pay for that also with the excess thickness and weight. My order is in now for the MM200 as its a mature, rather then a new watch! - I'm just slow ...
@keesketsers5866 Жыл бұрын
Just ordered the 200 today, comes in tomorrow. I chose the mm200 because it reminds me of my Omega Planet Ocean (42mm, 2500c) which I sold and miss very much. I hope it fills the same role the Omega did. The MM300 is a beast, but I was looking for a more affordable diver to compliment my higher end watches (not afraid to wreck this one, I'm sure thats almost impossible). Hopefully it won't disappoint. I have a not so good track record with Seiko's (accuracy wise).

One difference between getting one or the other is that the MM300 is best for those who specifically like its own personality that it has apart from the original 6159. The "MM200" is more for fans of the 6159 who can't or won't pay for that ungodly priced limited edition re-issue. Rob what are your thoughts on the 300m Tuna's vs the 1000m Tuna's?

Get the 300m Tuna. It's cheaper, wears better, is thinner, is easier to service, and gives you all the functionality you will ever need. Only downside is the hardlex on the 300m which is questionably a downside as most people prefer the curved hardlex to the flat sapphire on the 1000m.
@matttheoneonly66175 жыл бұрын
@@onemoretime8045 yeah I'm leaning towards it I think. Seiko Canada just informed me a battery replacement on the 1000m will cost about $250 CAD which is way more than I expected

@@matttheoneonly6617 That's a tough decision. If you have wrists that are larger than 7 inches, then the 1000m tuna would be a good fit. In that situation, I'd go for the 1000m as it has the sapphire crystal and ceramics. If you get it for the same price as a 300m tuna, you can always sell it for at least the same price, if not some profit, and get a 300m tuna down the road.

I'd take the MM300, especially the older SBDX017 model. The MM300 will be worth more down the road while the MM200 will only depreciate. If you don't like the MM300, sell it and get your money back, you won't be so lucky if you don't like the MM200. Only exception to this I see being is for those with wrists smaller than 7 inches as the size of the MM300 may be a tad too much. I will also say that the deviation in time dial up mentioned by Rob in this video is nowhere near representative of how these watches run. Expect an 8l35 to run near +8 seconds on average and a 6r15 to be closer to +15 with a lot more positional variance.

I'd like to add, though, when service time comes, the MM300 needs to go back to the factory, where, with the "MM200", it would actually be much more cost effective, faster and more convenient to just buy a regulated NH35 movement and get your local watchmaker to pop it in, all for $150 or under.

I had the sbdc053 black previous version to the "mm200" lovely watch and i bought it instead of the sbdc063 at the time. Had it for nearly a year and loved it but in the back of my mind was the mm300 and has been for a couple of years but just couldn't bring myself to spend that on (a seiko!) Or so I thought!!! I now have the sla021, as soon as I saw this new version released and in black not green I something just clicked, yes it was a risk for me as no AD for this watch so it was boughh online but It came and just wow!!! A grail watch for sure that has written off many of the other so called luxury brands of choice in my mind. Tried a black bay, had a seamaster (one before latest) and believe me the seiko is in my humble opinion better, and although I love seiko I'm not a fan boy i just like what i like. So it was a big risk, but It paid off. Just awesome and pics/videos just dont do justice at all even side by side to another mid/high seiko like above. The mm200 is more stylish in my opinion, the case is better refined and finished for sure, and more complex in the lines...bezel insert scratch easier than steinhart.. Bezel action very good on both, lume very good on both( seiko still a little bit brighter even after hours) . The movement in the seiko is a rugged one and does it's job, but it is inferior in my opinion to the eta 2892 in the steinhart... Anyway I love them both...

The MM200 has a slightly longer case, lug-to-lug, but it works for me. Imtiaz I sold the sbdc because I had a Pelagos and didn’t need both, then for a little while I had the Pelagos and the mm300 and ended up selling the Pelagos. Then I sold the mm300 to get another black bay lol.
