I have two of these, a GMT and the baby blue regular one. They are an amazing value for the money and are amongst my favorites, and the movements are basically COSC-level accurate. One issue I think they need to work on is quality control, which I am sure they will figure out, but these are small batch watches and they come with a little "character". For example, on my GMT, the bezel is ever so slightly mis-aligned. You won't notice it at a glance, but it does become apparent when you try to match up the GMT arrow to the hour number. Also, there is a crimp or smudge on the second hand that is only apparent with certain kinds of light. On my baby blue one, the face is perfect, but the engraving on the back around the movement window is very clearly misaligned. Some work to be done, but still totally worth it.

Yeah, I've heard not all are perfect. It is unfortunate I know Joedy from @justomemorewatch got a gmt with alignment issues I got lucky, and mine is perfect Thanks for your comment!!! 🍺🍺🍺

Nice review. I picked up one of these about a year and a half ago. Checks off a lot of boxes. Dial is the belle of the ball. Really eye-catching. Mine is a bit more accurate than yours so there is variation. Can definitely be adjusted but let your watch-maker do it. I have received a lot of nice comments on it. My biggest disappointment is the lack of a screw-down crown. Why would Seiko not put a screw-down crown on this piece. It’s more of a sport watch than a dress watch. if it had a screwdown crown, it would truly be my every day go to watch.

Brian! So happy to hear that yours turned out So good Believe it or not, the timekeeping on mine has gotten better 😆 I love this watch so much It's still one of my favorites You are right about the screw-down Crown That would have put this watch on another level Like an elegant alpinist/Ranger/explorer Cheers to you, my friend 🍺 thanks for taking the time to leave a comment 🙏🏼

I have a Mido Ocean Star GMT. A lot of bang for the buck. It came with a strap and bracelet. Shortly after I purchased it it had to be repaired. Timegrapher is showing great numbers. 0 sec/day in the dial up position with a beat error of 0.0 . Having said that, this Seiko really caught my eye. I’m going to my local Seiko dealer to check it out in person. You mentioned that the watch may be regulated for better timegrapher numbers. I too would be hesitant to do it on a watch like this, although I have done it on all my vintage and not so vintage Seiko divers. It’s not difficult to do if you have a scope and a lot of patients. I have been able to regulate my old 6309s and 7s26 divers to within a few seconds per day, dial up. My Seiko dealer has agreed to take my new watches back if the timegrapher results are not acceptable. So far they all have been ok. I think Seiko could do better with the beat error though. It just takes time. But time is money.

Hey Dood! So happy to hear you are enjoying your Mido (even after having to get it repaired) and that you might check out the Seiko They are both excellent watches and different enough to make it worth owning both if you can swing it I do agree with you that beat error could be better in Seiko's movements With that said, as long as you can reduce the max time-keeping difference between the slowest and fastest positions, increasing the beat error up to .8 .7 on the Seiko is not terrible Anyway, thanks for the comment. Let me know what you think about the Seiko if you do get to see it in person 🍺

I have not :( I felt more comfortable taking the Mido Ocean Star GMT to the pool last summer. I took it on a family vacation to Vegas, and the Mido did great at the pool 😅 You should be able to swim with it, but since you asked me if I had done so I figured I would be honest and tell you I choose not to swim with this Seiko 😅

I’ve looked at this watch on and off. The strange date, as you said is really hard to read and that is one thing that really stops me from purchasing it. Also, the lack of a screw-down crown while not a dealbreaker doesn’t help the functionality for me. All of my other watches are diver’s so the Presage would definitely be a dressier occasion watch. Great overview, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the watch!

I've given up on being able to read the date on this watch, but I do think the complication is pretty, even if not functional I do agree with you that the screw-down crown would have taken this watch to another level tho Thanks for the comment! Have a fantastic day!!!

@LosNTime
@LosNTime Жыл бұрын
So instead of giving you the same lazy answer based on time grapher measurements from a year ago I pulled out the watches and the time grapher and ran all new measurements As of today, I can tell you the Seiko 6r64 is incredibly more accurate Over six positions, the max time deviation is +10 seconds per day With an average of +4 seconds across all six positions With some regulation, this watch has the potential of running around +-1 spd due to its very low max spread across all positions The Mido on the time grapher is a bit of a mess, with beat errors running as high as 1 ms. The max deviation across all positions is as high as -14 Average performance was -6 seconds per day across six positions The thing with the mido powermatic is that positional difference is all over the place, and regulation, while not impossible, is much more risky and complicated, which means that the likely hood of improving performance through regulation is unlikely With that said, the mido runs excellent on the wrist But according to my time grapher, the seiko has a vastly superior movement Hope this helps

I have this watch, but if it’s an automatic, why do you have to wind it?
@LosNTime
@LosNTime 7 ай бұрын
You only have to wind it if you don't wear it for a few days If I wind it enough to get going (power reserve partially complete) and I wear it for a day, the power reserve will be full towards the end of the day So if you wear it, it should be winding itself If the watch is losing power as you are wearing it (look at the power indicator ), then there might be something wrong with yours

@@LosNTimeI bought it, it’s a lot darker than in the photos, the orange almost a washed out salmon colour. Other than that keeping great time- bracelet a bit tinny, either too loose or too tight In the uk it retails at £1365, as mentioned I paid £599. Doesn’t feel like a £1365 watch, I feel my Alpinist has better build quality but I’ll see how I get with it. If not I’ll sell it for what I paid. It’s one of my cheaper watches so I might be biased.
@LosNTime
@LosNTime 4 ай бұрын
Hey there! The orange might look a bit more salmon, especially the GMT hand. Unfortunately, I don't have mine on hand right now as I'm in the process of moving to Portland, Oregon. By the way, last October, I picked up an alpinist SPB121. I think the presage GMT SPB217 feels like a more luxurious offering than the SPB121. To me, it feels more expensive, but that's just my personal take on it. In my opinion, the movement of the GMT is also more exciting and refined than the alpinist movement; the fact that it is one of the few 4hz movements Seiko offers at this range doesn't hurt either :) Anyway, I hope you grow to love the watch, but if it doesn't end up vibing with you, selling it for something more exciting is the right move. You got it at such a low price that I'm sure you will be able to move it with little effort if you do decide that it's not for you. Keep me posted on your journey! I love mine, even though I don't get as much wrist time since I picked up my zenith. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
