Kata Bunkai - Applications of JUJI UKE (X-block/Cross block) - Part 4

Juji uke or cross block is one of the most poorly understood techniques which is frequent throughout many kata. In this video the fourth in the mini series we will look at the application of the juji uke as an actual block! (who knew!) and also an example of a very dangerous technique when you do juji uke from a kneeling position.

Thank you for this fantastic series! The last one is perfect! I don’t know why it took years for me to finally see it. This technique is highly misunderstood by the modern community. The connection to fighting against an assailant wielding a “katana” is right there before our eyes.

It is and great care should always be used when practising it. My teacher always says its not Brutal just efficient ;) glad you liked it though.

Since you are covering some of the obscure and less used techniques, could you go over the applications of the double punch in naihanchi/tekki shodan? I'm not sure what the technical name for that should be; morote tsuki, mawashi tetsui uchi kagi tsuki? Either way, I think it would be cool to see your interpretation of this.

Are you referring to the movement right at the end of Nihanchi Shodan? (I know it appears else where in the kata but I figured simplest reference point) I think the Japanese of this movement varies a lot from school to school both the names you suggested are appropriate. And I can definately add it to the schedule.

I see heian godan and gankaku here

As do I brownqs, as do I. Chinto (Gankaku) is the kata I personally associate this version of this application with, and Godan is usually teach a variation of this technique which is marginally less brutal but the two applications are most definately viable.
