I loved Berserk and Vinland Saga! I haven't caught up with the manga on either though. I've gotten farther into Vinland Saga than the anime has gotten to and I've gotten about 125 chapters into Berserk. Both are excellent and I want to keep reading. I didn't read the manga for Monster, but I did watch the anime and it is one of my top anime shows. That story and the characters sucked me in and I didn't want to stop watching. The world building is so good and I love how even the smaller characters are well written and get brought back sometimes. I also like how there are sections where the main character is not there and you get to see other characters shine for a while, but when Tenma shows up, it's so exciting to see him again. I definitely want to catch up with Vinland Saga and Berserk, but I also want to get into other seinen series, like Vagabond. I also love shonen too. It's most of what I was into for a while. Both shonen and seinen are great in their own way. I will continue to read and watch both.
@kathycoleman46487 ай бұрын
Precisely right, making sure to clarify that it has a demographic intent rather than a genre intent. So many people think, for instance, that shonen means that a show is about fighting when it basically means teen boy. Where as seinen means young man, shojo means teen girl and josei means young woman. Any of these can have any genre under the sun in them, hypothetically. What distinguishes them is how each will handle the genre in question. Seinen is likely the most popular because it can tell the most honest and universal stories. It's not held back by the restraints of catering to a younger audience that shonen or shojo must respect. And things targeted at men will always be more popular because men's world is external whereas women's world tends to be interneal in a storytelling sense. Women go out, men generally don't come in. (Again, MASSIVE generalization there. I'm a woman and I can find shonen / seinen easier to disgest than I find shojo / josei if I'm in the wrong mood.) There is also the end result of the above meaning that more shonen and seinen tend to get produced, which could be--in part--another aspect of its wider popularity. This adds nor subtracts anything from what is 'good'. But it can impact what is 'seen'. That has nothing to do with average anime fans, though.

I'm glad that you mentioned we shouldn't compare seinen and shounen. No matter how much I love berserk, I didn't recommend it to my little brother because it can break young naive hearts. People who didn't see how cruel this world can be will never be able to appreciate the beauty behind the dark and twisted story like of berserk or dark souls. But in the other hand, that energetic and fancy portrayal of life and the world is the beauty of Shonen. I love One Piece so much for its world building in nearly the same way I love berserk for its characters.

Personally, I kinda hate the notion that seinen are considered the more “mature” demographic cuz whenever I hear someone say it, it’s always spoken like you can’t find that in shounen. Case and point, Frieren (for recency’s sake) is a shounen, the ancient magus bride is a shounen. Seinen, vice versa can can be just as “childish” as shounen depending on the story. Zom100 is a seinen, Bocchi is a seinen.

Berserk for me I do enjoy a lot but it just the story just goes up and down in quality for me. There's some arcs that I'm like oh my God this is truly amazing piece of work then it just in quality for me personally and this is just my personal feelings it's just like they're not bad it's just I didn't really care for them. Like conviction I enjoyed of conviction but overall I'm like I understand that they were necessary but I'm just like it's not bad but it's like it could have been a lot better

My problem with Vagabond is that the battles are very one dimensional and almost all the secondary/support character are...bland to say the least. I like Berserk and Vinland Saga, but I think I like Vinland Saga better. Berserk is just too dark for me. I just get more and more depressed as it goes on. Meanwhile, with Vinland Saga, I am still curious about where the story will go next, without being depressed or anxious. Vinland Saga also appeals to me because of the whole "true warrior" thing. The fact that the true warriors are the kindest with the most regard for life and regret for their past actions, and a real drive to better themselves and become more than their sins is what motivates me as well. I don't think such a thing exists in Berserk. I think Berserk is more mature than Vinland and thus also just too much for me, at times. I still want to read the full manga (I have read some of it, and seen the entirety of the 1997 anime. I've also spoiled myself with KZbin videos about what happens next in the story because I didn't know if I wanted to read such a long manga. Reading manga is sort of difficult. You want to progress fast but then you miss the beauty of the panels and sometimes even details.) Berserk has some insane sexual violence as well, which I am not a fan of at all. Anyway, before anyone comes after me, I'd like to say that this is my personal opinion. I'm not saying that Vinland is better than Berserk definitively. I'm just saying that I like it better. It's more hopeful, and surprisingly, although it's more realistic than the fantasy world of Berserk, I find it to be more of an escape from reality for me than Berserk (it's surprising because fantasy is supposed to be an escape from reality, but when the fantastical elements are used to highlight the worst parts of reality, you start to get a really bleak feeling) Anyway, if you've read so far, I'd like to think that you at least understood my ramblings, and I hope they were coherent. Also thank you for reading my opinion till the end.
