So few fans grasp the reason Larry David is voicing the provoked inmate in this scene. When he tells Jerry he's in prison for grand theft auto it's because he's the thief who stole Jerry's car way back in episode 28 and answered the car phone when Jerry dialed it from his apartment. Larry David was the off-camera voice of that car thief and now he and Jerry are doing prison time together. Just a brilliant way of bringing things full circle in the Seinfeld universe.

I love what this guy said and totally agree: "I know Larry David will never read this, but he needs to know there are many people out there (myself included) who herald the Seinfeld finale as one of the greatest of sitcom history, mainly because of the clever courtroom setting, which allowed for a reunion of our favorite characters in a situation that fit the theme of the show. Seinfeld was 'the show about nothing'. The main characters were like us: generally well meaning but inherently selfish; and, like life, we often reap the consequences of our actions. In the case of Seinfeld, there were so many hilarious (borderline illegal) plot lines that the characters escaped unpunished. It makes sense to give them their day in court. So kudos Larry David, for making a sitcom that both made us laugh and think of life in every day situations ... and then doing it even BETTER with curb your enthusiasm." And also knowing Larry David, he hates the traditional grand expected-payoff finales as evidently already clear

I was a child not born of the Seinfeld generation and thus didn't have the privilege to watch it firsthand with the excitement that surrounded everybody but it was undoubtedly one of the greatest shows out there. I watched the entire thing, everyday with one episode playing each day and finished to the shows finale and I must say, once I got the "Show About Nothing." I understood that it was without question my second greatest finale ever(first being from FRIENDS). It was a show about nothing which to me meant that you could start anywhere and end up loving it. There were very few story lines where you needed any reference to previous episodes. To get "We were on a break", you needed to understand the breakup but to get "Kramer's iconic entry", you didn't need anything else. Seinfeld as I said before was the "Show About Nothing". It had no lessons in it. No morals in an episode. Just loads of fun. But in the end it ended up giving the biggest lesson of them all-"If you live selfishly like these guys, there will be consequences." How ironic. And it had so many ironic elements in it-1."Larry David as the inmate who voiced a car burglar in the previous episodes telling Jerry he'll cut Seinfeld(off NBC)" 2. "So many iconic characters came back with a flood of memories." 3."You realise the kind of jerks the characters were." 4. "Finishing the show with the button scene from the first episode" 5." The show about nothing got convicted for doing nothing." P.S: I find FRIENDS ending only slightly better because I watched it after the fifth season itself(due to curiosity) and ended up crying for the way that it ended. After watching everything, I cried an ocean. I insist that its not a competition. Nonetheless, Seinfeld had a great ending. So perfect.

I liked the ending. It seems like something David would do on another show like Curb but he actually did it on a 90's sitcom. Besides that it wasn't supposed to be sad just showing that the gang are the ultimate neurotics and their lack of self and situational awareness even in a prison. Jerry keeping on with pretty much the exact routine he's always used even in a prison is brilliant as well as Kramer and George's reactions to it (and David telling Seinfeld he sucks in response to him warning not to steal his jokes). The fact that Elaine isn't even in the fucking final scene because she wouldn't be in a men's prison is the definition of the show's humor. And it was funny.

I have most of seinfeld on DVD and I always skip Jerry's little stand up routines, but I think this very final scene is the best of any of that stand up stuff. A lot of people don't like the last seinfeld episode. I think as time moves on it will be proven to be one of the best final episodes of any series. Most final episodes aren't ones that people want to watch over and over again. Last episodes tend to not really feel the same as the actual show. Actors tend to jump out of character a bit. There's always some hokey reason the characters are moving on. And of course the makers of the show feel they have to include some of the best moments of the show in the finale. I think the last episode of seinfeld did a good job of combining a new story for these characters that was plausible, still funny, and also show plenty of highlights.
