Seinfeld was broadcast in 4:3 aspect ratio, in that format you wouldn't be able to see Elaine laughing. When 16:9 format because the standard, the shows were reformatted to that format. Because of this, the frame now shows more of the action on the left and right side of the screen. Thus, you're able to see certain things that the creators of the show didn't think would ever be seen. You can spot quite a few boom microphones and stand-ins for the regular cast members in a lot of older shows that are now available in 16:9.

George was a coward for not acknowledging that her nose bothered him and was a coward for not breaking up with her. Kramer told like it was and improved her self-esteem. All three of them were very nasty to the girl, sugarcoating something that bothered them more than herself.
